TT 120 retesting the Farish 08
Someone said the diecast Farish body was helping the 08 pull the coaches last night so just to show the Farish 08 power without the die cast body I have redone the test.
Initially due to no body weight, the chassis was only on the rear wheels due to the coupling height pulling it down and still pulled 11 coaches.
Then, I fitted magnet couplings allowing the loco chassis to sit on the rail correctly and added 2 more coaches making 13.
At the end on full speed another coach was added making 14 in total, 15 dragged, so 14 it is which is far more than will be required.

TT 120 experimental Farish chassis
zhlédnutí 237Před 14 dny
This is an experiment of regauging a Farish N gauge chassis to 12mm. All that was done was to replace the axles with 1/16" brass wire and open the pick ups out a little. There is no way it is supposed to be a Jinty chassis as the wheelbase is obviously completely wrong, I just wanted to see if it was possible for a future project, which I think could work.

Great to see some Southern rolling stock Garry, very impressive. Are these 3D printed bodies?
@edhiggins4346 the unrebuilt loco with tender, and, the tender for the rebuilt loco are 3D prints from Shapeways. The rebuilt loco body is a heavily modified Corgi Britannia. I do also have a Q1 and USA dock tank which are Shapeways 3D prints. My Lord Nelson is a 3D print but from Lincoln-Locos.
Are there any DEMU’s like class 201’s in tt120.
@T4Van-E-daycamp not that I know of. At one one time SR bodies of various classes were available from Shapeways but since they ceased a couple of months ago no idea where you can get any.
More great work Garry 😁
@HighFell thanks Matt. That is it for now a warmer climate is calling.
Bravo! I've lost count of the number of N Gauge experts who have told me this cannot be done.
@user-lp9cr6lw6h at least you have seen it done now
Hornby announced a few days ago what other engines we want them to make. I’m really hoping they make an LNER W1, LNER B12, LNER J94, GWR 5700 Pannier, BR Class 04, BR Class 07, and both LNER P2s. These would definitely be a game changer for the TT:120 since we would have more 0-6-0s and we’ll be able to make more customs. Although I’ve been planning to make a 5700 and possibly an N2/N7 using a J50 chassis
@jxxgames do you mean they "asked" what we would like? I pesonally don't think the W1 and P2's would be big sellers yet but we all like to think what "we" like would be good. I would swap those for a B1 and Black 5. Hornby already have it in their pans for a 57xx and J94. I already have thoughts of an N2 from a J50 chassis as the wheelbase is correct, but the wheels are too small.
@@garryhall5552 Black Fives would actually be genius. Also I agree with you with the LNER W1s since their OO gauge ones were pretty flimsy with the win deflectors being very fragile and breaking easily. The P2s will definitely be a nice edition for a new for wheel configurations and could possibly make for great customs. But I would possibly also swap the P2s with a 9F since they’re really nice models and their OO models have sold nicely with their amazing details
@@jxxgames the P2's to be a little more popular might have to be the rebuilt unstreamlined version.
Good collection of locos. TT:120 is the ideal thing for those who have got more money than sense! It is a good job old Simon Kohler invented the Hornby version of it! Or else you'd still be collecting all that old Triang stuff! Thanks for uploading.
@@AllensTrains what do you mean "more money than sense"?
The whole point of TT:120 is it’s not manufacturer invention, it’s a true scale unlike any RTR scale in UK; N, OO or O are all incorrect. 1:120 is the correct TT scale as used across rest of the world. Garry has created an impressive range through traditional modelling skills, most of these don’t exist as RTR models.
@@HighFell thanks Matt.
@@garryhall5552 This is a caveat that applies to any collector of model trains, including myself!
@AllensTrains right, it is just some people have used it in a different and impolite way towards me.
The era 5 ones? How do they run compared to LMS and era4's?
@timallen_uk the two brakes coupled together (same number) are beautiful runners like most of the blood and custard ones. The other 4 (brake has different number) have a very, very slight scrape but nothing like the LMS. It is so little they run very free and it is not noticeable on the main layout. I am not even going to bother touching these.
My brake 3rd in BR Maroon runs a treat but my 50’ full brakes in early & late run well too. I like the roof detail on these as well as the variety over the MK1’s. These make great local service trains on High Fell 😁
@HighFell I actually like these better than the Mk1s and as you say the roof detail is excellent. I just want Hornby to do Stanier Kitchen and Dining cars now but a good guess says that will be a long long time off.
Great video love the 52 👍🏼
@@darrenfawkner2018 thank you.
Ey the bogie frames make yoyr diesels look so much better, only complaint is lack of fuel/water tanks. Any idea when we'll see the class 40 at all?
@lukeslocos6610 If I cannot find any spare fuel tanks then there are two people who do 3d prints of them. The Halling bogies for the 40 should be here this week so might start it but going on holiday at the end of the week so it could be a while yet.
Stellar stuff there! Looks like it'd fit one of my models very well - which locomotive did you borrow the chassis from?
@MoonlitLab I have no idea which loco the chassis came from it has been in my possession since I dabbled in N in the 90's. What are you looking at using it for?
@@garryhall5552 I bought a small tank engine kit from Sparkshot - where you got your Baltic tank. Ideally I'm looking for something about the size of a J94 or a terrier.
@MoonlitLab for something like that, this would probably suit it being a short wheelbase.
@@garryhall5552 Awesome! Do you know which class of locomotive the chassis you used comes from?
@MoonlitLab no sorry, it is from when I did some N gauge in the 90's and cannot remember. It could possibly have been just a chassis bought as I used to scratch build bodies to fit Farish chassis''s, similar I suppose to now with 3D bodies on Hornby chassis's.
Hi Garry, I've always wondered - is your track a mixture of Peco HOm and TT:120? Excellent work on this and the baby Deltic too!
@MikeTT120 thanks for the comment Mike. Regarding the track, all original track, which is the lower level, is Peco H0m and was modified for Triang TT loco use. The modern Hornby still run very well on it so where possible (future portable layout) I will continue to use it. The upper level, when I get around to it, is mainly Hornby 120 as I needed the set curves as too tight to do properly with flexible. However, the station area and pointwork will be Peco H0m still.
@@garryhall5552I think the wider spacing of the sleepers with HOm really suits TT:120. Not sure if it’s more or less realistic compared to Peco/Hornby TT track though?
@MikeTT120 scale/accuracy has never bothered me and, in my own view the Hornby/Peco sleepers looks too close together. Plus, it is easier to ballast lol.
Nice build Garry, she runs very well
@HighFell thanks Matt, just hope it is not too long before the nameplates are made for this and the Scot. Doug at Silver Tay said he has been very busy with the names already done, which is a good thing really.

super pretty super fun
Nice and great to see out and about.
Runs great and looks superb. Medium sized tank engine is hopefully not too far away for those of us less talented on the engine builds 😁
Thanks Matt, when I was asked at one of the shows Hornby were at what loco would I like to see I did say "any, I don't mind but what would be nice is the 00 2-6-0 you have just released, or, standard 4 tank". Don't think my one view will make it happen though.
@@garryhall5552 I think the standard class locos would be a great place to extend the steam range. BR late steam is popular and standard classes were everywhere. A nice 4MT would be perfect for almost any layout
@@HighFell they certainly would. Just seen today that Lincoln Locos do the 2-6-0 3mt and I would love one. Alas at the moment no suitable chassis and doubt the J50 will fit. I want 77012 as it was a York engine and a photo I took of her won me a competition in the college photography class.
They both look great! Which colour you used for the blue duchess?
Thanks. The blue is Precision steam loco blue. I would have preferred to use a car spray like my A3 but it was impossible to mask everything so it is brush painted.
fun times
Absolutely mind blown by how well you've completed that SCC Sparkshot Baltic Tank. The standard of finish is second to non. So nice to see it running too. 😍
Thank you, it is a lovely 3d print too. Just washed and painted it, no sanding etc required.
Nice looking layout.
Thank you.
Is this a 3D print?
Yes both loco bodies are. From Lincoln-Locos.
You are just teasing me now Garry 🤣
Sorry Matt, I know you are wanting a 9F for High Fell so could not resist.
That’s going be a very useful loco 😁
Certainly unusual in any model scale and I am hoping to do it in Furness colours, similar to LMS.
Awesone job Garry. They look mega!
Thanks, just bought another 6 to do.
Thanks, just bought another 6 to do.
Glad you had a go. They start to look so much better weathered and the detail starts to come out 😁
Thanks Matt, just bought another 6 to do and 11 should be enough for now until the unfitted ones appear.
nice! the 9f is one of my favourite locos, I have a Hornby OO version, and I built the old airfix evening star kit as an everyday loco. a few years back I was at York railway museum, saw both the evening star and flying Scotsman which was in for servicing work, and if I'm honest I was more impressed by evening star (heresy, I know!)
That’s mighty impressive
Thanks, hopefully better when the chassis and wheels are black and cylinders raised. For Evening Star I need a double chimney of something. I had thought with a single chimney I might do black but the paintwork is too nice t paint over.
He's done it, set the bar higher with skills XD
Nice!
HOLY COW YOU MADE A DELTIC did you use one of the Class 60 or 43 chassises for that because there is no way that’s actually available
Omg is that Merchant Navy😭😭😭is that even available for TT:120. I was going to make a British layout with engines from all different counties as well from N gauge but wow TT:120 is like a mix of N and HO/OO gauge and that’s why I think it’s actually the best I just wish more companies like Bachmann joined in this is and also Hornby payed more attention to it
Definitely giving a sub
Are the other engines customs that aren’t the A3s and A4s?? If so they look very incredible
Yes, they are 3d printed bodies on Hornby chassis's. There are quite a few more now including West Country's (rebuilt and original), Standard 5, Royal Scot, 4-4-0, Q1 etc. Then Deltic, Peak, class 20, Co-Bo to name a few
Also B12, J39, Stanier 2-6-4, USA dock tank, J69. Warship, Hymek.
Does the Merchant Navy, Q1 Class, And Dock Tank all use the A3 chassis. Also for the first two, do they have custom wheels or do they wear the A3 wheels?
@@jxxgames both West Country's use the A1 chassis. The spam can has Triang TT style connecting rods. Both have the Hornby 6'8" wheels as there are no smaller ones available. Also, they are still spoked as I want to draw up some overlays one day. The Q1 and J39 have free wheeling Triang TT chassis's and powered with Halling motor bogies in the tender. The USA dock tank has a small 0-6-0 chassis from Oak Tree Engineering and fitted with part of the Hornby A1 valve gear. You should be able to use the search to find the videos or just scroll through. Some of the videos are before the locos were finished then some once completed.
Your weathering is looking pretty good, this video remind me how small the b12 tender is. Cant wait to see whats up next. :D
Thank you, I may do some more wagons but will not touch a loco or coach. Hopefully one of my next projects will be here this week and Lenny is not far off finishing another body for me.
All I will say is one will be pre grouping and the other ex LMS providing I can fit chassis's into them.
WTF are all these different models coming from? Are they prototypes or just one-offs?
@@PhilipHarding-ex8rg they are 3d printed bodies most of which are fitted onto a Hornby chassis. Anyone can buy a body and do one themselves.

Ey up there not too bad

Smashing work here Garry! You're giving the British TT market a run for their money, cracker stuff my friend :)
Very nice job, well done.
Thank you.
21 tonners are very good runners. caroline
Yes they are, like most of the stock. I have just removed the chassis from one to use on a horsebox body.
Good. Now, let's paint it.
It is painted and nearly fully lined now. It will be finished in a couple of hours apart from the nameplates which could be a while yet.
All running very smoothly. You were liucky Hornby decided to introduce TT:120, as this had given the scale a new lease of life! Thanks for uploading.
There are two ways of looking at it. It did not give the old TT a new lease of life due to the different scale so nothing compatible. However it has brought a new lease of life to 12mm track. What is has given me is the chance to run better looking train lengths, and, far more options coach wise. Locos are still limited but what there is, is fantastic in just 18 months. I am lucky I can do a few conversations but limited so far due to the steam locos available only having 6'8"/6'9" wheels.
@@garryhall5552 What is the limitation of 6'8" wheels?
@@AllensTrains there were only very few locos that used them, most had smaller wheels. My two tanks have them but should only be 5'8", the W/C, A2, V2, Britannia, Standard 5 etc should be 6' or 6'2" so it is a compromise anyway.
Ey the scot is looking brilliant, any chance of turbomotive, lack of valve gear and all that making it easier ?
I had thought about it but the cab is wrong as the spectacle plate should be flat like a Princess. Also the dome is in the wrong place and it needs a double chimney. So, unlikely unless I go for more compromises than normal lol. There are a couple more locos in the pipeline though.
Looks grand. Are you planning on weathering the 21T wagons?
@garryhall5552 yeah I understand, I mean couldn't you use the dutchess chasseur under a 120 princess body and as such turbomotive, I meant easier in fact there's no valve gear for faffing about with which you could use on a different locomotive.
@@gregmacdonald927 thanks Greg, I have thought about weathering the wagons but very poor at it in the past so always done a clean loco/coach/wagon. However, these do seem overly bright and really do need toning down so will be thinking about it.
@@lukeslocos6610 at the moment there is no Princess body available but the chassis I robbed the valve gear and tender chassis from is earmarked for a large tank depending the fit due to the large motor. I am hoping the motor will fit in the cab so at the highest point. The motor size and position do not leave this chassis open to many conversions.
Just got a 4mm one. They look great! Do you know how to open them in order to service the motor?
No idea, I do not do 4mm modelling, sorry.
Oh, Oh. A derailment!
No, it was to try to show the difference in size of the old TT 3mm against the new TT at 2.5mm.
Very nice running. Is your whole layout analogue?
Yes, I have no interest in DCC or sound.
@@garryhall5552 great. Do you wire different sections to different controllers then? Looks awesome by the way.
@@TaffsReWorx both circuits have independent controllers, some parts are switchable from one to the other like the double slip is off/outer/inner and the bay platforms switched from the double slip. Both platforms can operate from either to work wrong line to the crossovers. The goods yard has a separate controller but is switchable to the outer.
Looking good sir!
