Strava link to the ride: www.strava.com/activities/11234015211
HOW TO GET THERE:
Sheepwash (as it is locally known) lies approximately half way between Osmotherley and Swainby and can be accessed via a minor road. Please be aware that if travelling from Swainby, the road is steep in places and there are a couple of tight bends along the route.
The ride starts at the car park and there are limited spaces, however there is a smaller car park towards Cod Beck Reservoir. Please note that parking is not permitted on the road side and there are blue signs displayed indicating this - be warned, you may receive a fixed penalty notice!!
Post ride, there are facilities in both Osmotherley and Swainby including cafes, pubs and shops. There is also a fish and chip shop in Osmotherley which I can highly recommended!!

nice ride out with some great views Great video Ian THANKS
Cheers thanks, views are always great up that way especially on a clear day😁
good ride out that one Ian makes a good video Cheers mate
Cheers 😁
Some nice descents there! If you can get a clear run down Captain Cooks you can really fly, I used to have the 7th fastest overall and KOM for my age range. Love Sleddale as well, preferably with a tail wind!
Cheers Bob, yeah some good descents but unfortunately plenty of walkers in the wrong places especially the descent from Percy Cross down into Lonsdale!! Also the head wind down Sleddale was frustrating to say the least!!
💕Wow 🤍💛💛💛💛💛💛
Once again a cracking video mate. Another route on my to do list 👍
Cheers fella 😁👍
you done some climbing on that on worth it though for those views Great video Ian and thanks
Cheers thanks for that 👍 Yes there was certainly quite a bit of climbing on the ride but the views and descent down to Bank Foot made up for it though 😁
Lovely weather mate, great having the breeze in ya helmet and smelling the moors😉👍love it.... Nothing like sheep sxxx under your chin🤣👍🇬🇧 Fantastic video
Thanks Stephen, glad you liked the video 😍
Fantastic scenery and brilliant tracks,, another one for the list😁👌❤️🇬🇧thanks for the footage my friend. Stay safe and sound mate
Thanks Stephen, it's a great ride and the scenery is amazing - guaranteed you'll like it 😄
No bank to steep my friend on an Ebike😁👌excellent thank you for the footage my friend, my kind of tracks😍👍
Thanks Stephen, glad you like the footage 👌
Great ride, mate. Picked a lovely day for it👍
Cheers fella, yes it was a nice sunny day although a bit nippy as mentioned in the video. Guess you'll recognise a few bits of Boltby Forest from your rallying exploits
I do love Boltby forest. I've not really been in boltby with the rally car but me and my brother used to watch the motorbike enduro every year until recently. And obviously after watching your video it's great for mountain biking too 🤙
Yes it's a good place for mountain biking. Re the motorbiking, there was an event there about a week before I filmed the ride 👌
Aye, that will probably have been the White Horse Enduro. That's one of the events we used to watch.
Absolutely beauty ride, mate. Really enjoyed that video 👍
Cheers fella 😁 Did it again a couple of weeks ago but had to abort the ride near Grassholme due to bad weather ☹
Yeah I can imagine it being far too muddy up there with all the rain we've had lately. You definitely picked the right day when you made the video though 👍
If you’re going up apedale about 200 yards or so before the very steep concrete climb there’s a track on the left which crosses the stream. Go up there until it peters out and go along the single track where the grouse butts are on the left and it’s up there. It’s about a half mile from the stream crossing.
Just had a look on Bing Maps, you can see the wreckage if you select the aerial mode
Great up there
Have you found the aircraft wreckage in Apedale?
No, wasn't aware there was any. Whereabouts is it??
Another cracking video 👍
Cheers fella, it was a great ride despite the windy conditions. Scenery was amazing as always 👌
That's a bugger of a climb out of Blanchland towards Slaley but worth it. Then again once you drop back down and climb up the road.
nice ride that one Ian think ill be doing this one weekend
@thepainterdude1 thanks for that, much appreciated. Hope you enjoy doing the ride
been looking at this area for a while you've got me going now Great video i'll be watching the rest of them now
Cheers for that, this ride is pretty much an all weather one. Plus the scenery is fantastic 👍
Great ride as usual mate. Some amazing scenery 👌
Cheers fella, was a great ride even despite the wind!! 😯 Saying that, the wind made the scenery amazing with the sun's rays shining through the clouds onto the valleys.
Dude you have an amazing channel. I love your rides. I'm new and not very experienced at mtb riding but I have actually done part of this ride. I parked at sneck yate and rode up past high paradise farm and boltby forest, along the Cleveland way to that amazing decent near black hambleton to the junction in the road that heads to square corner or Silton forest. I turned around there and retraced my steps. I didn't realise that there was a circular route
Nice one. We used to do the same route (Square Corner to Sutton Bank and back) when we started riding up there in the mid-late 90s until adding new bits such as Boltby and down towards Hawnby. This ride can be done in the opposite direction, best giving it a go in drier weather as a couple of sections in Silton Forest will be boggy in wet conditions.
I was looking for a ride to do tomorrow and thanks to you I've found it. I have only just discovered your channel and obviously I've subbed. I don't live far from Swainby, I'm in Thirsk. That ride looks awesome, a bit of everything.
Cheers Simon 😁 This has become one of my default rides, it can also be done the other way round but you ride up through Scugdale as opposed to climbing up Carlton Bank (see the Swainby to Hawnby Moor video).
Cracking video as always buddy 👍.
Cheers buddy, already on with the next one where we head back to the days of summer 🚵♀️👌
Another great video 👍
Cheers buddy, glad you liked it. It's a really good ride with a little bit of everything 👌
