For over forty years I made my living putting actual roofs over people's heads (almost all of them WAY steeper than that almost-unnoticeable slope in Butler, PA some diversity-hire from DC was freaking out about), and in all that time rarely used any kind of safety equipment, and never got hurt. Step one in that objective was deciding not to get hurt. We laughed at the idea of hard hats and steel-toed boots and ropes dangling all over the place, and all that other useless nonsense for a trade practiced in shorts and sneakers, just because some ignorant bureaucrat convinced some insurance commissioner these things had something to do with working safely, as if any of them had a clue what work even means. As most of us also were hired not as employees but as off--the-books independents working mostly for cash (which is the main reason most of those folks buying those houses could even afford them in the first place), the Rule Number One about safety was: 'don't get hurt, because you'll be fired before you hit the ground.' So, in order to go home in one piece day after day for those forty years, I had to DECIDE not to get hurt, and never was. What a concept: deciding to be safe because it's in one's own interest and nobody else's business. If only those hiding in offices and calling it 'work', the ones who make stupid decisions day after day that people who actually earn their living have to live with, had the kind of resolve and nerve and self-reliance the men I worked with for those forty years always had, it would be a different kind of world. As it is, I only grant office people power to tell me what to do and not do, as seldom as I can arrange: those are the dangerous ones, and I want nothing to do with them. Give me people with dirty hands and a stubborn determination to get things done themselves, any time. The soft-handed functionaries who demand that all risk be mitigated in advance, when it comes to making decisions affecting others, are just in the way and are best ignored. Allowing them to run the world instead has been a huge mistake all along.

While Christians and Muslims argue with each other and within themselves about how to live, believe in God and spread their religion, Jews spread a much more practical idea - talk less, do more and never stop adapting. None of the scientists shouted that he was a Jew, but many of them are Jews anyway.
