What ferguson and mclean did in Scotland will never be equalled
Im an American and unfortunately growing up I wasn't able to watch any Scottish Football in the 1980s. And of course I've heard stories about them and obviously them being the last non Celtic/Rangers team to win. I have a few questions for those that were/are supporters and for those who supported other clubs that remember them. Would love to hear your stories and honest opinions for those that lived through it, no matter who you supported. Just how great was Aberdeen in the 1980s? Who were their best players? Was Celtic/Rangers down during those years or were Aberdeen that great? Would love to hear from you, cheers!!
Bit of both , Celtic were still a force (winning 4 titles from the late 70s to mid 80s) rangers had fallen away while Dundee Utd also had a great side and manager ,Aberdeen had some great players at the time Miller , Mcleish,Leighton but what made the difference was the manager.Ferguson brought a desire to win and was on a mission to topple the Glasgow clubs , a great time to be an Aberdeen fan and a great time for Scottish football in general
Can anyone provide subtitles for Alex Ferguson's rant at 26:50 ? I understood Aberdeen, Rangers and Disgrace, but that was about it.
the luckiest team in the world the day,a disgrace of a performance , Miller and Mcleish won the cup for Aberdeen,Miller and Mcleish played rangers themselves the day, i dont care about winning cups our standards were set a long time ago and im not going to accept that performance from any Aberdeen team
@@andrewjohnston2850 excellent!
Thank you for uploading this. Absolutely brilliant
I,m an Aberdeen, fan from Spain, and all the Scottish football in general. I remember this 80,s year with a lot of emotions. This team was some marvellous for me, amazing. Those matches with Bayern, Real Madrid, with Sir Alex Fergusson....... unforgettable!!!❤❤
What a team! I remember being on the end of a 0-8 bleaching at Fir Park in ‘79, and understanding (even aged 12) that the Dons were differently put together. I also remember nearly sh***ing my pants when that Real free kick missed by a bawhair in the dying minutes. A fantastic night for all of Scotland 🏴🏴🚩
Her laugh is EVERYTHING ❤😂
Incredible result. Alex and the ladz conquering!
AAAAAAAaaaaalbion.
Brilliant
50 planes and a ferry left Aberdeen to Gothemburg.
Thought this one with Alison was not funny, with all those stars Alison has met not many, if any replied. Shame as this is usually one of the funniest section of the show.
Yes, shame the Rock or Harrison Ford didn't reply back lol
reminds me of when I would put my cassette recorder up against the speaker on my AM radio to capture my favourite songs.
I used to do that as well lol. It was the quickest way to send the video to a friend, then easy for me upload to CZcams and then can stream it, rather than download a 2Gb file lol
Good old days…. Thanks for uploading!
Love it!! Thanks for posting!
I need to see the replies!!
It's coming!

THANKSSSSS
Thank you for downloading!! ❤
Celtic fan, Aberdeen and Dundee utd really did carry the flag for Scottish football in Europe at that time with some memorable games and always guaranteed a great game when they came to Glasgow.
I’m Glasgow too, they were great teams. Remember being really upset when Dundee U lost to Gothenburg.
Don't stop believing...
A fairytale indeed!
Despite all he achieved at Man Utd this is Fergies greatest achievement. They also won the super cup the following season beating Hamburg over two legs.
The most unbelievable thing about this time was archie McPhersons hairdoo.
What is the common demonitor in European sucess? I'ts the guys that have been in the later stages and have the experience....why the fuck don't Aberdeen hire McLeish as manager
Cos he's a crap manager
did you see Aberdeen under Mark Mcgee ?
Glory days! Nearly 40 years ago. WE couldwait another 40 years and we'll never see a team of Scots win a European trophy again.
What a story, legends
I remember watching this match back in '83. Yes, it really does seem like 38 years ago, but I do recall Aberdeen were all over Real M in the second half. Really had them on the ropes. Fully deserved the victory. 2-1, and even then the Real goal was from a very dodgy penalty.
looks like i have stumbled across another u tube gem. remember that game like it was yesterday. im sure my aberdonian cousins do. just because i saw one aberdonian game against airdrie while i was visiting my cousins im goona jump on the glory bandwagon. b.t.w i forgot that fergie was in charge at the time

that's easy for you to say min...
Great to see somebody regularly beating the gruesome twosome and winning stuff. great team that played great football

As much of a hard nut as he was, Neale Cooper seemed like a nice guy
It wasn't David vs Goliath. It was more like David's labrador puppy vs Goliath and his mates. It is a literally unbelievable story... except it happened. Incredible.
That Labrador puppy had a fierce snap and bite in him, mind you! :-)
Any video of the previous year's Grampian Cup match on Bute, which the south won?
Cameron Fleming my dad 😍
I remember him well. A nice lad and a good shinty player.
COYR
John Hewitt,thank you...............tears.
Its not often mentioned or remembered that they almost did it again the following season only losing in the semi final to Porto. The other semi was Man Utd and Juventus.
We were unlucky to lose the other semi final to Juventus. We were the better team over the 2 legs. What a final that would have been!! United v Aberdeen.
Referee was well paid by Porto
Porto paid the ref off in that tie. The year after that, we reached the Quarter Final of the European Cup, losing on goal difference to (ironically enough) Gothenburg. We exited the competition unbeaten.
"He told Dougie Bell's wife, who was pregnant at the time - under no circumstances was she to have the baby before the Cup Winners Cup final" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sir Alex is the best manager of all time.....
100%
This is literally his first managerial job and they think Mourinho is the special one.
What a god Fergie is.
Away the dandy dons!
02:32 Minor quibble, but Sir Alex Ferguson couldn't have been aged 35 in 1978, he was born in 1941- sack the researcher!! 😂😂😜😉 miracle to win the CWC though, only Fergie could have done it.🏆
Andrew Parker they're a year out, he was 36 as he joined in June and his birthday isn't until the end of the year. But as you say, doesn't take much research to find that out!
Kenny Dalglish supported Rangers, let’s forget all that shite.
Replying to wrong comment.. eegit
John Hewitt,so humble.Put tears in my eyes,I was at the Bayern game,I'll never forget it.
I was there also never seen johns goal for still celebrating Alex goal
What a guy...............John Hewitt.
Indeed. What doesn't get mentioned is that after Big Eck's equaliser we were still going out on away goals, but Hewitt goes into the goal to retrieve the ball @ 13:57 and launches it upfield to get on with the game. Less than a minute later he had scored the goal that was to be the winner and make everything that came after possible. Always thought it was a pity the cameraman misses the build up by focussing on McLeish as the game gets underway. Obviously the ball goes out for a throw in and someone centres and Black gets his head on it, then Hewitt puts away the rebound.
Come on you Dons....let's ave you back up there challenging the Celts, respect from Tottenham Hotspur FC
Oh for that great days to be back again proudest moments of my Aberdeen supporting days
neil cooper. " it was a moment ill never forget"He forgot soon enough as he signed for rangers 2 years later. pity as he would have been a legend ,like most others, from this team. Now he is considered a hun by reds and sheep shagger by them
I don't like Rangers either. Let's be fair though. Yes Neale Cooper did play for Rangers as did Alex Ferguson. Alex McLeish later managed them. I don't feel the immense contribution they made to the success indicated above should not count because of an association with Rangers.
kevin gallagher you are probably right, in that most players would do the same I don't think Miller or McLeish would have went to the Old Firm as players. I would imagine they were both sounded out by them as they were the best in the country,at the time
I am glad we agree the phanton. I am actually a Celtic fan but I have a healthy respect for the Aberdeen team we competed against. In 1980 you beat us twice at Celtic Park in the run in to winning the league and in 1984 and 1985 you beat us by 7 points on both occasions. As a child at the time I was cheering on the dons against Real Madrid and feeling delighted when they did won. Much later on I found it hard to accept Gordon strachan as the Celtic manager as I remembered him as a formidable foe from the 1980s.
Cooper actually left 3 years later and it was for Aston Villa. He then moved to Rangers in 1988 and made his debut in the infamous "Simpson/Durrant" match where he scored a great goal from outside the penalty area. He signed again for Aberdeen but could not get up to the fitness standard required and left without making a single appearance
RIP Neale Cooper, passed away in 2018.
Good reactions from DC though!
