Sex With Deleuze: A Poststructuralist Approach to Sexuality and Sex Education with Justin Hancock
How do we decentre conceptual hierarchies in our emotional and sexual lives? How can we practice new forms of relationships and modes of connection? Could we relate to our body as a sexual becoming before it is a sexual object? We're joined by RSE educator and host of the Culture Sex Relationships podcast Justin Hancock to discuss the ways in which the Deleuze and Guattari help him to navigate these questions through his work over at his consultancy at his site BISH training.

New Deleuze and Foucault Reading Groups Begin in August 2023
I like what was said about how we don't really appreciate what we have so we do the Seinfeldian thing of assuming the opposite is the way to go. We need to look at our lives in a glass half full kind of way. Taking stock of what we have and utilizing our talents. I like that because I have in the past few years had sunk into that mindset that I needed a line of flight and get away from where I am because it seemed like all was crap. I woke up today with a bit more positivity though strangely then watched this. Strange coincidence.
Is that a real picture of Deleuze?
It is.
@@AcidHorizon Looking like a smooth pimp daddy. lol
I've listened to this three times now, utterly magnificent! Thomas Nail and Jason Mohaghegh are the two thinkers that flow/fold/field with my becomings😊 They have different oeuvre's, but it is a real buzz to listen/read both thinkers.

I so badly want to know what was cut at 22:34 out of morbid curiosity
Let us start by saying that the Left Intelligentsia and it's opponents have a shared devotion, for Capitalism and Empire. “The intelligentsia is a status” (Wikipedia). Intelligentsia can be decoupled from individual characters, and instead understood as a global cultural apparatus. One that is lead by a class composed of university-educated people of any given society, who engage in the complex mental labors, by which they critique, reshape, rethink, influence and cause change. By all means the knowledge industry is one of quantum value as well as influential soft power. Be it within the specter of politics, social justice, international relations, economics, identity, race or production of mass culture, it is clear that global Intelligentsia exerts major influence, injecting radical new ideas and possibilities, aimed at common people. Especially at the young, the disenfranchised and the marginalized. Mobilize masses to resist and identify, using radical ideas and theories, yet which actually do not combat or dismantle the actual concentration of power. The emancipatory role and image aside, there exists a legacy and institutional framework, between the Intelligentsia and the imperialist ruling class. The following story is an inquiry to uncover and understand, how the Intelligentsia and the Empire collude, to radicalize and divide people using devious forms of essentialism. Question being, Was Mark Fisher also part of the same wicked Left Intelligentsia.
Took a class this semester and it pretty much addressed most of the conversations brought out in this episode. Hardt and Negri's chapter in Empire addresses these forms of love. I also suggest anyone read Lugones and Lorde on love, because it is incredibly relevant and helpful works from women of color that have a super expansive view of love/anger/emotion/and politics.
could you maybe link me to those texts or the syllabus from the class you mentioned? thank you very much
I agree that this was one of the best well-articulated episodes where the transition from one to the other in speech would contribute to the conversation and clarify or enhance the other's argument.

Be artists together instead of being a capitalist or even expressing your living, excess, desire, memory in the capitalist realm. Participating with the objects produced is being an artist. Be in - formed.by art rather than informed by art commodities.
this is a visually fun way to learn more about post-modern philosophy... However it is way better to listen to Giorgio Agamben directly also.
Super interesting stuff. Thank you for this. Would be interested in hearing what your takes are on Deleuze and theatre (as the specific form of art)! Thinking of Beckett's Catastrophe in relation to this podcast episode, and Deleuze's response to Beckett's work. Solidarity from Cambridge UK.

Well explained

"we offer a critique of Agamben’s take on the coronavirus crisis, which bears alarming similarities to right-wing conspiracy theories" Florian Pistrol and Melanie Mayerhofer. "Towards a Biopolitics of the People. From Arendt to Agamben and Back Again." 2021.
Great show again guys, pity most of western governments are working for and following the propaganda set out in “The diplomatic documents of the elders of AIPAC” whose financiers are obviously funding them, please remember “Christ Is Lord” and what our saviour did in Matthew 21:12-13. It is sad that western governments have now become servants of a foreign land (AIPAC) and forgotten that “Christ is lord” and not AIPAC financiers. Judgment day is coming and orthodoxy may save you if you follow Christ and see him as your saviour and not AIPAC.
Sorry what did the guest mean "Zizek is there to defend the imperialism of communist countries like Russia." Is there a consensus I'm not aware of within philosophy? How is Russia communist?

Great discussion! I'm curious about the claim about the public never being oppressive. I'm thinking about how Fred Moten and Stefano Harney make use of what they call the Undercommons in their work on Black Studies and Fugitive Planning to escape the pattern of communities trying to universalize themselves as THE public, and to instead emphasize the possibilities for participatory practices of fugitive planning "study" as an Undercommon Nomadology of embracing alienation together
To the point about the statement “I am the king” containing its own alienation: the name “Sargon” (ruler of the first historical empire) literally means “the legitimate king” in Akkadian. Not surprising since he actually usurped his predecessor lol.
You feel alienated from the part of professor? Which part? You seem to embrace the intellectual aspect of it, but what about the teaching aspect?
Do you have a philosophy of eating animals and how that ties in to exploitation in general... "bodies cut up on the factory floor". Do we need to remove ourselves from the role of exploiter in order to be morally consistent? The lack of empathy and sadism and consumption of the life force of others... it doesn't exist in a vacuum . Human-centeredness has to be outgrown. Let us move beyond speciesism. Liberation for those who seem vastly different from us but are actually vastly similar in the grand scheme of the cosmos. We all have similar organs. (did you know that humans have anal glands just like dogs and they exude scents just like dogs!?) We are animals. We are not more significant than the animals we share the earth with.. if we a can let that go we can be freer... and empathy can set us free.
Legendary episode. Brilliant journey into the BwO.
We are all alienated, but have we ever been otherwise?
Can't not be!

I would love to see if someone from a community that engages in potlatch if Bataille got any of it right lol. Could be similar to his deal with Gnostics, but there are living descendent communities still engaging in potlatch stuff.

So much insightful! For Bergson, "an image is a movement, a process, ... ." I have not yet listened to the entire video carefully, but it seems to me that Bergsonian image very well corresponds to Whiteheadian feeling or concrescence...
yes!
Great insight there with regard to James Hillman @ 11:34 and the whole issue of how parts of the experience are lost in the void of repression, great video hope there is a part 2
nearly everyone in the USA falls under the "hikikomori" label now. I live in a huge city and I am always seeing the same 10-20 people outside
Is this really the opposite of Stirner tho? I don't think ir is. For Stirner, the definition of the sacred is something we are separated from, something which I am not, which I hold no power or right over but am instead subjected to, it's something I am distanced from. Here the Dionysian sacred seems to me to be the opposite, it's an intimate sacredness of everything. I am sacred, as my flesh is sacred, I am God in my baseness. In both cases, as Stirner clearly states, the "I" does not refer to a higher metaphysical construct or the conscious individual self or the soul, but to the base, chaotic, self-devouring creative nothing. I don't know enough about Bataille to equate them, but I don't see any fundamental opposition here.
Ineffectual communist larpers: The Podcast. It’s ironic people like this seem to have contempt for the modern world, which is the only one they could ever have existed in.
better to buck up and conform, right?
