    34 ohms is good?

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 9 dny

      Hi, a standard glow plugs should be around 1 to 6 ohms. A 34 ohm glow plug may work, but it could be on the way out? Newer type fancy glow plugs may be 1 ohm or less. It doesn't make it easy, when trying to check if yours is OK... If you know the make of the glow plug, you may be able to look at a data sheet for your glow plug on the manufacturer's website. This may tell you the specification and what the measurements should be. Have a look here: do-it-up.com/vehicles/engine-transmission/diesel-wont-start-when-cold-how-to-fix-glow-plugs/#Typical-Glow-Plug-Resistance-Values for more information. I hope this helps and you get it fixed soon... 😀

Once you get the window open, you may not be able to shut it straight away. So, you may have to take some parts off, or reset it manually to be able to close the window. But, you may have to go through the same process (in the video) to get it open again. Cool. Thanks. In the last time i repeatedly ran into sparks flying from the brushes and very low power or not running at all. This could not be solved by swapping the brushes. Could you please elaborate more on how to deal with brushes and, how is it called, commutators? For example - how do i clean them, may i use sandpaper? - do i have to burn in the new brushes so they sit firmly on the commutators?

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před měsícem

      Hi, If the brushes are OK, check and clean the commutator as follows: - Clean with a soft cloth or tissue. - If needed, use an eraser to see if any more dirt can be removed. - If there are score marks, or the commutator is still dirty. Use a fine abrasive or scourer. Try to remove as little of the commutator surface as possible. Unless there are any marks that will increase the brush wear, then an attempt should be made to smooth them out. - The gaps between each of the commutator segments, should be checked to ensure they are free from any conductive material. Otherwise a short could occur. Check the brushes have a good electrical connection to the wiring, as the electrical connections could fail. I.e. the brush to the brush housing, the brush housing to the wiring, etc. The brushes should not need bedding in. The rotation and use of the motor should do it for you. The low power and sparking could be due to the motor coil(s) breaking down under load. Check their resistance if you can. They may seem fine on testing, but could then break down under load, making it difficult to spot. I hope this helps in some way... 😀

    Great. But what do you do once it's opened? You can't close it again

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před měsícem

      Hi, it depends on the fault. You need to check the operation of the window handle and it's locking mechanism. If any of it's not working, the window may not be able to be closed, or it could fail again on opening. If this is the case, you can often remove the faulty part and still open and close the window (without it failing) whilst you await parts. However, you may need access to the window from the outside to safely remove the defective part(s)? There is some more info here: do-it-up.com/house/windows/how-to-open-a-jammed-stuck-or-seized-upvc-window/#repairing. Dependant on how easy it was to open (and the fault), you can often close the window after manually resetting the failed parts, (sliding them into the open position), and reopen the window using the method in the video, (when you have the new parts). Please be careful, it's very easy to fall out of an open window. I hope you get it fixed soon... 😃

      Hi, it sounds like you did all the right things to get the glow plugs out. When you replace them, don't over tighten as they could break, or they could be difficult to remove again later on, (make sure you tighten them to the correct torque). The torque value is often on the glow plug packaging. I had to hold the allen key in a pair of vice grips, and then gently tap them with a hammer, but it worked like a charm. The shoot bolt mechanism seems to have come adrift from the handle on that side, so I have a bit more work to do, but the window is now opening, and will lock in the latched ajar position without jamming again. Hi, I'm not sure what you can do here, but here's some thoughts. I presuming you don't have access to the outside of the window due to the height off the ground? - Can the glass be removed from the inside, would that give you access? - Are you able to look at another window with the same mechanism (that works). You may be able to work out a way to open it (with it open) and practice a method? Please be careful, as it's very easy to fall out of an open window. This may not have helped much, but it may give you some ideas? If you get the window open and have some useful tips, please share as it might help others. I hope you get it open soon... 🤔

      @doitup Před měsícem

      Hi, the spelling is correct! It just depends on where you live... In the text below the video, I tried to use both tyre and tire. You won't believe how much aggravation using different spellings can cause, (when in reality, it doesn't really matter). I tried a humorous reply once, using the song 'Let's Call the Whole Thing Off' by changing the lyrics. you say fender, we say bumper... But that went down like a lead balloon! Most differences appear to be down to using different letters, or shortening the original word. Apparently, Webster's 'An American Dictionary of the English Language' 1828 was responsible for many of the changes. Nothing in life is ever simple... Words can be a pleasure, dangerous, paint a picture, be misinterpreted, loved and abused. But that's another story... Please don't call the whole thing off... 😄👍

    • @doitup

      Hi, if you mean the accoustic cover over the top of the engine, they can be push on and off. But they can also be held on with clips and screws. Sometimes they can be made of several parts, (where you have to remove part of the cover to reveal more clips or screws underneath). The best way is to slowly work around the cover, identifying where the most resistance and try and fathom out how it's fixed. If you mean the connections on top of the glow plugs, they may just be pull off. They could also have a release mechanism where you compress part of the connector to release. Unfortunately, each manufacturer may have their own method of release, and this may change depending on the vehicle model and its age? Use Google to see if anyone demonstrates how, when carrying out similar tasks with the same type of vehicle... I've probably not helped you much here, but it may have pointed you in the right direction? I hope you get it fixed soon... 😃

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 2 měsíci

      It certainly was... It took me about 5 days to extract one injector. I had to keep walking away in despair and coming back to it. I even made a bespoke tool to jack the injector out, but would it budge... Perseverance got the injector out in the end. Moral of the storey... Always clean the seats and use new copper washers on replacing the injectors. Don't go, "oh, they look pretty good" and put them back as they were... 😕 You were spot on. Thanks for your reply, it's much appreciated... 😄👍

    I use a battery charger to test its so easy

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, it's a great idea, but... You could damage your battery charger? Most 12v battery chargers have an output of between 2 & 10 Amps. If you have a 2A battery charger, then things might get a bit warm. A quick explanation follows... As an example, one 12v glow plug with a resistance of 1 ohm would draw about 12A, ( I = V/R ). I.e, 12v/1 Ohm = 12A. This isn't exact, as the resistance will change as the glow plug heats up, but it gives a rough idea. If you have a battery charger with a 10A output, you would probably be OK. So, It's a great idea, 👍 but you should check the output of the battery charger before you try... Just in case. As usual, at your own risk. Hope this helps... 😃

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, I could see the method would work if I had a different jack. On mine, the wood on the top would just slip, as the jack arm went up. Other jacks are sometimes shaped differently and you can place the wood without it slipping off... Having said that, the last method I used was so easy for me. I'm glad it worked for you. It meant you got the job done and didn't have to spend time looking for another way, like I did... 😄👍

Its big gap 😫 Could it be due to the original screws, as mine are universal ,

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 2 měsíci

      Hi. As far as I can remember the headlight fixing's can be adjusted, so that you can position the headlight. See the video at: 3:59. There is a locking torx screw. This can be loosened and the headlight fixing can be slid from side to side. You may need to adjust all of them to ensure headlight fits correctly within the hood. Always close the hood slowly and carefully when adjusting the headlights to ensure a good fit. You don't want to break anything by dropping the hood shut. Hope this helps and you get it fixed soon... 😃

    What time should it be for glow plugs warm up and what number of omhs would be correct?

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, the warm up time can vary depending on the vehicle and its design... Generally, it should be around 10 to 20 seconds. Some fancy modern electronics, may vary the warm up time in some cases? Resistance - For a standard glow plug, the resistance should be 1 to 6 ohms. There is an illustration of resistance values here: czcams.com/video/nFrvzstFqwE/video.html. However, the values may be more specific for some glow plugs and more modern vehicles. If you know the make and reference number of the glow plug, you can sometimes look up the specific details on the manufacturers website. It should also be noted that the voltage to the actual glow plugs may be different in more modern vehicles, (not 12 volts). So it may be worth looking this up on the manufacturers website if you can... Hope this helps... 😃

    You can check them quickly and easily before even removing them with just the spanner to undo the nut holding the wire

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, yes, you're quite right. See the video here... Measure the Resistance (Still Fitted... czcams.com/video/_bxblpUIXpg/video.html. It should be noted that the resistance values of the glow plugs (when fitted), can be different to when they are measured (removed). This is because of the potential for additional resistance when measuring, (say between the tip of the glow plug and an earth point elsewhere). Measuring the resistance (when fitted) should still give a good indication if a glow plug is any good, but there may be occasions when it could give the wrong result? I.e. If a test shows the glow plug as OK, it should be fine. However if it shows bad, it's worth checking when the glow plug is removed just to make sure... There is a table of results here: czcams.com/video/nFrvzstFqwE/video.html that gives an illustration of the different results, (when fitted and removed). Thanks for your comment, it's great to have extra info that can help others... 😃

If you have another window with the same mechanism (on the ground floor), you can open it and see how the mechanism works. You may then be able to work out how you can fix it? To get the broken window shut, you may be able to gently tap the item out the way, that's stopping the window closing. You may need to move the window handle to the open position? As usual, at your own risk. Please be careful, it's very easy to fall out of a window! Sorry, I can't offer much more help... I hope you get it fixed soon... 🤔

    If glowplug is 5v and connect it directly 12v. What will happen to plug, burn out?

    • @doitup
      @doitup Před 5 měsíci

      Hi, there are more and more non 12v glow plugs being fitted now, (I presume it's because the electronics are getting a bit more fancy). As it's a 5v glow plug, I wouldn't test them directly from the battery with 12v, (the 5v will be supplied from the glow plug control unit). What I would do, is test them as shown at: czcams.com/video/YkKsbRHHNS8/video.html (Test No.3 at position 7:19). This is where you can test the glow plugs when removed, but plugged into their connector, (so you can see if they glow & test the length of the timer operation). Don't heat them too many times, as they could overheat whilst out of the engine. Hope this helps... 😃
