I am happy for you 😊- If I can remember, I was maybe 13 when I got my relaxer, I am in my 40s now and my 9 yr old daughter wants me to look like her , to see my natural hair, it will be a first for both of us , I am about 3 months in 😊

After 17 years of relaxing, I had my last one in March 2022. Surprisingly I was able to retain length with relaxed hair (mainly genetics) I had a trim a couple months ago which took off most of the relaxed ends and saw new growth. My problems now are just being able to care for my hair independently without a salon and being patient with the cheaper DIY process. Tbh it’s very hard to find a salon in London that is affordable AND natural hair friendly, especially with my hair being so thick and dense. I’ve still got a long journey ahead but I’m kinda excited for more results😅 Thanks for this update, it’s been very reassuring!

Perhaps maybe you should of.not separated it when we separate the haur at times some hair becomes frizzy it also depends on what kind if hair or I seen videos when they separate the hair they put mouse on it so it won't look so frizzy but I'm glad you found something that satisfies you and looks well

I did my last relaxation on feb and now I made my decision to go natural but I am not that brave to do big chops 😅

Not all of the ones in Texas are huge, there is a tiny one, like a converted 7-11. My nearest one (Bastrop, TX) is pretty nice. When I drive out to Galveston for a cruise, I make sure to only stop at Buc-ee’s if at all possible, which it has been so far. One of my friends is originally from California, but she can’t go back because they don’t have Buc-ee’s. lol

I’m going back to natural due to my fitness lifestyle too. I’m training for a half marathon scheduled for November of this year and i don’t have time for my hair after running sessions or strength training days. i went relaxed in 2021 bc i wanted to rock a pixie. I’m not someone that will sacrifice my workouts bc of my hair, and it was started to get that way for me recently. Plus my hairdresser is bicoastal now so i can’t see her as much for retouches. I always told myself that if I’m relaxed that means I’m wearing a pixie cut. I hate taking care of my hair when it’s long and relaxed. I prefer to be natural if I’m going have hair longer than a short cut. I’d rather transition this time th vs when i shaved my head the first time I went natural. I’m going to just get braids and clip ins when it’s a decent length until im comfortable cutting the relaxer off. Great video, thanks for the insight.

Transitioning is harder for some than others due to the difference in textures. I don't diminish others' hair struggles. I used to only relax 3-4 times a year. I grew mine out with no chopping. I hid the 2 textures by doing bantu knots on wet hair and letting them dry. I would then take them down and wear it curly. I was completely natural around 2003 or 2004. Crochet is a great way to transition! I have never been a product junkie. I prepoo, wash, deep condition, blow dry on medium with heat protectant and put my hair in medium sized twists each week. I have no heat damage, splits, or breakage. I get my ends dusted every 3-4 months. I moisturize 3-4 times a week. Until we master something, it will prove challenging.

I am super scared about going natural. I’m in my fifties and have relaxed hair since first grade.. I’m now thinking of going natural, my hair is all the way down my back and very thick. I haven’t relaxed my hair for four months now and every day a dread combing it. But you inspired me so much that I’m going to keep going.

Transition was hard for originally, especially around monthe 4-6. The two different textures often had me either slicking hair back in a bun, or wearing braids. But told my mom the other day how most BW seem to be natural. She said, “Yeah we know those relaxers cause cancer”. Now there’s wigs and clip ins, which are game changers. Your crochet styles are cute as well. I just recommend women buy sulfate free shampoo, and find the most natural styling products they can without PEGs or PVP. But ultimately you have to find products your “hair likes”. Also the brush you showed…man…that’s the only brush that detangles my hair, but your hair got to be wet.

Same here !! I started transitioning last November, I still am, having the urge to just cut the relaxed ends and just embrace my curls, but I may hold on to until summer is over. I was natural for 6 years and went back relaxed for a short pixie cut 3 years ago, so I am making my way back again. Lifestyle change has moved me too! I am on a fitness/weight loss journey.

Some of the people saying how difficult transitioning to natural was for them probably transitioned a long time ago when information and, products specifically for our natural hair were severely limited. I transitioned in 98 and it was extremely difficult. There were no CZcams videos to guide us. We had to rely on the few books that were out and trial and error. Anyone transitioning to natural now, can take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that is available. Also, many of us during that timeframe just wore our natural hair out, so we had to deal with our own insecurities and insensitive, ignorant comments from family members and even strangers.
