Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider said the "getting lost trying to find the stage" thing happened to him, but after this movie came out. He got separated from the band - I think he had to run back and get something - and couldn't find his way. Finally, he saw the door marked STAGE ENTRANCE and ran out onto the stage, arms open, excited to perform... for nobody. It was empty. It turned out the place had two venues and he was at the wrong one. I can imagine how that would blow your mind. lol

Maybe someone said this already, but the Stonehenge bit actually happened to the band Black Sabbath during their 1983 tour, with one big difference: It was made too big. So big, it couldn't all fit on stage. Someone misinterpreted the idea of it being "life sized" and made it the size of the actual Stonehenge. Still... there was a dwarf. The band manager thought it would be a good idea to have a dwarf in a devil costume crawling around the top of the set, miming to a recording of a screaming baby (the album Born Again had a picture of a devil baby on the cover), and then after a while, the little guy falls off the back of the set, about 35ft, onto a mattress or something, much to the horror of the band as they started playing. Meanwhile, their new singer (formerly of Deep Purple) couldn't remember the song lyrics, so he had them laminated and placed on stage by his feet where he can turn to the next song with his foot. He couldn't see the lyrics because of the gallons of dry ice fogging up the stage.

Go watch the fat electrician he does a segment on his unit. He wasn't the only brave soldier on the field.

I saw Spinal Tap in concert in 1992. It was awesome. Nigel had a 30 foot high Marshall stack. That actual soundtrack album for the movie was also just a plain black cover. LOL

I enjoyed the reference to the "11" setting because "10" was SUCH a cliché, and had been since at least the 1960s. Finally, someone made The Reference and did so with an eloquence that all audiences understand. And made IT the new cliché.

Sometime listen to Patton Oswalt's stand up comedy about 80s Heavy Metal Bands.

Janine was basically a parody of Yoko Ono creating a rift between John Lennon and Paul McCartney within the Beatles.

Many of the ideas were taken from actual incidents of the 60's and 70's like rock stars choking on vomit, drummers dying, groups going through many different phases etc.

In the late 1980s, before I finally learned about the movie and saw it, I would see it in TV listings and think it was a documentary about a real band.

The fact that you've watched videos of musicians showing off their guitars was so extra for this reaction! The fact that you are familiar with the different styles of rock was so great! You know about The White Album and The Beatles and the different eras You were laughing at how they captured the different visual styles, like when the screen turned kaleidescopic! Your face, bursting into laughter, it's like a goal for the movie every time it happens! A few are well known musicians.... Danny Kortchmar (guitar)and Russ Kunkel (drums) are studio musicians who played with many top artists, and Paul Shortino was a singer for several hard rock bands.

You need to listen to some classic rock. Music from the 60s and 70s. Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Alan Parsons Project, Elvis Presley of course, Annie Lennox, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Carpenters, Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, Earth Wind and Fire, Electric Light Orchestra, The Animals, James Brown, The Moody Blues, The Righteous Brothers, The Rolling Stones. Just listen, even if just for yourself. Mind you if you do, please listen to the album versions for the music of the 70s, that is the age of the headphone, and the sound mixing is very important.

You have great taste in late ‘80s hair metal. Alice Cooper is more famous for his early ‘70s glam/theatrical rock shows, but he proved that he could put out metal that had a late ‘80s sound, yet it still felt like Alice. I’m guessing you already know late ‘80s metal staples like Motley Crue, Poison, and Bon Jovi, but others you might not include Lita Ford (“Kiss Me Deadly” is a banger), Scorpions, and Whitesnake (“Here I Go Again” might be the greatest hair metal power ballad ever). If you like driving guitar sounds, you should listen to classic Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple (which appear to be influences on Spinal Tap). Even the ‘90s had some righteous guitar music, e.g., “Man in the Box” by Alice and Chains and “Give It Away” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Since you mentioned Queen & Alice Cooper, have you seen " Wayne's World"? Both have something to do with that movie. Spinal Tap is a masterpiece in my opinion..

HAHA glad you really enjoyed the movie! The thing about that comment you mentioned in the beginning about not watching the movie . . . for some people in the music industry, some of the jokes are so on the nose and so accurate that they can almost hit a little close to home. That being said, I'm a musician and this is one of my favorite movies.

Rock on, Aria! I’m glad you got to have this experience with the most famous and successful band to ever be named Spinal Tap. 🤘 Funny that they were playing at a jazz-blues (or maybe more blues-jazz really) festival at the time of the incident, considering that literally exploding on stage is a decidedly very metal thing to have happen. To be fair, though, leaving behind nothing but a green globule is quite jazzy and bluesy.
