I am not an expert, but probably not screwed. You may just need to adjust it until it works as expected.

Hi! Thanks for the information!! Unfortunately I did exactly what you said NOT to do before I watched this, I took out that adjustment screw and the one inside...am I screwed here? Will I still be able to put it back in and use the jack?

Thank you for posting this detailed video! I am currently in the process of rebuilding my mid-1990’s floor jack, as the internal seals have gone bad over time. If it is of any help to anyone, I was able to remove the top cylinder cap using an air impact wrench with a 52mm socket without too much problem. It took a good 30 seconds or so, but then came right off.

Thanks for posting this. I'm trying to identify my jack cylinder in order to purchase the correct kit. My jack is a Motomaster (Canadian Tire's house brand) from the same era. The jack is almost identical to yours except the large wheels are wider, and the two side plates don't have the 90° bends along the top edge. The bottle jack itself is almost exactly the same as yours, with that same MVP marking on the casting, but the caps on the top side are much smaller. I'm guessing the seals in these areas will be different. I can't find ANYTHING online. Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone ever sees it. :)

I think I have owned that jack since the mid 90's. I don't remember how much it cost. I think it was a PepBoys special

Awesome video! I have two floor jacks that are in need of a rebuild and wasn't sure how to actually rebuild them. You explained it perfectly. I watched the entire video, thanks for putting a link in the video for the seal kit. I'll get a couple seal kits ordered and hopefully I can get that big nut loose.

Glad it was helpful to you. Like all projects the first time is a learning curve. If you have two I expect the second will go much faster than the first :-)
