I love this theme. Despite the silliness to this score, I found it to be quite enjoyable to listen to. Intrada paired this soundtrack to Williams' soundtrack to How to Steal a Million (1966), and frankly, I enjoy the soundtrack to Bachelor Flat a lot more, and I haven even seen the film.

Another irony, because I just finished this soundtrack yesterday afternoon.

Geoffrey Unsworth's cinematography, Peter MacDonald's camera operating, Jeff East's and Phyllis Thaxter's acting and Christopher Reeve's voice acting, Richard Donner's direction, the location, and John Williams' heart-wrenching score completely make this one of the most beautiful parting scenes ever filmed.

One of Williams best scores, and horribly unknown! Also, you unfortunately don't hear this music in the film.

When I was younger, and was becoming familiar with Hitchcock's films, for the longest time, I thought Frenzy (1972) was his last film. I was stunned to find out he did one more, and even more stunned to find out that John Williams scored the film. One of my favorite soundtracks to listen to.

THANK YOU for this! My single favorite piece of music ever written. How this man hears these harmonies and then pairs them with the emotion of the picture will never cease to amaze me. He’s the greatest living musician in my opinion. I’d love to learn some of this as solo piano. It’s just so so good but also feels otherworldly in its genius 🤯

Thanks so much, Brett. I dragged my Dad to see this movie in 1974, lol. Mainly because I wanted to view the enchanting and hypnotic visual artistry of Vilmos Zsigmond. But as the journey through Texas unfolded, John Williams charming music became a character in the movie. When I hear this heartfelt theme I immediately think of Ben Johnson and his heart of gold.
