I had the incredible honor of being there live when this epic recording was made in the monastery church of Diessen, Germany. Before he began, Leonard Bernstein asked the audience not to applaud afterwards in order to respect the dignity of the place of worship. The audience followed this request and gave applause in the form of absolute silence - for more than ten minutes. It was one of the most magical moments in my whole life.

Το λιμπρέτο του Louis Fuzelier της όπερας αυτής, που παρουσιάστηκε το 1735 στο Παρίσι, είναι αλήθεια ότι με προβλημάτισε σαν διατύπωση του σκοπούμενου νοήματος. Είναι έξω από τους σύγχρονους τρόπους έκφρασης, τους οικείους σε εμάς. Αμιγές δείγμα του λογοτεχνικού μπαρόκ και σαν μουσική ακόμη ένα δείγμα της μουσικής ιδιοφυΐας του Rameau και της ικανότητάς του στην αρμονία της σύνθεσης. Θα έλεγα σήμα κατατεθέν της μπαρόκ όπερας μπαλέτο πριν ξεψυχήσει και πάρει την κάτω βόλτα μπρος στην επερχόμενη ιταλική όπερα του κλασικισμού. Bernstein's tempo choices vary with the acoustics of the concert space. He played quicker in drier halls.

You so right. The tempo is so emotional , the genius of Mozart connect to the genius of Bernstein the choose the perfect tempo to this part of the Requiem
It all depends to the acoustics. Listen to Karajan‘s last recording from the Berlin Philharmonic… it’s totally different but also awesome like heaven itself. There are many splendid readings of Mozart’s major masterwork.

Why "unnatural"? Who is to decide what is natural and what isn't? You are listening to this performance on CZcams. Rameau himself would probably call that unnatural as well.
@@j.vonhogen9650it is a bit strange and I'm sure he heard a plethora of performances which don't do that. Me personally, the performance is insane. But respect everyone's preference of interpretation
Vous avez raison. Cela relache le fil de la tension dramatique. Toutefois, je me demande si ces silences n'ont pas été rajoutés au montage tant ils me semblent excessifs, ne serait-ce que pour que cela atténue les écarts de prise de son entre les différents doubles ( qui ne sont pas issus de la même prise).
