    In terms of GDP per capita, Russia ranked 60th in the world in 2022, adjusted for purchasing power, roughly on a par with the poorest EU country, Bulgaria. A situation like at the end of the USSR. Suddenly all the bloated spending on the military-industrial complex collapsed.

      Ukraine ignores the situation on the ground in favour of using expensive and limited American-supplied strike weapons to hit targets (many of such weapons are shot down by interceptors, of course) which are utterly irrelevant to the fronts which are steadily collapsing? Isn't that simply a waste? Ukraine may be receiving US weaponry, but like all wars this will be won by both artillery and the blood of men on the ground. Don't you wince every time you hear that, "territorial defence brigades," are shoring up the frontline? These are raw, barely-trained cannon-fodder snatched from the streets and sacrificed to assist the escape of more useful units. It's as though you're applauding the strategic effect of the Dieppe raid (zero) while the battle of Stalingrad (Fall Blau) was in full swing on the Eastern Front, a key turning point in the war. Striking a few radars and some air defence assets near Sevastopol is part of what strategy? Opening Crimea for an amphibious assault? These may make good headlines but are of limited strategic importance. Russia can replace S300, S400, S500, Tor, Buk, Pantsir units and deploy decoys as well, if it attracts all the storm shadow and scalp missiles in existence (fewer than 1000 altogether before the war) they're then unavailable for performing the actual work of hitting useful strategic targets, unlike the JDAM-like FAB bombs being flung at Ukrainian targets identified by ISR beforehand, and used to support attacking forces in destroying infantry, armour and defensive obstacles. There seem to he two wars being fought here, the war for newspaper headlines and cash to pay Ukrainian civil servants and politicians, and the war on the ground where the Russians are now battle-hardened and have enough men and a war economy to support them, permitting attack through multiple vectors, diluting manpower available to defend each one. The Russians have no ambition other than to completely take the Russian-populated Eastern oblasts, and lack the overall manpower to secure the entire nation, the West of which is virtually a separate nation in itself and has more in common with Poland than it does with Russia. Thus far, I wonder what proportion of the Ukrainian population would like to wind the clock back, have agreed to a neutrality settlement early on and gone on to live their lives enjoying virtually free Russian gas imports, as they had done for decades before. I see the conflict ending in a nation partitioned, possibly losing access to the Black Sea via Odessa, and turned into what Professor Mearsheimer as referred to as a, "Dysfunctional rump state." You won't see big arrow offensives, the threat of drones has all-but eliminated those, as machine-guns ended actual human wave attacks in WW1, but incremental gains with defences being laid behind them are all part of the Soviet, now Russian playbook, unlike Ukraine which spent months failing to prepare for a Russia now armed to the teeth and niw faces having to use valuable units as rear guard to screen withdrawals to hastily-constructed defence lines of inconsistent quality? The Russians can blow the rear guard units to bits, leaving them scattered and broken, knowing that their next opponents will be ill-suited territorial units. As to losses, the Russians bombed half a dozen Ujrainian aeroplanes on the ground and the mainstream media si ply ignored it. The Russians are hitting any airfield remotely capable of hosting the promised F-16 (already heavily obsolete). Why have yhe game-changers not changed tge game, Chris, why does Ukraine bleed while half its able bodied men (including Denys effing Davydov) fled to the EU, knowing the impossibility of being sent home. If you see otherwise, I'd ask your GP for an antipsychotic medication prescription because you're clearly deluded. Chris, I know you look every day at the Ukrainian ministry of Information telling us that Russia suffers thousands of casualties per day, but a perforated eardrum is a casualty, a broken toe is a casualty, they can make these numbers up as thry go along while saying nothing of their own losses. It is phenomenally difficult to assess enemy dead and wounded, particularly when you're on tge back foot, so they're guessing, and trying to make their guesses look like victory. Ask them about their own losses (far easier to estimate those simply from roll-calls) and guess what? Stony silence, hundreds of thousands 'missing' but not listed in official records. It's okay though, an ATACAMS might blow up an S-400 launcher and save the day! First casualty of war: truth. Never forget that.

      @@jamesgornall5731 goodness. Do you save such diatribes or pick them from a set collection? Most of this I’ll simply ignore. I will point out there are plenty of organizations who try to determine accurate casualty information and I’m well aware of the definitions. I’ll agree both sides are suffering heavy casualties but see no indications that Ukraine is suffering as badly as Russia. That new and inexperienced recruits are being sent to the front should be obvious to anyone who has ever served. It’s how war works. The difference appears to be how they are integrated into their units. Ukraine seems to have been forced to perform unit level training at the front before they can be used in combat. Of course they’d prefer to rotate off the line for that but they don’t have that luxury. You’ll probably deny it but by all appearances Russia simply dumps new recruits on the front line and if they survive they become the experienced troops. I wouldn’t say preventing Russia from being able to use Crimea for any military staging or to launch air strikes is useless. Russia is losing a number of aircraft that can’t be easily replaced.

    7:37 mark - This narrow pass of retreat you mentioned; couldn't the Russians afford to have drones flying 24/7 over the area to spot AFU vehicles? Also at night with infrared? If I were a Russian commander I would have drones flying constantly over that small area. If I were AFU I would "shelter in place" hoping the Russians come along soon with cigarettes, vodka and food so I could surrender and go to a nice "POW camp to play Hogan's Heroes" and wait out the SMO or "war" as NATO media likes to call it. If I could, I would fire everyone in the Red Cross for not visiting POW camps in Russia and Ukraine and reporting on prisoner physical, mental and emotional health. Too often people working at the Red Cross view infantry as "meat" for the "grinder" or "organ harvesting" or their children as "sex slaves". It's disgusting what I hear about the legal and medical communities of NATO. It may be exaggerated but it still disgusts me. If I had a million dollars I could bribe a person to tell the truth if I could escort them and their immediate family to safety. But I don't have a million dollars. Zelensky has it but he lies and buys his extended family mansions in Israel. *waves to Palestine*

    Russian Brigade Commanders are seeming to reward platoon/company breakthroughs with timely artillery/mortar support...and wear the truism that support is never enough.

    • @jamesgornall5731
      @jamesgornall5731 Před 8 hodinami

      Heavy artillery support has always been part of Soviet/Russian doctrine, they learned through bitter experience that artillery causes between 2/3 and 3/4 of all battlefield casualties, unlike video games, and that quantity has a quality all of its own. Being able to saturate an entire area does t only dislodge and kill/wound tge enemy, the psychological impact of all those fires hitting at once must be incredible, causing men to break and head into the open, dazed and confused, terrified. Without deep trenches and shelters those sorts of bombardment take theur toll, as the allies learned during the Ardennes offensive in Winter, 1944. Men hospitalised with shell-shock, bleeding from the ears, only foxholes for protection, and this when the German Army was already undergoing its death spiral. Precision munitions have their place and Russia is learning this lesson, and possesses such munitions, but a pre-assault saturation artillery barrage is terrifying fir even well-prepared defenders. In 1916 the Somme bombardment drove some Germans mad, and had an acute psychological effect on all who experienced it, thus despite standing in deep, concrete-reinfirced trenches the like of which the Allies had nothing to compare with. I can only imagine what an 25-year old Ukrainian territorial soldier pressed into service must think being on the receiving end of modernised Katyusha barrages, with FAB-1500 munitions and the dreaded TOS-1 & 2, if those are in firing range then they must be acutely aware that they are in for a devastating hit. God, it sends chills through me, I've had a single .50 cal machine gun fire close to me and it felt like the wrath of God. I pray this all ends soon.

    That city is called "Krasnogorovka" (pronounced Kraz no gor rov ka), not Krasnohorivka. I know, the Ukrainians told you to call it that on the maps; but, the fact is, its not called that by the people that live(or lived)there. Its Krasnogorovka. The Ukrainian government likes to dictate even this small sh*t - just don't listen to them when they are basically lying. They are afraid of Russian language names - well, that is their problem, they could have guaranteed Russian speakers equality in language and culture(like Canada did for Quebec) way back in 2014. Ukraine chose not to do that - so, now they have to fight the DPR & the Russian Federation. Its Ukraine's own fault.

    *There are no BMP-1s in the Russian Armed Forces* . The vehicles are either captured UA assets, operated by the semi-regular '1st Army Corps' of the former separatist Donetsk republic (now officially Russian Federation) - or they are UA operated and the footage is deliberately mislabeled - as virtually all news on the conflict that are addressing a Western audience is. Contrary to the Western narrative about 'annihilated Russian military units', Russia is capable of reactivating several fronts with minimal efforts, threatening operational communications where Kiev couldn't have dreamed of severing the land bridge along the Sea of Azov - all that without full mobilization of the Russian population. The territorial shifts are _nothing_ but _indirect indicators for UA manpower loss_ and the inability of Kiev to mobilize the necessary amount of reserves to stabilize the front - including successful counter-attacks that put a hold to Russian operational momentum. Since these reserves were never available to begin with - actual reservists with basic military training - from the initial 'Correlation of Forces' follows an eventual intervention by NATO member states. Either that - or US _unconditional surrender_ , signing over it's UN Security Council Seat to China - say as a proportional representation of it's population and productive forces... Considering how ideologically indoctrinated the American political elite is, further global escalation is to be expected.

    Ukraine to seek secure parking for F-16s abroad Kyiv expects first donated fighter jets will arrive later this year, but plans to keep some outside the country. Anticipating deliveries of US-made F16s from European allies, Ukraine has plans to store some of the fighter jets at bases abroad due to security concerns.

    • @FabiusPolis
      @FabiusPolis Před 3 dny

      Well, their plan has some serious flaws as its just an artificial delay of delivery. They can't start from a military base abroad and launch an attack as it would be a direct involvement of that country into the war and that base would become a target. At one point in time, you have to bring them into Ukraine and as soon as they arrive, the airfields will get attacked. They could play a game of chicken and loose only 1-2 fighters at one time, but with so few in use, its even less effective than the HIMARS systems, making the whole discussion about the F-16 more than less a paper tiger.

    Attritional wars require their own ‘Art of War’ and are fought with a ‘force-centric’ approach, unlike wars of manoeuvre which are ‘terrain-focused’. They are rooted in massive industrial capacity to enable the replacement of losses, geographical depth to absorb a series of defeats, and technological conditions that prevent rapid ground movement. In attritional wars, military operations are shaped by a state’s ability to replace losses and generate new formations, not tactical and operational manoeuvres. The side that accepts the attritional nature of war and focuses on destroying enemy forces rather than gaining terrain is most likely to win. The West is not prepared for this kind of war. To most Western experts, attritional strategy is counterintuitive.
