Are you using square paper?
I always lay the book down on the unrolled gift wrap diagonally so the top edge of the book is pointing to a corner of the gift wrap. The distance between the two top corners of the book should be at least 1-2 thickness of the book away (in my video about an inch) from the two edges of the gift wrap. The same goes for the bottom of the book. Once I've determined I have enough gift wrap, I cut from the roll. I hope that makes sense!
