I live near Teds old camp and we would always hear rumors of different guests he had secretly visiting him for a week or so. people have even claimed to have seen Marilyn Monroe sitting on the rocks in the tall grass.it gave us river people something to talk about.he was a very humble man.

The movie Strategic Air Command is very similar to Ted Williams' life. A star baseball player who served in WWII is called up to fly in the Korean War. So, Ted Williams is one of the greatest hitters of all time, an honored Marine pilot, and a great fly fisherman. An amazing person.

The ERA was turned down in Florida in 1975--I believe this was done prior to 1981--more like 1975

Great video. If I could pick anyone to fish with it would be Ted Williams Not only a great Baseball player but A true american hero.Served his country as a Marine pilot missing his prime years as a ball player.Ive read just about every book ever written about Ted Williams and I have sense that tells me there is nothing he couldnt do.He kinda reminds me of a real life John Wayne.

    • @MartinPitts

+stratplayer53 : Ted always wanted John Wayne to play him in a Biographical movie. I'm sure John Wayne would have been honored to play the part of a real life war hero and baseball legend .

Martin Pitts I could'nt think of a better actor to be cast in the role of Ted Williams than John Wayne.I'm surprised that no one has ever done a Biographical movie of Ted Williams he led such an interesting life and was a unique character for sure

Thank you all for your compliments. For a couple of the questions: The film was shot over a two year period from 1973 - 1974 and released by Sears in 1974. The US Library of Congress has the film in it's archives. All Ted's fishing tackle was his own brand from Sears. Ted tied his own flies. The guy with the tie was a typical fly fisherman in Scotland... where the sport is considered "high art." As Director, a great inspiration for me was Robert Flaherty and his classic about Irish fishermen, "Man of Aran." Ted was indeed the greatest hitter who ever lived, and a great guy who I am in awe of to this day for his intellect and his heart.

Initially, I thought it was about a person who was odd being persecuted. The women at the end who seemed to develop an affinity for each other seemed a new (more uplifting) story. The music track is glorious. Wonder where this is shot, as the light has a dreamy quality.

I notice He's using a fiberglass rod, probably some Shakespeare prototype because I think He was a spokesperson for them. Does anybody know for sure, and possibly know what model it was? I think it's interesting, because he could afford the finest Bamboo rods out there at the time.

Shakespeare Wonderod. They didn't show the weight, but mine works great with an 8wt. line. 7wt. might be better. He probably wanted something better than a bamboo rod.

Thank you MartinPitts for posting this wonderful snapshot of the legendary Ted Williams, In his time, has was known as(and some still call him) the greatest hitter ever...he was also known as a world-class fisherman, so this is an Informative visual record of him as a fisherman. I would like to also note that the voice narrator for this series is the equally legendary John Facenda of NFL films fame, having his great voice narrating Ted fishing for me, makes this a better documentary. Thank you.
