Upgrading 80% Gas Furnace to Hi Efficiency Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pump
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 7 měsíci
Switching from an 80% gas furnace to a high-efficiency heat pump can have several benefits. According to the Department of Energy, a heat pump can reduce your electricity use for heating by approximately 65% compared to electric resistance heating such as furnaces and baseboard heaters. High-efficiency heat pumps also dehumidify better than standard central air conditioners, resulting in less e...
DIY Mr. Cool Ductless Minisplit Diagnostic
zhlédnutí 218Před 9 měsíci
One of the main issues we encounter servicing DIY ductless Mini Splits is leaking refrigerant flares. In this particular case we found a small leak at the flare connections to the air handler, due to improper flaring practices. We also detected a large leak at the heat exchanger/indoor coil. This indoor coil likely developed a pin hole as a result of formicary corrosion caused by volatile organ...

Did ductwork not run to the whole house? Why the cassettes down below with the air handler in the attic?

It is interesting that you removed a working piece of equipment and replaced it. Instead, it might have been better to go parallel. Give the homeowner future options for when there is a power outage. Starting a compressor requires a lot more power than an 80% furnace for a temporary ERCOT problem.

Your points are all very valid thanks for commenting. In this particular case, the original equipment was operating during some very dusty final stages of construction and even during paint along with not so great installation practices. Unfortunately for this homeowner, his builder grade furnace with ac was pretty trashed. In regards to the electrical grid insecurities, you will be very surprised to learn that these specific heat pumps run of very low amp draws super mild starting amps which makes them perfect for back up generator or battery power during outages and other power events. Be sure to check out my channel, we have a video of a small generator powering one of the types system. Thanks for watching!

Excellent point for using a soft start on an HVAC system. Here in NY, I need 30+ amps (@240) to start my AC compressor. At next summers cleaning/system check, I am going to have a soft start installed on my unit. Hopefully, I can get that initial surge down to something reasonable. Ground sourced heat pumps here also need some type of soft start because some of the initial draws are over 100 amps. Sure it is temporary, but that would require a whole house genset to start it and it should be down to something that a battery back up system can start and run. Thank you. @@minisplitking

Hell yeah! Love those Mitsubishi ducted air handlers, when I started one up I was waiting at the thermostat for it to start but it was running the whole time 😂 you couldn’t even hear the air handler blower running on that thing. (Mitsubishi SVZ) amazing equipment and awesome work you did

Excuse the ignorant question, on a 240v do you add up the reading from the 2 legs-lines? It make sense to add both readings (amperage) and then calculate the wattage, I have an inverter mini split and I’m trying to figure out the wattage usage per hour, Thank you.
