Eddie was a guitar god in the flesh man. To think he was totally unprepared, was just fucking around demonstrating a technique and played like that off the top of his head, at age 60, 30-40 years past his prime, is incredible. I miss him to this day.

I don’t know why people expect great musical artists to be anything less than great people. I’ve worked with hundreds of them my entire adult life and can count on one hand the bad experiences I’ve had. Success and talent are a tremendous combination for anyone to have. Such people tend to be grateful, self-effacing, honest.

So, I was born and 99 and obviously was born wayyyy after Van Halen come out but I will never forget. I helped a lady with a yard sale and had found a copy of Van Halen (1978) on CD and one morning I was getting ready for school and had a CD player in the bathroom so I popped that CD in before getting in the shower and i will never forget hearing eruption coming on and stopping the shower and being absolutely mind blown. By that point in my life I had been playing guitar for what seemed like forever and was a huge blink 182 fan so my guitar playing was similar to that but when I heard the tapping portion, I knew at that point I was going to do whatever I could to emulate it. Today, I am in the military and a lot of what I have become and accomplished has been accomplished from the mentality and inspiration of Eddie. Words can’t explain how much the dude meant to me. RIP!!!!

He didnt invent tapping. Its been done since before electric guitar existed. It's okay to say he's the most recognized user of it and rock and roll even though other players who came after him have gotten better than even he was, but that's because that's how music evolves it started a long time ago on an acoustic guitar you don't need a electric guitar to do what he's doing. In fact classical players in the late 1870s were playing like that in spanish music.

Someone really has to make a movie about Eddie's life. - Nothing overly focused on the sex, drugs & rock 'n' roll (as fun as that stuff is)! - I'm talking about a movie that seriously & respectfully covers his journey from Holland to America, his mastry of the guitar, his ascent to the top of the rock world, all the way to his experiences as a father. (It could begin with him & his family getting on the boat & end with Wolfie playing tribute to him at the Taylor Hawkins show.) - Rather than a rockstar movie, it should be the story of a man who immigrated to America, made it to the top via his extreme talent & innovative spirit, and in spite of his demons, because an admirable father & taught generations how to love music & play it!

But if 97% agree on a narrative, you're screwed. No more debate.
