Therefore, Richard Straker goes straight into the clock after a holding slide mentioning next week's late film. Closedown weather summaries on Friday nights began in late 1984 when BBC1 drop...

Promotion for Parkinson at the Pantomime into Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Probably one of the most sinister Christmas idents ever of a double-faced Santa Claus head. BBC1 almost didn't have a Christmas this year due to industrial action. This particular ident could be seen being assembled during news reports about the strike. The Stage criticised the choice, claiming it looked like the severed he...

This was really the full start of the day's programmes on BBC 1. They did come on air at 6.40am for 75 minutes of Open University, and then closed down until lunchtime as this was the Easter holidays and no schools programmes. This was typical BBC 1, offering no daytime programming in mid morning, leaving it to ITV who on this morning were on air from 9.30am with a mix of entertainment and educational morning programmes leading up to their lunchtime news.
