  • @madelinebrennan7603

    I like this insight but I disagree a bit on the opening supposition that envy is rarely murderous. Maybe you're correct statistically when you think of men controlling their female partners in domestic violence situations but I'm also thinking of young (typically) males going on shooting sprees in schools, malls, churches, etc., and my guess is that under that overt display of hatred/rage is basic envy.

    My best understanding of the soul would have to come from Carlos Castaneda or the New Testament. Although we are all connected we are also individual beings of light, life, and energy. I used to beleive souls could retain their individuality posthumously, and possibly some souls might, but in my own case I reached a point in life where everything changed, so now I beleive my being (soul) will proably just disintegrate and evaporate into the Earth and atmosphere. All that will be left are the memories of who I was, retained for a period by living people who new me, and genetic material, but genetic material proably would not qualify as being a soul.

O exemplo de Abraao nao chega a me convencer.

    Thank you for the insightful video. While I'm uncertain about the reasons behind halting video production, one potential explanation could be a shortage of fresh topics to explore. If that is indeed the case, I would like to suggest some topics for consideration. Your series dissecting the thoughts of philosophers and psychologists, particularly those related to university, was captivating. I would appreciate delving deeper into the philosophies of Carl Rogers or perhaps exploring the realm of Carl Jung. Jung's concepts of the 'Self' and the Individuation process are intriguing and offer potential links to the spiritual dimension you often touch upon in your videos. However, I have yet to encounter content that delves as deeply into your perspective on these matters. This suggestion ties into my second proposal, which concerns meditation at an intermediate level. For individuals capable of meditating for extended periods, guidance on where to progress next would be invaluable. From personal experience, I have found myself gradually reaching a state of peace through meditation, only to later lose momentum and cease the practice altogether, before eventually returning to it in the future. Although this might be due to attachment to the ego suffering, I also suspect it may stem from a dearth of a guiding philosophy or compelling goal to imbue the discipline with value and direction. My perspective, rooted in atheism and unfulfilled by concepts such as Karma, leads me to believe that Jung's exploration of the 'self' may hold the answers I seek. In summary, my suggestions are as follows: further exploration of ideas from the same or similar thinkers in a series format, a deep dive (potentially as a series) into Jung's concept of the self and the individuation process, and guidance on meditation tailored for those who have already attained a certain proficiency. Once again, I am operating under the assumption that your cessation of video production stems from a lack of inspiration. I hope these suggestions align with your interests and prove valuable as you consider your next steps.

      Well, HS AB... thanks so much for the suggestions. Actually, a big part of why I haven't been making videos has to do with CZcams's decision (around half a year ago) to lard everyone's content with ad's... even content that isn't monetized. Personally, I've never monetized any of my content because I've always wanted to feel free to speak the truth as it appears to me, without being unduly influenced by the desire to make a fast buck. And I never wanted to subject my audience to some impertinent jackass who suddenly appears to deliver a sales-pitch, either. Basically, I wanted to be the only impertinent jackass who appears in my videos... ha ha. But I think I'm slowly coming around to the conclusion that I'm being too sensitive about all of that, and that people would be willing to endure CZcams's crass salesmanship, if the ideas are worthwhile. Anyhow... a few words about meditation. Yes, I think that most people's practice ebbs and flows over time. That's natural, and so I wouldn't be too discouraged by it. The real challenge is to be in the game, to develop your consciousness in whatever way you can. However, it also seems like you're reaching the level where the next task is to let meditative consciousness start to permeate the larger run of everyday life... where everyday tasks start to become meditative. In other words, maybe your next challenge is to let the divide that usually separates meditating and everyday life... dissolve away, at least a little bit. I've found that one good time to practice that is when you have to wait somewhere anyhow -- in traffic, in the supermarket, at the doctor's office, wherever. The trick, of course, is not to be overly willful or forceful about it... but to *allow* it to happen. But for most of us, that's easier said than done -- especially in the Western world (I'm not sure where you live... you don't seem to be American, because your English is too good... ha ha). Anyhow, thanks for your suggestions, and also for encouraging me. Gratitude. Eric D.

      @@ericdodson2644 Ha ha, you are absolutely right. I rely on ChatGPT to help me convey my points as accurately as possible since English is not my primary language. I completely agree that CZcams has been frustrating lately due to its rapidly changing policies. These recent shifts have altered the platform's dynamics, effectively transforming it into a money-making machine for the company. Nevertheless, ultimately, I concur with your sentiment that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Thank you for providing perspective and advice. Indeed, implementing these suggestions into my life may prove easier said than done, but I am committed to trying and evolving over time. and I'll keep on searching. Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for your comments and your videos in general. They have greatly assisted me in organizing my thoughts.

    In various videos, you touch upon an idea that I find perplexing. On one hand, there's Buddhism advocating for the path to eliminating craving, while on the other hand, there's the holistic view which acknowledges craving and attachment. What I've gathered from your videos (though I may have misunderstood) is the notion that we should bring our attachments under control. Personally, I lean towards embracing my desires and then dealing with the attachments that follow. However, I'm struggling to find a clear reference to better define this 'deal' aspect. What does it entail and what should I be striving to achieve? I would greatly appreciate it if you could explore this topic in a video

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644 Před 2 měsíci

      Wow, that's a great topic! That might just be enough to get me to start making videos again. Anyhow... just to give you an immediate response... I think you're on the right track when you talk about embracing your desires and then "dealing" with the attachments that follow. In my mind, that's a much better paradigm than trying to control our desires... which usually just leads to the paradox of being even more thoroughly ruled by what we're desperately trying to control. But you're also right to ask what "dealing" means within that context. First of all, I'd say that "dealing" has to do with becoming mindfully aware of our attachments, and being willing to *live through* them -- to feel them in their entirety, without rushing to change them into something else... to become thoroughly acquainted with their subtleties and their effects on our lives. Basically, the process of "living through" starts to look a lot like meditation itself... which in turn has to do with the process of wearing out our "obscurations" (as Buddhists like to say) by being repetitively aware of them over time. In that regard, the "dealing" has to do with cultivating the experience of a kind of exhaustion... becoming exhausted with our attachments... to run them to their bitter end... and to run ourselves to our own bitter end along with them. In that regard, the "striving" you're asking about has to do with consistently following the path that ultimately leads to the cessation of striving. But of course, actually doing that takes a fair amount of courage, as well as a willingness to endure a certain amount of discomfort along the way. Basically, it's not such an easy thing to die as a small being, especially when our world is constantly trying to drag us in the exact opposite direction. Anyhow, those are my immediate thoughts. Thanks once again for posing such an excellent question. Gratitude. Eric D.

    Why is nihilism accompanied by ugliness? Must it be pictured as evil?

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644 Před 2 měsíci

      Well, that's mostly just a matter of social custom. In other words, it seems ugly & evil mostly because that's how our world encourages us to see it. However, in its own right, it's inherently neither beautiful nor ugly, neither good nor evil. It simply is. As Shakespeare once said, "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." And so it is with nihilism.
