      Haha. Why would I build something at my neighbors house. 😂. That deck is almost 20 years old and I built it along with my house, myself. It is due (this winter) to be rebuilt, once it cools off here with some upgraded materials. No drilling into it after that. 😉Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    Don't know why I haven't seen your channel before -- your camper build is *exactly* the kind of thing I've been looking for! Looks ingenious -- it appears you have a full build playlist so I'll definitely be watching those with interest. I'm sure there's much I would want to copy. Do you offer plans as well? I may end up doing things somewhat differently, but it's nice, as someone with little recent building experience, to see how you've proceeded. Many Thanx! Cheers!...from North Vancouver

    How is the paint holding up a year later? Do you guys get much rain where you live? I’m also building a camper and paint is definitely a much cheaper option as to filon wrapping it! Love the build, happy camping!

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Před 19 dny

      Paint is holding up perfectly. It’s marine grade bilge paint so it’s pretty tough stuff and high quality. We don’t get muck rain in socal but lots of sun. No issue with sun either. Trucks always outside. I just maintain it weekly with washes and a spray wax to keep it looking new. If I lived in a super rainy place i probably would have skinned the camper with a thin aluminum sheet just to be safe instead of my wood. I did marine seal everything before paint which I’m sure you saw in the videos as well. Good luck. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT. ✌🏼

    I’d like to build a camper for my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab , 6’ bed pickup. It would need to be a cab over. I’d install solar panels on the roof. It would have to be insulated for early spring through late fall camping fun. We live in north central Washington state up in the mountains and here at our house we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter, so in the areas that we enjoy camping are unavailable in the winter.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Před měsícem

      Sounds like a good project. I would suggest using an aluminum exterior skin since you’re in a much wetter climate than me. My wood is holding up well, but I’d be worried in the PNW wet. Good luck. Thanks for watching.

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 Před měsícem

      @@TravelingbyTacoma The Left side of Washington gets all of the rain. In our area we get normal rainfall in the spring and fall. No rain during the summer and a LOT of snow in the winter. Three years ago we had 2 feet of snow on the ground and a bad storm came in. We got an additional 3 feet in 10 hours. I felt so bad for my wife as I had shoulder surgery two weeks prior, so she had to get out and use our snow thrower to clear our driveway. There’s 9 families who live on our private road so thankfully Everyone was snowed in so there are 3 families who have a snow plow blade on their tractor’s, so they cleared our road to the county toad.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Před 2 měsíci

      I haven’t been filming much, just using the camper and having fun with it. I’m not very good at the whole CZcamsr blog style videos lol. I may make one, but if you have any questions I’ll answer them. Things I’d do differently- make it a bit wider so it’s easier I take on and off and a little more room inside ( bed is plenty big for us -bigger than our rooftop tent was) but would be good to sit more comfortably inside when trapped by weather or mosquitoes. I figured out a way to raise it safely without the wedges if you’ve seen that process. I eliminated those and there’s a permanent x of webbing that stabilizes the roof on each side…way better and way faster. You can see them if you zoom in on my last insta post. Other than that it’s been rad. Paint is holding up great (boat bilge paint is pretty tough stuff) no leaks, no cracks and still get an avg of 17.5 mpg. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy 4th. ✌🏼

      Thanks. Yeah, the marine sealer and the marine bilge paint is pretty good stuff. I used the premium top coat paint on my boat in the past (several years backs) and it’s still in excellent condition. It’s not cheap though. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    Hi Bud am from the UK 🇬🇧 my brother in law was going to have problems with the weight of his camper van so what he did was put on 3 tier Air bags to the back Axle one each side took the total weight he could carry by 1.5 tonne extra he did fit a line on the sides so he could top them up easily he said the stability of his vehicle is fantastic now holds bumps and corners great 👍 well done think I would make a front cone to make it more aerodynamic better gas mpg and less noise

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Před 3 měsíci

      Nice. My camper only weighs about 750lbs dry and fully loaded for a trip it’s still under GVRW for my model. I added new leafs springs, and sumo bumps ( airless airbags) along with E load tires. The truck holds the eight well and I still avg about 18 mpg. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT.

    This has been a very interesting thread to follow. You are a master craftsman my friend. What was the end weight fully loaded out and how does the truck handle it ie does it make the truck feel too heavy or want to lay over real bad in curves. I can’t wait to see what your next project might be.

    • @TravelingbyTacoma
      @TravelingbyTacoma Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks! The total weight when we’re fully loaded, both of us, water, food, gear, propane and fire pit and lots of beer for 3-4 day trip is right at the 5600 lbs GVRW for my SR5 model. Camper dry is about 750lbs- ish. I added heavy duty leafs, sumo spring bump stops and e load tires to hold the weight. It drives pretty good, you definitely can feel it, but, I still avg about 17.5 mpg for the last year it’s been on there. 63 mph is the sweet spot. Thanks for watching and commenting. TbT. 🤙🏼

      Thanks for watching. The camper is about 750lbs dry weight. I don’t have a heating system, we live in Southern California and don’t really need heating with the insulation. We use a heater buddy if it’s cold enough, but that’s almost way too hot. 🥵 Good luck. TbT.

    Is that insulation good for reducing some sound outside? Just curious cause i hear people sometimes have too much noise, mostly in van builds.
