I was surprised and honored to take home 2nd place in the Georgia State Fiddlers Convention this year! There was a change in the schedule right before I played so I hadn't warmed up at all to play my arrangement, but despite the mistakes I was super thankful to win 2nd place!! Jeff Picker on bass really shines on this number but Ricky always surrounds himself with some of the best like Contreras and others.
I think the Wood, Clarke and Bourgeois all bring something of their own character. I like them all but the Clarke stood out ik relation to what i personally prefer.

Cool giveaway, Lucy. I will stay out of everyone's way for this one: I haven't needed to use any string suppression behind the bridge since I began replacing all tailpieces with a Bill James hinged one on any mandolins that weren't James equipped already. They all have a built-in string suppressor and lid closure combined in the two 'O' rings that serve both functions.They were designed that way.
Thanks for your comment Ben! I have a James tailpiece on this mandolin as well, but it doesn't mute it as much as one of these suppressors does. This mandolin has super loud overtones and I prefer more of the dry chop which is hard to get with the strings ringing so I've really liked using one of these, even with a James tailpiece. But I totally get what you're saying - stay tuned for future giveaways! 😃
