We had a tips daily comp at school that year. My picks had provided no winners up to this day. I chose Willie as my selection. Went from nearly last, to winning it! My joint favourite racehorse(along with Bustino, Analogs Daughter & Yahoo). Happy days, the world don't seem as nice anymore. Progress?.....mmm not sure about that. Flash Bulb was a very decent 2 mile chaser who was trained by Bob Turnell and ridden by the stylish Johnny Haine.

I just loved L, escargot, and quite forgot that he made up such a lot of ground at the end of the race I always remember Ginger Mcain saying L, escargot never quite got the credit he deserved.I thought that was a nice comment to make

DB's crushing defeat here, IMO, made his legacy overlooked by some of those Americans and make some stereotype thoughts towards the then European horse racing, while in the past US horse racing did deeply influence the European counterpart before the beginning of this century, since many of those then European top flat horses were bred in America, including DB himself. Besides, I guess this race also became one of the reasons why Frankel didn't go to the US decades later. I heard some of those yanks thought this so-called invincible thing would be eventually blown out of water by their local hero, Wise Dan.

Tiger Roll won two really poor Nationals, this Horse was beating Top Cheltenham Horses with Top Weight, what he did after was just as incredible. To think that Lester Piggott won a seller on him at Aintree.

If memory seves Colin Kemball (Freddie Bee) was around 56 here. They pulled his licence and good thing too according to his son, who I spoke with 20 years later. RIP Roman Bar 15 year old
