Curious how many of the North Shore state parks you've been to (there are 8)? Grand Portage is definitely one of the better ones, and I'm glad you got to make it all the way back to the other falls. The overlook halfway is probably the best in the whole state.

Excellent stuff! Albeight only so because it for some reason isn't inherently obvious behaviour to many people. I mean, these seven priciples can just as easy as not be implemented in a person's daily routines and not just when outside the reach of municipal renovation services. Just imagine that for a moment, huh? People like second nature and not a thought in their heads about it, throwing their garbage in garbage containers or putting it in their pockets or bags until they can empty it into an garbage container. Well, I'll keep hoping, and easier to maintain now I've watched this excellent piece of necessary instruction🙏 Just needs more subscribers to have the impact it deserves, and the natural world needs it to have. I'll do my little bit towards that end. Also a reflection. Since it, to so many people as is the case, it seems to be second nature and not a thought in their heads about it, either, to throw their garbage anywhere they happen to throw it once they they have garbage to throw - maybe it becomes a small token gesture by me if I volunteered to pick that garbage up and deposit it in the proper place on behalf of those people? I'v taken up doing that, anyway, nad have found it to be beneficial in a number of ways. Obviously to nature getting rid of at least that much plastic/aluminium wrappers and cigaretbuts, but also to me and m experience of experiencing how other people just throw these things in places where it will actively hurt the wildlife. So I recommend doing that to everyone who cares about this and is becoming frustrated with how little traction thiese obvious, obvious issues have to the vast majority of humankind. Can't get stranded on frustration and hopelessness, we simply need to change our ways on the collective level. And it starts with the individual because that's how the problem came into being in the first place: An individual throwing his or her candywrapper while walking in the forest and not thinking about it, like at all. It simply has to go. You'll enjoy your trekking adventures, I know, so I'm not going to tell you how I hope you will. Because nature is where it's all at if you just first notice and you very obviously already figured that know. So just #savesoil. And keep on building a #consciousplanet

I strictly adhere to "Leave no trace". It's called spore, evidence. This should be your everyday SOP, be the grey man! I only take a burner phone with me in the bush. Much of what your talking about is standard practices when behind enemy lines.

I've always thought that when I see garbage on the trail it was carried by the wind. But I guess it also depends on how many people travel on the trail and if its a popular day hiking spot as the amount of traffic seems to affect that too. I've been picking up trash as I hike because it's so distracting. I always bring a map and compass, I'm surprised that you never do bring a paper map on the trips that you and I have done.

We saw the eclipse in Ohio - only about 2 min of totality for us but still one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. Glad the trip ended on a high note for you!

Even though the trip didn't go as planned. It was still fun and the eclipse was awesome!

Those barefoot creek crossings cannot feel good. I guess that's better than people who 18:30 Those are blossoms on Eastern Redbud trees. They are one of the first trees to blossom in the spring here. Dogwoods bloom a little later with bigger white blossoms. 24:00 Eagle Rock Loop gets much more crowded as things warm up, and especially on the weekends. I was wondering if you would give up on barefoot wet crossings. When I do Eagle Rock Loop, I march through the wet crossings and keep on going. I think the reason the they haven't built bridges is because the Little Missouri floods so often and the bridges would need to be huge because the river spans such a wide distance. Forest Service doesn't have the funding for that. Personally, I kind of like the fact that they are wet crossings. Keeps it more rustic. They tried to build up the area around Little MO falls and the paved trail has almost all eroded away. They don't even have the funding to maintain what was already built, let alone building more. Thanks for sharing your adventure, Loki and I love Hercules Glades! Been there for a day hike and a one-nighter, both great experiences, but Long Creek was mostly dry for us. Sorry to hear about your migraine, that sucks big time. I've been throwing up sick once while out on a multi-day backpacking trip, and it was the worse, just wanted to get off trail asap. Good call to cut your trip a day short, safety and health come first!
