Awesome animation especially back then. Fun show. I think it’s just overshadowed by its predecessor, the original Gaiking was hardcore with less flair but the fights were visceral, doesn’t mean this version is any less. Also the song kicks ass

I live in Japan. In Nakano, a couple stations from my house there's a mall with many retro anime stores. I've seen Gaiking models and figures, including huge ones.
None of the new mechas can be called super robots. Super robots answer to the fighting spirit, bravenes and the desire to protect. Most of them are even are fulled by the fighting spirit of the pilot even though they are all out of their main energy source.

作画崩壊では無くわざとです 動かすために線を緩くして書くのは昔からあるやり方だそうで 一年ものでロボットを滅茶苦茶に動かすのは大変だそうだ
