long held professional view that patients with iv cannula who abscond with it insitu and are drug users could use it to administer drugs. What rubbish. If they want to inject drugs they will already know how to do it and would do it without a cannula anyway

This channel is the reason I can confidently cannulate patients. I was a newly qualified nurse 3 yeara ago and whenever I tried to cannulate, I failed. Confidence dropped, and I became afraid of trying. I came across this channel, and I saw the playlist that shows you how to find the perfect vein and step by step on how to cannulate. Thank you for the time you took to make the videos. Im not an expert, but so far, my skills have improved immensely.

Level of the sternal angle may be fine for temporary needs during surgery, but should be deeper if needed for a longer duration (venoatrial junction - generally within 2 vertebral bodies of the carina on chest xray). If kept higher up for a longer duration, the CVC will more likely cause venous occlusion, DVT, fibrin sheath, venous stenosis, blood drawing issues, and catheter malfunction. *from IR perspective

Nice, thank you! Two things: a) you not just "dab" a bit with the gauze after the skin incision, but you keep a gauze pad with some light pressure there all the time until you have inserted the catheter - especially after you used the dilator, since then it can really start to bleed (it´s about a 3 mm diam hole then....) and b) after you have put the catheter over the wire and you can grip the free end of the wire with your fingers you hold this tip and keep a steady distance to the skin - whilst advancing only the catheter over the wire (otherwise you advance wire and catheter, which can trigger arrhythmia by touching the atrial wall with the wire).

What i could have done differently is to drawback a little bit since the bung was not prefilled with saline, I do not want even a tinny bubble of air going to my patient’s vein

This is what traumatized me having low pain tolerance. First insertion had a flashback, so transferred to another vein, flashback again. I was already complaining, so the nurse called for a more experienced one. Finally, done correctly. 🙄

i personally experience that kind of exertion ,IV cannula when I'm stay on the hospital in month because of heart problem ,that time i remember the nurse that she insert a IV cannula she failed that needle 😥 that why she do a second IV cannula 😥😥

Had a student poke around in my wrist for ages, she started to become really nervous. Her senior eventually came over with a ultrasound machine to insert. I smiled at her and told her not to worry about it and thanked her and said it'll get easier.
