    I would not worry about the nibs the extra fret width makes you r guitar extraordinary to play

  • @bldallas
    @bldallas Před 3 dny

    Amazing work. The whole fret nib concept is mind boggling to me. I get that Gibson installs the fret wire in the fingerboards BEFORE the boards are glued to the neck. And that the binding goes on after that. But I can’t imagine why the early 1950s Gibson designers chose to fabricate their necks in that order. Did they feel the fret nibs looked fancier than a bound neck with no nibs? Or were the nibs a byproduct of their fabrication sequence? Regardless, you’ve done an amazing job on this neck; really masterful stuff. Can’t wait to see your next installment. Keep up the great job.

    Man.. i´ve waited several days for this episode, since this is your first LP build I think you are doing a da*n good job, a little bit of tension on the trussrod when sanding the fretboard is a great thing, also the binding is spot on, well the whole build so far is spot on. But, there is a couple of things I want to point out, the trussrod should have been placed a little further back in the neck so you get something similar to what Gibson would have done, very little visible threads would be ideal, also I always make sure to over-radius the frets a little bit, you did not do that and I can see on the fretboard when the frets are installed that you didn't. But dont take my words to serious, you are doing a super great job and this will turn out great. I already have a wish that you build another Gibson Les Paul replica, maybe a Custom ? I know you can do it, thanks... :D

    • @vindustrialguitars
      @vindustrialguitars Před 3 dny

      Thanks Man! You’re right and I didn’t realize until about the point of this video that I installed the truss rod not quite deep enough. I did end up going and chopping off about three eights of an inch of the thread for aesthetics. You’ll see by the end of the series that the threads will be a little shorter. I didn’t show it or film it. But next time I will be more aware, these are the types of things that happen that you don’t realize unless you build a few of these it’s a learning process. I’m sure you went through the same thing I appreciate your comments. Any other suggestions would be welcome …cheers !

      @@vindustrialguitars Yeah it takes at least one build to be aware of what misstakes you've made and they will not be present on the neck build. We all make misstakes and most of them can be fixed. I am about to build a new neck for my 1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard Heritage, its been on a couple of world tours and are beaten up, the headstock have been broken and fixed several time, the last headstock-break was to much for the previous owner so he decided to sell the guitar to me. Can not find a time-correct headstock veneer though, the original is all messed up so maybe I will have to get a modern Gibson logo cut out, but its not right for the time 1989..

    It’s rare to see someone put so much time and effort into a guitar that you might be able to sell to a drunk man for $100. But these old Harmony/Stella/Silvertone guitars are great little blues boxes. The sound is surprisingly good because they used solid woods throughout. Nice job!!

    Holy shit.. this is a great video-series, I started buying things 1-2 years ago to build a replica of a Gibson Les Paul, all the correct things like trussrod and veneer and all that, even the proper trussrod access-cutter. I think I am all set to go, well, I need the wood first, but I have the maple top that I bought 2 years ago already carved, I clamped it up right away so it will not warp or anything like that so I just have to unclamp it and its good to use. After watching your video I am tempted to order the wood and get my build started, thanks :D

    That was not relief, that was backbow if the camera was shooting the truss rod adjust end of the neck Maybe I should elaborate; at this stage of the build, you should set the neck to be straight without string tension. Now, if you're going to use very heavy strings like 12's, you may want just a hair of backbow until the guitar is done and then adjust. I know that you wanted to be period correct with that rod. I probably would've put a bi-flex rod or maybe two strips of carbon fiber rod. Nobody is every going to see anyway. An expert would know the guitar was just built. If it's just for your own use, you could've dropped in a few carbon rods either side of the old style truss going up into the headstock for future drop protection. Nice build
