How to Properly Install a Ground Sheet for Your US Military Pup Tent
zhlédnutí 750Před 3 měsíci
Today I look at how to make a floor for your US Military Pup Tent from a cheap 8x6 tarp that I got for $5. Using a ground sheet is very important with these tents as they do not have any kind of floor that comes with them to protect your sleeping pads, sleeping bags, and keep you dry. You don't have to prove or show that gun is unloaded. You knew it wasn't loaded so there you go.

      That is correct. However some people have a literal heart attack if you don't prove it or get your finger anywhere near the trigger, even on an unloaded gun lol

    Maybe just zip tie the top of the belt enclosure and the top pull loop together. The zip tie would also take up any slack at the top of the belt.

    I only use one of these magazine pouches because I can use the grenade holders for a hatchet and an extra tourniquet, otherwise it's a 200rd SAW pouch or 2 qt canteen cover for carrying multiple magazines MACV-SOG style.

    Your Level 1 and possibly your level 2 kit are too basic as it doesn't account for an accident as you have insufficient SURVIVAL gear. A poncho provides limited coverage as a tarp from wind, cold, cold wind, rain, snow and critters and uncomfortably hot in Summer. Ponchos get caught on branches, can be damaged and are a nuisance when windy. A large sized tarp or tent is practical along with rain jacket or anorak and rain pants, providing additional warmth during cold weather. You have no survival signaling gear depending on your cellphone alone. Planning a day hike should consider locations of water sources along the intended path. Your canteen is your only support. It should cover at least your normal near daily consumption unless proximity to water is available during your hike along with means to boil or water purification tablets. During cold/Winter, sleeping on bare, wet or snowy ground will withdraw your body heat. Access to pine or spruce bows or dry leaves might do in a pinch along with a fire for attention, warmth and fear for animals. My gear includes my DIY Dyneema 4.05 ounce tent and heat reflective, breathable, wind and water resistant/proofed anorak, over-pants and my DIY integrated survival device including whistle, compass, water purification tablets, ferro cerium rod, tinder, diamond knife/fish hook sharpener and survival mirror, Victorinox device, Boker folding knife and 2 red flares. My Mora batoning knife sits horizontally on my belt for lack of interfering with my leg interupting my concentration and reducing my speed. Any physical leg interference reduces one's speed, comfort and concentration as do cargo pants having to lift the weight within and limit the pants circumference generating leg friction. I've experienced survival, limping out of the wilderness with three torn ligaments. I had to relearn how to walk. While hiking with two others, one slipped and tore a number of ligaments in his knee. I helped lock down his leg with a pair of tree limbs and rope. It took us about 45 minutes to get him out. We were lucky as we were only about 15 minutes into the hike. Accidents do happen and are normal occurances. Fortunately, I studied survival skills prior to hiking. I have over 55 years of hiking experience. My gear covers a lot of potential survival scenarios which is what hiking alone is all about. It's not just a walk in the park. Based on watching innumerable hiking videos showing their hiking and thru-hiking gear, it's easy to see that a walk in the park is what they think it is.

    A suggestion would be at least a tourniquet if not an individual IFAC on your level 1. One really nasty fall or violent encounter (animals or people) may give you more holes than what you walked in with.

    @Rick_Makes Před 24 dny

    There's some great ideas there. Have you tried any set ups with longer poles using the shelter halves as you would a traditional tarp to make a shelter you can stand under? I've not had chance to experiment yet to see if the triangular ends would be useful or just get in the way.
