    After eight years restoration i finished my FZR 1000 build 90. Actually it's a new bike now. Beside the countless hours of work i spend about 7K € on the bike. Wouldn't do it again.

      Haha yeah there’s not a huge amount of ways to make the maths add up nicely. I think it really needs to be a sentimental project or particularly educational experience to make it worthwhile 👍🏻

    Hey Tom, thanks again for another great video! I noticed that the air filter you pulled out was dry. But the guy who sold me the '90 fzr told me it should be wet (the one currently on the bike is wet). I found a manual online that has the filter as "dry". What should I do?

      Hi mate, yeah I can’t imagine any reason a stock filter should be wet on these, unless it’s not a stock OEM one and is a performance filter like k&n etc, as they often require oiling.

      Nice! I’ve tried a few but not really found a favourite. The bikes have Putoline in them at the moment, but previously had Prestone with no issues.

      I’m trying to think back, as my new one doesn’t have a remote reservoir, but I remember the bracket mounting beneath the battery box I think. Possibly on the cross beam in the frame.

    So, the upper front fairing is held on by the mirror bolts and just two other bolts...? I saw you loosen one...but, not any other ones...? It would help me as I am removing my upper fairing... Thanks!

      Trying to think back, as it was a while ago 😂 I think it is just the two bolts and the mirror mounts. If you can see the two bolts, the fairing bracket comes off with the nose cone as one (just having to disconnect the loom connections)

    Tom, @3:23... You removed that center panel..! My 2000 ZX7 has tabs on the lower back part of that panel... You must have cut the tabs off...?

    Awesome work Tom! I have been watching your videos for a while now, and im always thrilled to see when you upload a new video, always very educational and interesting. I love your work and precision! I have a Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R 636c 2006 which is completely disassembled from a nasty accident and its waiting to be restored. I like that there are many similarities between the ZX7R and the ZX6R and you tought and showed me many things and prepare me for the awesome adventure im gonna have with my bike. And I think you also played a role inspiring me to make a CZcams channel for my project! Best regards from Germany! Keep up the awesome job! 💪

    I thought that the shims will need replacement after lapping of the valves? Since you take away material the measurements will be different right?

      Yeah that’s my thinking, which is why I didn’t bother checking them on the strip down, as I knew they’d all change after lapping, I’m hoping they’ll be some that can switch around, or that I already have in stock 🤞

      Haha good spot, I have done it but I did it once I put the camshafts back in for some reason so it’ll be in the next video 👍🏻

      No need, he is already going the extra mile. If it was a very high mileage engine then I would do that, but even on my 2000 ZX9r I didn't do half of this when I had the head off last year as it was only on 22k miles and well maintained. I did sort out the valve clearances though.

    Very detailed work, nicely done! I had a lot of used motorcycles over the years and this is how they should all be restored. I wouldn't have enough patience to do what you are doing but I am performing my own maintenance though. To me, the most important aspect on a motorcycle is for it to be able to start and carry me from A to B. Everything else is luxury :P I think I am a little bit stressed up by the number of cases where I was stranded and had to call the tow truck :D Waiting for the next video, Tom. Good luck!

      I know what you mean! I’ve had to rely on mine for transport to work some years ago, and it really was the bare minimum to keep them going, but now life’s at a different stage I can take my time to go deeper and learn some new skills 🤓

      @@HalfdeadRider Rectifier and battery blown at the same time on a CBR600F3 and they were brand new and not Chinese :P Tow truck was the only option, trust me :)
