Finding Fossils - Soil of Unknown Origin
Without high expectations, I went to a place where they were building a road in order to investigate whether the excavations could bring fossils to light. In the middle of mounds of earth, I was surprised by the quantity of fossils and by some specimens that will certainly be part of the collection...
I was also lucky enough to meet a friend who introduced me to the provenance of the soils and even gave me directions to find even more fossils...

Finding Fossils - Bedrock of Fossils

It's been a while since I visited this place... and today was the day. I had previously seen on Google Earth that there was a small piece of land next to an industrial unit that had been moved... and with that idea in mind, I went there to test my luck. I already knew that there were fossils nearby, but every time I go there, that area continues to surprise me with the coolest fossils in my col...

Finding Fossils - Near an extinct Volcano

I got up quite early and decided this time to visit the ancient volcanic complex, now extinct, here in the Lisbon area. I'm very happy that you liked my viedos! Thank you very much! In the Peniche and Lourinha area, I know very little, but I know that in Lourinha you need to pay some attention because there are areas that can be protected... However, I suggest looking on the slopes of the roads or in places where there have been recent excavations or where there are exposed rock. If you find one fossil... there are possibly more nearby.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Sometimes I do things too quickly and don't pay attention and pull the fossil instead of digging around carefully. Sometimes, a moment of distraction ruins everything... and often thinks the same thing: some earthmoving workers dont care about fossils or some archeological findings while working...How many things will be lost forever? Whenever there is a construction site or some earthworks, I have to investigate to see if there is in fact nothing there and often there is always something that no one notices. Thank you very much for your suggestions and your advices are very valuable to me thank you very much! ☺️👍

The big oister is indeed a Crassostrea gryphoides and they are known from the Miocene of Cascais near Lisboa. And because you told that the dirtpiles came from the Lisbon area, it is more than plausible the Echinoid could be Brissopsis crescentica or Brissopsis ottnangensis. But you should have to clean it and compare, I will send you a paper on Neogene Echinoids of Portugal in your messenger.

@@zejurassico I also have that when I find anything that is incredible, but I recently started carrying bubble wrapping with me, incase I find anything rare, which ultimately saved some fossils from taking damage. Even if the bubble wrap didn't hold as long as expected, it did what I wanted it to. It protected it from the tools and the other fossils, so it managed to arrive home in one piece, which I will give a label as well since I know what it is, I just don't know the clear name of the species. I really enjoy watching videos like these, they are relaxing and always reminding me of how great fossils are!

It's really been a long time since my last adventure and I've only just managed to upload this new video now. I didn't give up, I just had less time to my usual fossil hunts, I still went out, but I didn't have the chance to make any videos... Making these CZcams videos takes a lot of time in terms of editing and figuring out how the adventure will be told, which is the part I like least, the part I like most is the discovery heheh! But yes, It's all fine with me. Thank you very much for asking about me and thank you very much for the strength and support you have given.

Or much better, What kind of field can I find fossils?

To have less work, the ideal is to look on the slopes of the mountains or in excavations where you can see the stratification of the rocks. It's always a good starting point, sometimes I even investigate the sides of roads when they cut the hill to make the road pass. But be careful with passing cars.

Glad I checked on your channel, I was on a collecting trip and was talking to another fellow collector and he mentioned your channel and I hadn't watched any of your videos recently and I thought I should check in on you. Killer gastropods!!

That was a fantastic coincidence because I haven't posted a video in a long time... but in this day, I was incredibly lucky because it seemed like the gastropods were coming out of the walls. Thank you very much for the support.

But What kind of rocks we must identify by find a lot fossils?

The best rocks to look for in fossils are sedimentary rocks, those in which we look and We can see layers as if they were layers of a cake, in theory only granitic and basaltic rocks are more difficult to have fossils in because they are of volcanic origin.
