You summarize it and call it terrible, but you never justify your viewpoint without continuing to make meaningless comments about how it was "such a badly written book... turned out to be terrible... supposed to be really good..." So define good. I respect your opinion, and I'm not sure what genres or writing styles you are interested in. I know that this was an extremely difficult read for me on both the emotional and comprehensible levels. Yet, it's not supposed to be enjoyable. It's not good in the sense that it's enjoyable and comforting like stories with true resolutions. This story does not have a resolution. That's what makes Morrison's work so special. The amount of unanswered questions, characters whose motivations Morrison has left us to assess the ethics of, the skips between timelines. And if the latter is what prevents you from understanding this book, since you seem to only have a prowess at summarizing the bare centimeters of the surface of this entire novel, then I encourage you to reread it and really think about why the confusion is so significant in the context of its purpose. To demonstrate how the traumatic experiences of the Black community parallel this complexity and urge us, as a nation, to keep reckoning with the past. To mend the wounds we have not fully sought forgiveness for. For the Black community, too, to grapple with the past, just as they have done through generations of genuine hurt, and to ground unity in ensuring that the same pain does not happen to each other.
