i like your concept and its nice to see someone actually testing out laser tag principles with an arduino I have a similar project going on at the moment however I don't store player names like that as such I have 2 arduino boards hooked up both with diodes and receivers it use's the principle of the infrared signal is only for the hit command and will send damage value and id number to each gun via IR the method I used is a SRF shield to communicate this information between guns and a laptop with serial to arduino to interpret information aswell as define rules in actual fact one of my ideas is that if I add a gps module to the arduino and send this data through the RF then I could have google maps show where players are inflict radiation damage and play sounds if they go out of the boundaries setup gamemodes and the like from the laptop and leave the light processing to the arduino's in the guns, not quite accomplished a good prototype with the guns still lacking basic functions but getting there.
