Fall Drive In The North Carolina Smokey Mountains
This is a drive we took in the Fall of 2023 up the Black Mountains near Boone North Carolina. It was getting very close to Halloween and we wanted to be there at peak leaf color turning time, and we hit it perfectly on the head in 2023. If you’re wanting to do something similar, near the Black Mountains, I strongly advise you to look at that last week and a half of October.

Can you give us some tips on how you trained her to do that?
So, the first step is, she had to know how to fetch and bring the ball back and give it to me and the last part of that one’s tough because she never wants to give it to me, but she brings it back so after we establish that she could just bring it back and drop it near the machine and then she would see me pick it up and put it into the top of the machine. I started tapping on the floor closer and closer to the machine and until she started dropping it, you know Closer and closer to the machine and then I started putting it on top of the machine and she would kind of run her nose in and knock it in because she figured out it had to go in for it to throw it so she would help that process along. We got stuck there for a while, maybe two or three more sessions of 15 over the course of a couple weeks. But finally one day she brought it up, put it on top of the machine and dropped it in and of course she got rewarded very big for that.. we haven’t played the machine in a while, but I took her upstairs about a month ago and she picked up right where she left off. I would say, though she would be an expert now should I have kept making those little incremental changes in her behavior regarding dropping it in the machine much more frequently.
Sorry, I’m using voice dictation so punctuation might be really messed up in the above.
I just watched the video again and the other trick that was key was if she brought me the ball and wanted me to throw it, I would push it back to her so she knew she had to act on the ball instead of waiting for me to act on the ball and I think that was one of the most important Changes I made as she got further along in her training is given her the ball back so she hast to pick it up and at that point she can choose well if I keep giving it to him, he’s just gonna push it back to me, but if I put it in the machine, I get to go fetch it.
I use 5000k I have 24 inch LED strip lights hooked up to a zigbee Smart plug 2700 k is kind of dingy light I live in Hawaii where there's no winter
Yes, lighting Color preferences are definitely something that’s personal. Everybody has the color they like. I’m 56 years old and grew up in a house with only incandescent lights that produce a warmer lighting and I like that, it makes me feel, happy and safe and warm. When the bright lights came out, you know the 5000 Kelvin lights, the light from them almost makes me feel a bit sick. Like I’m in an office setting. So that’s the way I look at it for me I prefer a warmer light. A lot of other people prefer the bright light or sunlight. Sounds like you have a pretty good set up, similar to mine but different brands. It works very well with my Alexa and every now and then I might have to delete the routine and re-add it into Alexa, but 99% of the time it’s great. Thanks for the feedback.
Looks good!!
To help you clean the grill, buy a non-stick grill sponge. They sell ones just for the George Foreman grill with a hard and soft double-sided surface. Or when using the grill, you can wrap what you cook in parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Great idea :)
You just let the oil drip all over your counter like that? You couldn’t even be bothered to put a plate under it or a piece of aluminum foil paper and make your own drip tray? Lol. But yeah you can pic this grills up from good will but it’s better to go buy a brand new one from Walmart or Amazon. They are like around $20 bucks and they come with removable plates. The model that you have is a pain in the ass to clean
I noticed I forgot to put the little tray under it when I was editing it. Thanks for the tip!

I think the 9800 is too heavy
That’s true. It’s fairly beefy!
It’s not to make room for more people. The ocean is swallowing up the already narrow outer banks.
It’s actually multi faceted; erosion control, storm damage reduction, recreational use, economic benefits, habitat preservation, and property protection. So, you and Priscilla are both correct. Unfortunately, the OBX stopped expanding as quickly on its own, including the famous dunes at Jocky’s Ridge, when modern human development disrupted the flow of wind and sand across the barrier islands. Additionally, the shape of the Outer Banks is continually evolving, but just not as quickly as it used to be.
I'll probably do this but make them slightly bigger just so I won't have to adjust them for a long time

Plus points for trying!
How come you don't use blue tape and mark on that. Why those loud bagpipes?
It was an early video. Sorry if the bagpipes bothered you. I’m a Gibson :). Blue tape is an option but not needed if you write lightly.
@@thehometipsshow I am sorry, but what is a Gibson?
The surname "Gibson" is of Scottish and English origin. It is a patronymic surname, meaning it is derived from the given name of an ancestor. Specifically, it means "son of Gib," with "Gib" being a common medieval nickname for Gilbert. The name Gilbert itself comes from the Germanic name "Gisilbert," which means "bright pledge." Surnames like Gibson often emerged in the Middle Ages as a way to identify individuals by their parentage.
@@thehometipsshow I am from Holland, we love the pipes and love to see Scotsmen blowing them. But it was too loud and could not turn it down without turning your voice down.

Can you say food delivery?
That is basically deionized water at 1or 2 and you should not be drinking that. You must be thirsty all the time. There are literally no minerals in that water.
We typically add back the minerals we lose by either using Aquasana packets or better yet, Mineral Pro replacement filters. When you look at the totality of the water, you drink in the food you buy, and when going out to restaurants to eat, I’m not 100% sure that mineral replacement is even necessary. However, when we give water to our dogs, we make sure that we do not give them the reverse osmosis filtered water.
Drinking water with a tds under 100 will actually dehydrate you.
Not if you add minerals back in. We use tablets we toss in our drinking water. For cooking we just use regular tapwater.
@@thehometipsshow if you put minerals back in it won’t be under 100. You are removing everything good in water and replacing it with man made products. Just drink your tap water and save money. It’s amazing to me that these companies sell you all this equipment to make water bad for you.
Thanks for your comments. Our water comes from Falls Lake, which is runoff from every parking lot in the Piedmont of North Carolina. I’d rather take my chances with a few mineral tablets, than from drinking from that cesspool. Plus it taste bad. I try not to make generalizations about peoples own water supply because everybody lives in a little bit different place…
Sounds as aggressive as my tinnitus can get
That’s hilarious. I have tinnitus too, and I don’t hear it when I’m in the woods. It’s a miracle.
Maybe your fridge filter was not a good brand. You have to test 5 or more brands of fridge filters.
Thank you for the suggestion, but a refrigerator filter is nothing but a carbon filter. It’s a single stage and it can make the water taste a bit better but it is absolutely not gonna remove the dissolved solids in the water. I’m not planning on testing fridge filters at this time because 5 stage reverse osmosis Systems, like we have installed under our sink and costs a few hundred dollars, is far superior. If you are only worried about taste then a fridge filter is probably good enough for you. If you’re worried about dissolved solids, like pharmaceuticals and high levels of minerals, etc., then you need to go with a reverse osmosis system.

Hello. Great video. What color paint did you use? Thanks!
I am having the same problem. It could be the tension of the push terminal spring cracking the inadequate plastic. Wrong material or too thin?? I have these in three buildings.
I was originally thinking that it was heat induced plastic degradation overtime because it has only happened in my exterior walls. However, one viewer stated that it’s also happened in their interior walls so now I’m starting to question my hypothesis. The plastic, however, does seem to get brittle when I rub it and I can feel it falling apart in the areas that crack so I’m not sure. Thank you for your comments and hopefully somebody can get to the bottom of this soon. PS sent me a whole box of replacement switches which I’ve swapped in as needed, but I don’t have a lot of confidence that they’re going to last..
@@thehometipsshow All interior walls for me. Maybe the material is just too thin. Not using the push terminals might help. Pushing the wire in increases the tension on the case.
Good point in not using the push terminals. Maybe somebody can comment that had installed them by not using the push terminals?
@@thehometipsshow I would add that these switches were lightly loaded. Both less than 25W, so heat would not be an issue.
Thank you
Have the same fan. Can not figure out how to change bulb?
Hi. It’s been a while since I installed it for a friend. Let me reach out to her to see how she changes the bulb.
At the start it definitely seemed like pain whines, but near the end there, after going for your hand, she seemed to be getting angry because she wanted to play despite the pain. Hence, wallering and biting the couch lol. Seems like a sweetie. Goodluck!
I can see that. But knowing her, it was incredibly uncharacteristic of her to cry like that at the end of the video. When she wants to play, she gives me this “errrr” sound. from my interpretation, this was pain. Obviously we can’t read a dog’s mind, but I know her very well. Thank you so much for commenting. It’s so hard to watch them suffer.
It’s incredibly hard to watch anyone or any pet suffer. We made it to the vet about an hour after this video was shot. They put her on IV Opioids to get the pain under control. She’s been better ever since. We are five days after that appointment and no pain yet but she’s on very restricted movement. I have a playpen set up for babies that I put her in so she can’t run or jump on things, but it’s really hard to restrict her movement because she loves to play.
She’s currently on muscle relaxers and gabapentin-both prescriptions that are aiding her until her upcoming appointment with NC State neurology. Sadly, that appointment isn’t scheduled until June. In the meantime, I have meloxicam on hand to administer should her pain intensify. Thankfully, she’s been resting comfortably for the past two days.
Thank you! This was a great idea! I still put the batteries in a flash light upside down :)
I completely understand! :)
Thanks just ordered 1
Just keep practicing with your puppy eventually they’ll get it
Not bad. You may have hit a stud, but it is not supporting that wall. See deflection @ 14:29. May hold with long enough screws, and typically most are not putting pressure on wall that high.
Mike, thank you for pointing that out; it highlights an important safety consideration. If you have a flimsy tub surround, you might not want to install a ADA compliant grab bar in the shower, direct to the surround. You may need to install the bar outside the shower, either above or completely outside the surround, over the drywall (making sure to hit a stud) to ensure stability. A flimsy surround might flex and create an unstable installation, which can be dangerous. For those facing this issue, consider the following options: 1. Reinforce the Surround: If you have access to the backside of the surround wall, you can add plywood, 2X4's, or another sturdy material behind the tub surround to provide additional support. 2. DO NOT USE ANCHORS! While these can offer extra stability if you can't find a stud, they do not provide a safe solution. Again, do not use drywall anchors! 3. Consult a Professional: If you're unsure about the installation, it's always a good idea to get professional advice. In my case, our tub surround, thank fully, is of good quality and utilizes reinforced fiberglass, so we're okay to install the ADA bar directly to the surround as long as we hit a stud underneath. This ensures a secure and safe installation. While I am a Residential General Contractor who has built many houses over the years, I did not build this house. Instead, because we were able to negotiation such a great deal on it, we purchased it from the orginal owners in 2019 (it was built in 2008). The original owners were wise and used quality material wherever they could, which contributed to our decision to buy it.
next test label the cups with numbers as to not give away what's in them. Good vid though. Might have to grab an RO system.
Good suggestion. Thanks!
I have had several of these switches fail where a corner of the plastic cracks and falls off. Same with a few duplex outlets. Every switch and receptacle were installed when our house was built in 2006. All had AWG 14 wire pushed into the back of the plastic housing. I am in the process of replacing every switch and receptacle in my house. I strip the wire and form a hook, place it over th4e screw and tighten the screw. I don't trust the quick connect push in system.
They have zero quality control! I’m so disappointed in them.
I'm not sure how they maintain UL listing. The only way to make these last is to only use the screws for the wiring. That means adding a few pigtail wires where the builder had two wires pushed into the back and a third wire on a screw. @@thehometipsshow
Sterilized the bottle with warm water. I didn't know that was a sterilization technique

help . my dog won’t do it 😞
Keep trying. Be patient. Good luck!
I have replaced probably 75 or more of them for the same reason, just crack and fall apart, but I replaced them on interior walls also
Unreal! Thank you for sharing this fact. I wonder if there have been any home fires because of these switches yet?
When the politicians kill the fossil energy and there's a power outage in the middle of Winter. Good luck with that.
I guess we all need wood burners?
So in an outage do you slide the battery pack back in where it was and put the cover back on and just let it run like normal? Only asking because it seems like the battery pack would be getting a lot of heat sitting in there while the fireplace is on high all night to heat the house in a cold winter power outage situation.
I just want to be sure I am safe if I let it run on high all night if i had to. I wasn't sure if i should leave the battery pack hanging out with the cover off to minimize heat exposure or if it is ok to put it all back. Thanks so much!
Honestly, I just leave batteries in it year round and replace them once per year with daylight savings time ending in the fall when I replace my smoke detector batteries. I’m glad I do that because recently we had a power outage and my fireplace worked perfectly, providing heat to my family.
They say to remove the batteries because they will absolutely heat and swoll up and leak , just have some on stand by for emergency situations
To ensure the safety of batteries placed under your direct vent gas fireplace, it’s advisable to conduct a temperature test using a thermometer. Direct vent gas fireplaces are typically insulated, which helps in preventing excessive heat that could damage batteries. Most standard household batteries are capable of withstanding temperatures up to 140°F without any issues. While you could remove the batteries when not in use, in my experience with the homes I’ve built and in my own residence, I’ve found it unnecessary to do so, as the insulation generally provides adequate protection.
My labs/shepherd stands right in front of theirs trying to get the ball as soon as it launches lol If I could get them to drop it just once by themselves, maybe it will click in their lab brains lol
Nara will sometimes do the exact same thing. She’s been pinged by a couple balls a few times which makes me nervous because she’s blind in one eye already. I just tried to push her away if I think she’s too close.
...So this video turned out nearly useless lol
