I have a copy of this entire countdown that I purchased from the individual that owns the rights to it. It's awesome, but THIS audio is special in a way that can't be replicated. It was recorded off the radio as it aired in 1981. This was the era of great audio processing in radio as it was before record companies compressed all released music, which started in the early 2000s when mp3s became popular. But before then, released music had higher highs, lowers lows, and closer to the original material. Radio stations, to compensate for these hills and valleys, really turned up their over-the-air processing. Compression. Higher stereo separation. Hard limiting. And common in the 1980s, a slight reverb echo. This subconsciously made the station sound "louder", and also further increased stereo separation. The station broadcasting this countdown utilizes all of these tools. You can really hear the reverb effect when Casey Kasem is talking with no music behind his voice. This makes this broadcast even more of a time capsule; not only from the music itself, but from this great 1980s-era radio processing. I'd LOVE to hear the original broadcast from this station.

Wonderful documentary

I grew up watching Ozzie and Harriet and enjoyed watching Rick growing up and to watch him singing...I loved and enjoyed his music. I wish that I did not sell those 45's and 33 1/3 records. He left us waaayyy to soon. Rest In Peace Rick you are sadly missed.

One aspect of the crash was the plane's magnesium construction. It was a WWII era DC3 and many WWII DC3's were made with cheaper magnesium instead of aluminum. Magnesium is a flammable metal. Once it starts to burn it really goes. Does not take away from the music. Nothing ever will.

I was an instant fan of Rick Nelson, at 5 years old, when I snuck into my grandpa's den and put on the 45 rpm record of "Hello Mary Lou" back about 1962, and got an ass whoppin' for messin' with grandpa's record player, but it was worth it. I have always remained a fan and always will. I began playing his oldies in bar room gigs in the early 2000s and was surprized at the reactions of repeated requests to play them again... This man is legendary for sure!!! It is still a "CRYING SHAME" Rick, his lady friend, and band lost their lives in that horrible, tragic plane crash...May they all be resting in heavenly peace.

Myself being born in 57. As a young boy growing up watching him on the TV series. With my older brother and two older sisters. It was the coolest thing to watch him sing. And thinking he was first and foremost a musical entertainer. Second to the TV show. I always thought his mom and dad made him be in the family show. I don't know about anyone else but. I wished I could sing and be that good looking growing up. What a beautiful man. And you can see it runs in the family. Cherish you all 💞
