That "fix" didn't work at all for me and I filed that part with brand new files and sanded it down smooth.
Sorry to hear that. Some others have reported success with shaving a bit off the height of the legs. I personally haven't tried that so YMMV
It works perfectly now 13 rounds not a problem now - perfect nice catch on this 👍
Glad it worked for ya!
Maybe I got lucky. I just recently bought a Shield Plus about 3 weeks ago. When I first bought it, I had an issue with the 13th round. After running about 250 rounds through it, the issue is gone. Is this something that is generally worked out through actually using the pistol or did I just get lucky?
I’ve heard they updated the follower design so maybe you got lucky! Enjoy the new gun, it’s a great shooter.
I can only get 11 outta the 13 in. So far I've been ok with it but it's gonna bother me now coming across this video.
You can fix it!
Thumbs up buddy
Thank you 🙏
I could get the 13th in. It damages the ammo though. Crappy design and sold my plus because of it.
Outstanding work on that sir.
Funny how I come across this video. Just got the shield the other day and couldn't for the life of me get the last two rounds in. This is probably why. Complete bs. This is also a year later
How the hell did you manage to fit a coyote in a ranger? 😅 Awesome job man i have an 06 ranger that needs more power but it looks like a huge pain in the ass just too throw an ls in there let alone a coyote
Lots of cutting and banging 🤣
Fantastic video. Thank you. Subscribed!!
The coil spring in the video is tapered at the bottom the updated 13 round springs are not like that.
Anyone notice weird dents on their brass ? I’d imagine it’s the magazine causing the issue?
S&W!!!! Do something about this!!! For the algo
Mechanical problems have mechanical solutions. Meanwhile, S&W has management and attitude problems with no solutions in sight. I have no doubt that their engineers are quite capable of anything they need to do. It's the PR and lawyer side that seems to be causing these "disconnects" between customers and the company. Great video! Not their only magazine with design flaws (rather than production defects). Talking specifically of M&P 10mm mags.
Some others have reported success with customer service sending new mags. I did not have success with contacting them about the problem
@@SacksGarage in my observation there are layers to this. The "reps" that we talk to are just bobbleheads, people on the phone. They are polite and try to help. How they help depends on company's stance on the given issue. If the company recognizes the issue, they might "take care of you". If not, it becomes impossible for the reps to help meaningfully. In my case they readily sent me replacement mag springs and followers, and an RSA. Except they are the same as before, so nothing is fixed. They don't admit to the well documented issues (with the 10mm) and so they give you boilerplate stuff like "it takes 500 rounds to break in" and "don't use overpressure ammo" (which doesn't exactly exist in 10mm production loads). Corporate culture is a relentless phenomenon. Once it takes hold, things only go one way. Thank you again for the vid.
Still, the mags are super difficult to insert. Been running 12 and 9 instead of 13 and 10. Is it just oversprung? Should I remove a section of spring?
I can’t recommend removing a section of spring as they are designed to work through the entire travel of the follower. I’d hate for you to have a Fail to Feed from a weak spring
I have 4 extra springs now from Smith and Wesson. The follower isn't my issue, 13 rounds fit. It's fine when the gun is locked open, mag inserts normally. It's when the slide is forward and the bottom of the slide depresses that top round in that magazine, it's too tight. I have the extra springs and followers to play around with. But do you think it would help?
@@bdub0983 I have heard of other people taking a little material off the legs of the followers. Might be worth a try if you have extras! Definitely would not recommend messing with the springs
I have two 13rd mags. I can fit 13 rds in each of them. Maybe they fixed the issue? I just purchased this firearm a week ago.
I have heard they’ve updated their follower design. Would love to hear about the ramping if you happen to take it apart!
I can get the 13th round in but my magazines wont go in easily like they should when loaded full. Even loaded down one its still tight. Its the mags, not the gun cuz empty mags go right in
Thank you for creating the video. A lot of folks are having this issue. I'm going to share it internationally on police forums.
Thanks!
@@SacksGarageS & W owes you big time.
Works 100% Confirmed
Love it!
Man...I did this and it didn't work for me. I could only get eleven in. I flipped the spring around to shift it more forward in the mag and I can now get twelve with a struggle. My ten round loads great though.
Sorry it didn't work for ya!
@@SacksGarageI'm thinking maybe his carving skills were off slightly.
Interesting. I’ve never had an issue with my shield or equalizer magazines (getting them to full capacity).
Great video, thanks! It’s also hard to insert a magazine into the gun when the mag is full, will it fix it as well?
Can't say for sure but I imagine it would!
since I don't want to search for it, is there a video with the 'fixed' mag?
Towards the end you'll see the fixed mag
S&W should be aware of this flaw, another thing I found is that the height of the follower adds more effort to put the las 2 bullets, what I did was to take some material from the bottom part so it can go farther and lower maybe just a hair never took the chance to measure before and after but it helped a lot
I’ve got 4 13 rounders and 3 15 rounders not a single one can be loaded to capacity s&w sent me a new follower to test and it still didn’t work I did however follow this guide and get one of the mags to work but I will be sending them all in to s&w because I shouldn’t have to do this and would still not trust them
Well that’s great and I appreciate the “do it yourself” fix but I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend $500 on self defense hand gun with defective mags and then do a “fix it myself” deal on it. Smith & Wesson can kiss my grits. If I owned one of these guns I would ship the mags back to them and demand THEY fix or replace them. And Smith can pay the damn postage too. This is why people prefer Glocks, they work…EVERY TIME. Smith & Wesson ought to be ashamed of themselves for releasing defective mags into the market.
when the light turns green i wait like 2-3 seconds looking both left and right. good work man!
I was so anxious waiting for that spring to launch
haha me too but it worked out great!
The springs between the short magazine and long magazine are the same length, configuration, number of coils, and configuration. The wire size for both is .05” dia. The newer magazine followers are identical too. Although, the followers have been modified like you suggest… though a very tiny flat still exists on the pointy corners you filed sharp; this appears to be a flatted stop foot at each corner of the follower… and making the followers slightly shorter in height… as a means to keep a round count as it no longer interferes with the spring. I would suggest removing perhaps 1/16” from the follower height at those feet, but keeping same follower attachment means, and removing 1 to three full turns of the spring at the reduced area at the top fitting directly to the follewer; duplicating the 90 degree bend attaching to the follower to retain it in an empty magazine.
Springs are normally fine-tuned by the manufacturer and I would be hesitant to change the spring mechanics and cause feed issues
Excellent! I can stop using my solution... which was to wack the bottom of the mag on the bench top.
Thanks! Just found your video and fixed three mags in about ten minutes. S&W needs to fix this!
Glad it worked! Apparently they are shipping mags with updated followers now!
Just wanted to say thanks. I have a M&P 45C and have been having the same issues as Shield mags was with issues with the some of the 8rd mags not wanting to take the full 8. Of course S&W just says you can use 7 or it will break in some over time. I took my mags apart and saw what you are talking about. I looked at old mags and compared to newer ones and I see where S&W has modified the lower portion of the back follower but not the front side. I could see the small indentations on the front follower on 1 side where it was hitting and blocking it from full compression.. I beveled both front followers to give them a nice angle with mini files. Now it works like a champ. You should put this fix out to the M&P forums and send to the Customer no service folks at S&W and ask them why they cant see this?
A loaded cement truck is the one truck that you do not want to get hit by it will literally go through everything
Hate these idiots that just fly through Red lights. Should have the Red Light cameras back in place.
My guess is the driver probably wasn't paying attention and by the time they realized, it was too late to get on the brakes. A courtesy horn would have been best.
Guys gotta change his pants and his seat not
Wrong movie
Which movie is it then?
@@force9446must be Breakfast Club or something
Send this to that company. What a pile of shit driver.
Nice
Nice
Same issue for the 10 rounder. Couldn’t get the 10th round in I’ll have to consider this option for that mag as well. Thanks for posting this!
Glad it worked! Apparently they are shipping mags with updated followers now!
Totally fixed my issue! Thanks for the video. Confirmed the pop sound when force loading. Took 5 minutes to take apart and file down the corners. S&W should really fix this!
Glad it worked! Apparently they are shipping mags with updated followers now!
Same thing happened to me. Live and learn. You left the trailer "naked". Zero protections.
yup. Normally have a cable locked through the wheels and forgot to put it back on!
@@SacksGarage Won't forget again.
@@inthedarkwoods2022damn straight!
I just bought one of these and they have still not fixed the problem Also makes no sense that the ported barrel isn't optic ready But this thing is bad ass
Thank you! I was wondering I do appreciate this!
Very useful tip, thanks!
Will that solution also make it easier to rack back with a fully loaded 13-round magazine? Currently it's very hard. Thanks!
I would imagine so..others have asked the same question but have not heard any success stories. I did not have any issues with racking the slide.
Yes, that was one of my issues along with it not wanting to take the full round count. If you force in the round then install the magazine the round is pushing up against the bottom of slide too hard and that makes it just about impossible to rack back.
@@IcyReaper But did the solution in the video made racking back the slack easier for you? (with 13 loaded rounds)
@@Bbbb-kn6vzYes, it went from just couldn't do it to no issues at all. I just went and compared it to my other older mags with no issues and the rack force was the same.
Smith & wesson is well aware of the 12 round issue and they have said they are fixing it and will send out new mags if you are having that issue.
Just contact S&W, I assume?
How expensive was the swap money wise
Up to this point, $11.4k and over half of that was the donor truck. I imagine at today's prices you're probably looking closer to 15k
Gave you a 👍and I’m in California where we can only have 10. Took magazine for an inspection and everything looked good so I reassembled. Still I only get 9 and what 1 less round. 1 more than my 1911. I’ll just live with it lol
How did you get the Coyote to fit and what did you do for engine mounts?
It’s pushed against the firewall and barely fits! I hacked up the stock motor mounts and used some flat steel bar to bridge the gap. You can find the process in my other videos
