The first time I heard this song 🎵 was about 8 or 9 years ago and it blew me away. My husband wanted me to hear it at 6am while he was getting ready for work. It's now 2023 and it's wonderful to see this video.

America was the first concert I went to at Pershing in Lincoln, NE. Ticket was $4.99. Fell in Love with this Band. Still have all my albums.....need a turn table. Last time I saw them was in the late 80's at the Nebraska State Fair. Would love to see them again.

When they originally recorded the song in 1971 they only hired a drummer, Willie Leacox who is still with them. All the guitar and bass and piano work was done by Dan Gerry and Dewey. they were amazing for that time. By far some of the best acoustic guitar players in the world.

The lyrics are about the soldiers in Vietnam at the time the song was written. It talks about how the soldiers didn't sleep for days because they were on edge and got very little sleep. A great song. One of the first ones I learned on guitar.
