Camping With Wild Brown Bears of Finland
zhlédnutí 765Před 14 dny
#camping #wildlifephotography #bushcraft I had a chance this summer to fulfill one of my dreams that I've had since I was a child, which was to photograph wild brown bears. Brown bears are a common species in Finland, with a population of a little bit over 2000 individuals in 2024. Still, they are extremely hard to see in the wild, even if you look for them. I photographed two bears on a hide n...

#bushcraft #camping #adventure I have wanted to do this for a long time now. It's always risky to bring gear on a paddleboard, not to mention cameras and backpacks. I paddled on to an island and spent night there. On my trip I encountered goshawks and an unidentified large land mammal. There were thousands of mosquitoes out there, but for some reason they didn't find me very tasty. Maybe they w...

How to Setup Salt Lick / Mineral Block for Moose and Deer
zhlédnutí 490Před 4 měsíci
#wildlifephotography #moose #wildlife Setting up a salt lick / mineral block for moose, elk, deer etc. is very simple, and has multiple ways to make it work, but the basics need to be done correctly. It needs to have a steady base and correct height. This one is mainly for elk/moose so it's about on my shoulder level, or a bit higher. I also added a plywood roof for making it last longer, becau...

      Yeah, even though grizzlys and european brown bears are technically the same species, Finnish brown bears are extremely scared of people, so much so that they don't even let you ever see them outside of a car or a hide.

    Does anyone else think that walking through the woods with the animal hide tied on behind the backpack might be a little unwise as a careless hunter could mistake him for a deer or other wildlife?

    • @nordicwildlife
      @nordicwildlife Před 4 měsíci

      To be honest, I am worried about that in the autumn animal hide or not. This time of the year it's not a hunting season and there's no chance for that. Pretty much each year a hiker, bicycler or fellow hunter is shot here in Finland by accident. I believe everyone has a right to enjoy outdoors and nature, and that means stealth campers and wildlife photographers as well. Not everyone wants to dress up in a orange jumpsuit and shout while moving in the forests.

    I got my hands on a M95 Ranger Puukko. It is a bit thick compared to the classic puukko but I like it. If I was going to get a less modern puukko I would want it to be full-tang because I am a fan of full tang knives (hidden tang knives really bother me).

I always keep my eye on any possibilities for one and if I spot a good one I try to remember it's location if I can't carry it with me.
