These Are The Most INSANE Engines EVER
Today we're going to take a deep dive on the internet and look at some of the most insane, weird, and cool engines that you've probably never heard of.
This list includes a little bit of everything and the last engine is absolutely mental, so you'll want to stick around until the end.

    "Diehard diesel fans are going live, and die by their fully mechanical engines." Yes, I imagine that is correct. I will die by my mechanical 8.3, with it idling while I kick the bucket, and it will probably still be running when my kids' kids inherit it.

    i bought my 6.0 Excursion off a used car lot and before signing anything i told them i wanted a powertrain warranty cause i new the issues, those guys agreed and did it! well after 6 months that oil cooler went and the egr went and the head gaskets you know everything that was wrong with it went all at once! lets just say that warranty company paid what i payed for the truck! No issues since!

    Gas NEVER went back to "normal prices", because "normal prices" would've meant the 35 cents/gallon it was in August of '73 when the prices started their sharp rise. By 1980, the price of gasoline had gone over a dollar a gallon.

    It’s a great concept, it just needs ongoing refinement. I think Ford was too much in a rush to get this to market in advance of the Cybertruck

    I love my GM trucks, especially the GMT800 series. However, if I were to buy a gas tow-pig it would be a 7.3 Godzilla. We have a fair amount of mountains nearby and gas won't cut it for towing 12-20K lbs toy haulers. My buddy traded his 2023 L8T truck for a godzilla and it is night and day different. It still revs it's nuts off on steep hills. I just prefer diesel because they are still cool calm and collected at max power. I'll stick with my L5P and LBZ for now.

    I had a fuel pump issue 490 miles from home. I had to have a Dealer in Salina Kansa do the repair it was around 5000 dollars to replace the fuel pump and took 3 weeks but they gave me a new truck to drive no charge while mine was repaired. Love my 6.4 pulls a 14000 pound camper no problem. 175000 miles on it. Oh the video was good too.

    I have an 08 cobalt SS w/ the turbocharged LNF. Bought new and has complete bolt on with ported/polished head, oversized valves, stiffer springs and stage 2 cams and have never had issues with this engine. With E85 tune it currently sits at just over 400 whp and 419ftlbs. All stock bottom end with built head. This engine has not been anything but reliable. I also had the 05 SS with the supercharged lsj and never had issues with that either. This was also full bolt on with harrop tvs s/c with just over 370 whp and 350ftlbs. The only issues I’ve had with both was the clutch letting go and both destroyed the trans. It as far as the engines go have been phenomenal. My current 08 SS currently has just over 80k miles. Besides the 4g63 I had in my 06 EVO MR I have yet to own an I4 that has been as reliable while making good power. Neither car was beat but both were driven hard and zero issues not even oil leaks. The LNF in my 08 is extremely torquey for a 2.0 4cyl. Never been in a car with a 2.0 that has such a broad and strong torque curve. The LNF with stock block and built bottom end will hold well over 500whp which isn’t insane but very respectable for a stock block. And for the record both SS’s are the only GM cars I’ve ever owned and probably ever will. Never been a GM fan but from personal experience they did a great job in the development of these 2 engines esp the LNF. That being said I miss my 06 EVO. It made a lot of reliable hp but the 4g’s have never been known for their torque. But damn the awd system could not be beat, the closest thing in comparison was the subie STI but the subie falls short when it comes to the awd system. The Mitsubishi awd is FAR superior when it comes to traction and control. The only thing you can do in the subie that you DONT do in the EVO is dumping the clutch. Anyone that has ever owned and drove an EVO especially with power knows when you do an aggressive launch you have to slip the clutch.

    Alot of the up armored vehicles and armored vehiclss used CAT engines, they were way more powerful than the Detroit Diesel powered trucks. Our Caiman MRAP had a C7 in it. It was never low on power, it was tough and reliable.

    I have driven an Iron Duke. My mom had a Citation with that engine. I thought it was peppy, the Citation was a very light car and it got along well with very good gas mileage. I understand that the little US Mail trucks have that engine on the job every day. Sounds like a great place for it to work.

    The main thing being ignored is how high you have to rev to reach that 400hp, I assume it’s gotta be like above 8k before you actually begin your hp power band, a higher rev to begin a power band means a slower car and issues maintaining speed and power.

    OK - just STOP COMPLAINING about this engine! It is extraordinarily durable, and it's good on gas! To not understand this is to not understand the time period in which it was built. It was NOT MEANT for power! It's ridiculous to think that all cars and all engines should be powerful just because some people think it should be that way. Get over it! And though it was available in a Camaro or Firebird, hardly any of them ever got it! The government forced fuel economy regulations on GM and the Big 3. They HAD to meet those regulations. so they did what they had to do. Also, this is over 40 YEARS AGO. How many of these are even around anymore? So, WHO CARES?!

    Almost perfect list! I would add the Nissan L-Series Engines to the list. Nothing to write home about in regard to performance! However reliability is amazing.

  • @gregoryschmitz2131

    This is great information but knocking the EPA is wrong. Diesels had to clean up as did gasoline engines (starting in the 70s). If mfgs and EPA had cooperated, a better transition (development) period would have worked far better. Electronics are not in of themselves bad. The 7.3 with HEUI would actually start at 0 deg without plugging in. Like the gasoline emissions, issues occurred until they got a handle on it and the only other choice was to kill diesel engines entirely. Many a VW TDI 2.0 engine has gone 200,000+ miles and that is an electronic unit injector engine.

  • @gregoryschmitz2131

    It should be mentioned that there is also a 3412. 890 hp in the Backup Generator drive version pushing a 600KW Alternator (those truly are alternator though the package is called Gen Set). I had 3 of those. Major reliability issue was the fuel pump, they would start to weep. Easy enough to replace. I had one 3406 (B I believe). Only issue was the governor that we finally got Cat to pull apart and fix (it would stick on a load dump). All rang well despite running Jet A fuel they were not specified to do. Some nozzle seals let go but again, that could have been the fuel or equally the age (heate4d to 120 deg 24 x 365 for quick start in Standby mode.) Of that vintage I had a VTA-1710. I would call them equal. Both started well, picked up load well and few issues (again heated 24 x 365 meant it was almost partly running as far as seal age went all the time).

    I had a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA in my 1990 Class A motor home sold in 2023 that passed emission testing in Phoenix, AZ each of the 4 years I owned it, sold it in 2023.. It was an awesome engine with plenty of power unbelievable torque and never failed me once. It did get terrible fuel mileage however.

    Here's another vote for the 225 SLANT 6!!! I've torn down many 'sick' ones that should NOT of still been running based on the wear alone! Like most 4ever motors, it wasn't big on power (except the 'Super 6' versions) but will keep on running. almost against the laws of physics. Don't even get me started on the 318...the nearly bullet proof V-8.

    It is also about how sharp the ignition setting you can have. And if someone has the claim that you are not supposed to have a setting that is optimized for the fuel, that's a bit strange opinion if you don't want to disadvantage the fuel to make it sound worse than it is

  • @Andersljungberg
    @Andersljungberg Před 2 dny

    Then maybe you should also talk about octane Ron and octane mon. There are those who believe that the Octane value in mon may be more important. Perhaps applies to those who like to rev the engine

  • @Andersljungberg
    @Andersljungberg Před 2 dny

    Why do you think they in drag racing want fuels that burn quickly. Although apparently there are those that run on diesel

  • @Andersljungberg
    @Andersljungberg Před 2 dny

    The screen on the Dyno test probably doesn't agree with that. Then you also have to consider that higher compression can lead to the combustion of the fuel becoming more efficient. Then it is perhaps not strange that the car consumes more energy if the car uses more horsepower or can drive faster
