zhlédnutí 213Před rokem
I'm giving two sessions at PAS Data Community Summit this year: a pre-con session, "Performance Tuning: Learn from My Mistakes," plus a regular session on Git and GitHub skills for data folks. In this video I share why I'm excited about both sessions. Hope to see you in Seattle in November! Registration and conference info is at passdatacommunitysummit.com/

Only theory is boring to listen...it would have been better if you show in practical. 😊
I got the script but I find out after searching for very long time. If you provided the script name that would be helpful. any way thanks for the wonderful video
why are you the best teacher? huh?
I have looked a several explation but yours is the simplest and the best! thanks!
Sometimes I wish that I work with you :)
The simplest, shortest and clearest presentation of the topic i have found so far. Thank you.
Invalid column name 'plan_forcing_type_desc'. why this appear ?
Really cute idea, but those are some odd examples compared to how you might normally see them used.
Hi Kendra... is there room to negotiate not signing that clause that states I am not allowed to work with a competitor?
Hi Kendra and Eric... On the topic of CTEs: I think I have to disagree with you, from a logical processing standpoint, on wanting TSQL to filter window functions within the same query. Because as a user, you're expected to think that filtering on rows is done first (where clause), then grouping (group by clause), then group filtering (having clause)... then at last, the select statement get executed ... so you really can't filter window functions in the where clause of the same query. Unless what you mentioned about snowflake does a CTE in the behind scenes .. which I'd argue isn't a helpful thing to nudge users to understand the processing aspects in the background. What do you think? :)
Very interesting video Awesome
thank you so much for this guide on how to think about optimizing a query!
you catalyze my sql
too much un nessary talks
For one line she wasted my 17 min. Shit these types of videos
I will refund your money promptly
Not only was the video not a waste, it was *extremely* helpful to here Kendra's breakdown on how to approach an execution plan review, not to mention the positive affirmation of don't give up on the plan, keep going, etc. It's a shame you took so little away from this.
Why don’t you add detail course for performance tuning or optimisation in sql server from basics
That was a great explanation, thanks 😊
Just found your content. Great content. 2024
Fun discussion to listen to. Miss you in Pdx Kendra. And thanks to Eugene, you have a great way of making some of the complex PBI concepts understandable. Thank you both.
Thanks for the feedback and great to hear!
Thnks, usefull. But <Shift> + <Alt> +Up/Down Arrow is more pratice insted of <Ctrl>+Mouse moving
Just watched this one again for the laughs. Thank you! We need more live Dear SQL DBA sessions!
Kendra attended the meeting with pyjamas?

Very helpful, thanks
Very well explained, Thanks you!
What a great interview! Michael is an incredibly smart guy and was kind enough to answer my questions when I was starting with DB automation some time ago.
amazingly simple explanations of the very complicated subject. Thank you!
👍👍👍
The force is genuinely strong with these two. Much respect for their FORCE abilities, no pun intended 😆
STAR interview method has become very popular lately. e.g. Tell me about a time you resolved a performance problem/dealt with a difficult co-worker/failed miserably. Rather than, what's the difference between a clustered non clustered index? That one still weeds out a lot of the pretend DBAs though!
Hello Legends! :)
The hiring process is broken by design. It has been like this my whole life and the fix to hiring has been studied and proposed. The changes to fix the issue won't happen. A lot of companies like the random result so they can openly discriminate without getting sued. They love convincing people that academic puzzles and biased tests are the way to hire. I was brainwashed to hire this way. It didn't work. I ended up passing on great candidates or hiring incompetent's workers that were great at this process. The talented ones were offended by that process and sometimes wouldn't even take the offer. I broke the rules and hired a few great candidates. After a while, I was even confronted by HR because I had a better success rate then HR professionals. My process: just have a pleasant conversation with the candidate about what they have done and if it aligned with what we needed and talk with them about how they approach problems and tell them what the job is like. I recommended a hire that was so good he got raise after raise. I didn't take into account any of the biased testing. Another important observation: the process changes with some candidates and becomes easier or harder at a whim. There is no correlation with interview skills and on the job skills in most of these interviews. The disconnect has been getting worse (in my opinion). Also, I have gotten hired after refusing to be hazed and didn't take any technical test of any kind. I wouldn't recommend refusing today but it worked a few years ago.
Why am I watching thumbnail sized images of you two having a discussion?
I remembered your article about wide indexing with hashbytes back in the day. I'm now a data engineer.
Good to see you back Kendra!
What is Pass? Also you look familiar from somewhere
Kendra Little you look great with long hair!
Hi Kendra, just happened to see your channel. Do you have any sql books recommended for newbies into sql developer career? Thank you.
How to fix this huge number of rows
Hello, Can we do a partial stats update like 20% or 50% on a table, if yes then please help with command
Hi there. I have had an Alter Index Rebuild running for 6 hours. The database is online. The status of the Alter Index process is “suspended” with a wait type of LCK_M_SCH_M and it appears there are 100 or so other processes being blocked by the SPID of the Alter Index Rebuild. Is there a safe way to abort the Rebuild or should I wait till it finishes? I cant tell if its even doing anything. BTW the database is 30-40GB. Any advice/tips? I obviously know now I should have taken the db offline first.
Isolation levels and the problems they solve so so so simply explained. I wished I can give this video a hundred thumbs up. I couldn't understand the different scenarios that the various isolation levels prevent as explained in "Database System Concepts" by Abraham Silberschatz. After watching this video I totally get it.
That the data is not guaranteed to be right at all times is not so rare for entertainment stile applications. The number of likes on stuff on all of the big platforms is probably never right, especially for popular stuff. Who cares, users are happy with it.
All dbms violate the SQL92 standard. It clearly says "The isolation level of a SQL-transaction is SERIALIZABLE by default."
In the typical business application I have been working on, there are maybe 1-20 simultaneous users. What I DEFINITELY never want is for their transactions to interfere. What I can ABSOLUTELY tolerate is reduced performance. Why is the default of all databases to use an unsafe isolation level for the sake of performance, when I might not even have performance problems? When I learned ACID, of course I implicitly thought about what I now know is called SERIALIZABLE isolation between transactions. Now it turns out THIS IS NOT THE DEFAULT. I wonder how many incorrect transactions happen because of this every day...
time to bombard my bank with simultaneous transactions in the hopes of generating money out of thin air because of their lack of changing the isolation level...
This is such a great series on read committed isolation level. Thank you very much. I am planning on watching your other series about isolation levels as well.
Fantastic explanation 🎉
