Beautiful song. My beloved Nonno was from Pula (now Pola Croatia). He was also against the Fascists. He was a simple farmer who belived in the cause but couldnt afford to fight, as he was a widower with 5 small children. He was dobbed in by his own brother, who was fighting for Mussolini. My Nonno was captured, and taken for Questioning... he was then taken to Dachau, then Mauthausen Concentration camps. Never to be seen again. My Mother can remember being woken in the middle of the night by a loud knock at the door, it was the neighbour who told them the Germans were comming and to Run! They all got up, the older ones getting the tiny ones out of bed and began running in the middle of the night. They didn't even have time to grab shoes. The townsfolk walked for days, untill an American army convoy picked them up and took them to a convent over the now italian/Croatian border. They never saw either their Father or their home again. It breaks my heart when i hear this song... the mountains and the flowers... my Late Mother spoke of them often. She remembered this song well. ❤

for those internationally that don't know, Turin is the site of one of the two factory councils set in the cities of Turin and Milan in Italy, they were equivalent to Russia's early Soviets like the one in Petrograd. Where workers conducted general strikes throughout the cities and armed takeovers the factories, peasants in the Padan plain also took part in the revolution employing general strikes and armed takeovers of the landlord's lands just as the workers took the bosses businesses. During the two years that this went on, the Italian government let the blackshirt fascist militias to do the capitalist bosses' and landlords' dirty work of stomping the Socialist and anti-fascist struggle in Italy from 1919 to 1920 right before their complete fascist takeover of Italy in 1922.
