    Hi Guys, What do you use as a CAN communication card in the diagram at minute 16? I want to send data from my c++ based simulator to the satellite computer

    thanks for sharing this content. On slide 12 I think there is a typo in the last two TM frames, instead of N(S)=1 it should be N(R)=1. thanks

    I appreciate the strong stance on demonstrations over documentation, what have you found is the best way to incorporate this into your say GitHub or where ever your open source resources are ?

      We have found that taking recordings and videos of our demonstrations is a really nice way to make the material available as these can be added as reference items within the project ecosystem. This allows new members to see what has been undertaken and also allows us to revisit and see how far things have come.

      Really glad you have found this useful... There were quite a few concenpts that we learned about on the journey which are tricky to pick up from simply reading the blue books. We are hopeful to release another (similar) video about CSP (CubeSat Space Protocol). This is another standard that has caused us quite a lot of head scratching and we would like to share another dummys guide in the coming months.

    Ahh, you covered that later in the podcast. However, the problem of HAL/OSAL is super minor in comparison to the application software. So I think you are a little over inflating the cross-chip issue. Secondly, how does the idea of opensat and RT version of SAMV71 for 3500usd/pcs fits together? 😊

      On OSSAT, we are going to be designing for Low Earth Orbit using commercial technologies. We plan to create a variant of OSSAT that gets it into harsher orbits/environments. For this, Rad Tolerant/Rad Hard variants will be used... This is fairly far down the roadmap. As for the cross-chip issues, its worth saying that there is a lot more uniformity of peripherals with the STM32 family vs SAM families. In our experience, the different peripherals can cause issues not only to driver level but also further into the application layer (e.g. if you rely upon specific nuances of DMA/interrupts etc).

    Samv71 has the RadHard version. So u have a chance to replace it with the tough one whenever u need to.

      Absolutely, SAMV71 does have Rad Tolerant and Rad Hard cousins... Awesome stuff: beware that the peripherals (e.g. UART) change from one cousin to the next... So your nice UART driver for SAMV71 will not work on e.g. SAMRH71 :(

    Thanks for this great talk! Currently working on a simple implementation of the space packet protocol for my groups bachelor assignment. This really helps out, giving an overview of these protocols instead of having to to run knee deep into the blue books x_)

    I think more than 8 thousand satellites is a small number compared to the world's population and even also are few number compared to the earth up atmosphere sphere surface ... As you know all GNSS types cannot superficially target every signal everywhere on earth without station center field!... Your project will be historically revolutionary if it was accomplished for all GNSS orbits...I think maybe there are many problems in establishing it and because I am not expert then I am not sur what I ask about !...Firstly, the voltage response every time from the transceiver...Secondly, the confirmation of high-frequency transmission!?...Thirdly, the shape of the ground receiving platform seems to be possible maybe smaller like a phone, but how does it contain the necessary systems like those found on the ground stations?! ... Fourth, how does the satellite calculate its coordinates independently and accurately!? ... Fifthly, correcting the satellite orbit is an unexpected matter !How will the limit energy quantity for the correcting engines be ensured? ... extra problems..!!!!
