Cape Cod Canal
Looking for an easy place to hike or ride your bikes with your kids? Why not try the Cape Cod Canal?
The Herring Run Recreation Area is easy to get to. Take the exit just before the Sagamore Bridge and head right. Follow the road a little was and you'll see the parking area on your left.
There are public restrooms here, picnic tables, and access to the service road/bike path that runs along the canal. You can walk/ride in either direction. Just keep track of how far you've gone because you'll have to turn back at some point and don't want to go too far.
For an easy 1-mile or so walk, head left towards the Sagamore Bridge. We walked up to the bridge and back and it was just right for us.
Some tips:
1. Pack a picnic and eat it at the picnic tables
2. Wear sunscreen! There's NO shade!
3. Best to go early morning or evening. Avoid the heat of midday.
4. Bring bikes if you can, the path is paved and relatively flat.
After our bike ride, we headed down the canal to Bourne where there is a splash pad and playground right by the railroad bridge.
If you're looking for ice cream nearby, we recommend The Shipwreck in Sandwich. It's over the bridge, but not too far and well worth it.
Ok, here's our official PINT score rating:
P - parking & access - 5 (plenty of parking)
I - interest level - 3 (trail is paved and flat. Other than the boats, not much to see)
N - navigation - 5 (you can't get lost)
T - terrain - 5 (trail is paved and flat)
Have you been here before? If so, what's your favorite part?
Or what did we miss? Let us know in the comments!

It's a novelty, fun, and worth the money. The view of the bay area is great. Just be mindful, if you do go, take the shorter route first, get use to the pedaling and the effort it takes to move the heavy pedal car and some of the inclines. Use the 20 minute rest area to regroup and catch your breath, especially if you're not use to a little bit of a physical work out.

I grew up on Torrey St in the 70's and 80's and we were in those woods all the time. As kids, we'd go exploring in there and pretend we were pioneers discovering new land! We even built a tree house on the trail that leads to the stone wall. As teenagers, we used sneak alcohol from our parent's liquor cabinets, build a camp fire at the stone wall and hang out and drink back there. I've wondered if other kids ever discovered the trails after we grew up and left and it's so nice to see what has been done with it. I wish I still lived in the area so I could take a trip down memory lane. Thanks so much for sharing this video!

Copicut club members indeed! Did you guys see the stone bench? The bioreserve that copicut woods is part of is huge. Bigger than the city of fall river! Im a fall river local and have been hiking there for decades. I still prefer sneakers to boots but keep dry sox and dry sneeks in car post hike... Once hiking boots get wet they take forever to dry and get very heavy. Im not into hilking poles, walking sticks but when crossing those wet areas of trail they help alot with balance. From same parking lot there are trails going west toward fall river or better yet park on blossom road and the trails are mostly gated fire roads. Very wide unused country roads. One going thru a deep dark scary swamp where the path is made up of roots w no dirt in spots. Kids might like that one..
