Benton, who wrote the song, released it as the b-side of a single in 1970 and it also appeared the same year on his album "Home Style" on the Cotillion label. Tony Joe White wrote this song in 1969. Brook did his cover of this great song as so many others did.
I was in 9th grade when this sang was released. I used to pull the covers over my head and listen to my transistor radio low so mom couldn't hear. When this song came on, as young as I was, it dug deep in my soul and has stayed there for more than 50 years. It's still in the playlists I made for myself and when it shuffles up I'm instantly transported back to my young self. Timeless song.

A 25 year old John can really sing like no other ballad singer back then in 1960. His appearances on Ed Sullivan really helped to make him a worldwide sensation. Now in 2023 he can still sing many of his big hits, and command a devoted fan base even 68 years later.
Beautiful song sung by a master vocalist. His smooth deep voice is full of raw emotion!! Just the best!! Thank you Brook, gone from the world but his wonderful music will live forever!!
