INSTRUCTIONS! Discard the jokers Deal out the full pack, face up into piles of 'ten'. Use the face value of the first card as a starting point. So if you deal a six you would then then count out four more cards (seven, eight, nine ten) to end up with a pile of five cards. If you deal a ten you don't add any more to that pile. All picture cards are also worth ten so if you deal a jack, queen or king you don't add any more. Go through the whole pack in this way. Any left in your hand without making up a pile of ten get discarded. Add to this discard pile all the piles with four or less cards in them. This discard pile can be shuffled if desired for effect. You now have several piles on the table- all with at least five cards in them. Turn these piles over and ask somebody to pick three of the piles. Add these other piles to the discard pile. Ask them to choose any two of the three piles and turn over the top card of those two piles. Add the face values of these two cards and deal out that number from the discard pile. Deal out a further 19 cards (the magic number). The number of cards left in the discard pile will ALWAYS (if you've done it right!) be the same as the face value of the top card in the third pile. The second version is the same principle but you are making piles of 'thirteen' and picture cards have the values normally assigned to them. So jack= 11, queen =12 and king=13. All the piles are used so you don't have to worry about finding the ones with 5 or less cards and the magic number is 10. Otherwise it's the same routine.
