My first Thru hike of AT cost $950 dollars, it was in 1981
1000 dollar AT thru hike? I gotta watch this. You are gonna be hating life when you get to expensive ass new england. Does that include resupplying? I hope you like hiker box oatmeal and pulverized pop tarts....
Wind is why you can see that horrible view lol.
Threw hike day 1 (thighs of thunder)
Look how gorgeous that is. That view is the reason why so many hike.
Please, for those of us that are native to these mystical, mysterious, and majestic mountains that we call home. It is called Appa-latch-un..... latch...latch.... not layshun.... LATCHin
Reishi are definitely better for tea lol. But... There's tons of edible mushrooms on the journey. I ate: golden chanterelles, smooth sided chanterelles, bog chanterelles (local name), black trumpets, oysters, chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, pheasant backs, tons of lobster mushrooms (!!!), lions mane, wood ears, and maybe a couple others I'm forgetting. There were definitely more than that that were edible, I just wasn't very in the know: russula's, TONS of boletes, ink caps, etc.
Getting comfortable with the uncomfortable is something most people are unwilling to do. What makes each of us uncomfortable can look a little different but there are threads we all share like the instilled desire for safety. This is the difference maker. If you can manage feeling a little bit unsafe (take on the unknown and risks), you create these ways to live differently that the safe folks become awe inspired by. Without lots of money, it takes sacrifice to live freely.
There’s some very striking similarities in our backgrounds...I grew up in group care homes & borstals, no adoption. I’ve been branded “emotionally retarded” my whole life (apart from anger) but always associated it with being clinically diagnosed as schizophrenic. I truly hope your journey into your emotions is cathartic & you gain nothing but release & a new found happiness sir. .Wish.
Just imagine if all the weeds that hitchhiked on peoples clothes were pulled and replaced with herbs, leafy greens and other garden plants that provided nutrition along the way and all towns had trails of mulch for safe pedestrian traffic even along cities and towns where we reside, creation nationwide trails interconntected by others that desire what we as a hiking community create everywhere we go!?
It's been a joy to watch your growth over the last couple years Quad. Your vulnerability is courageous and admirable. These videos are truly inspirational and always remind me to appreciate the present moment. I'll be doing the PCT next year so it's great getting some ideas for budget meal concoctions. Happy trails my friend
Thank you Tristan and Goodluck on the pct
Feel the feels, man. It's brave and courageous and manly of you to not only admit to yourself that you've been suppressing them for most of your life, but then to post it on your channel for everyone to see is incredibly brave and human. ❤
Thank you ❤️
I'm glad to see someone "keeping it real." Good luck out there🙏, and better weather.👍
im so tempted to sign up to try and make you yoyo
Dare you :p
@@QuadzillaHikes if you get to 249 i will
Are the guys hiking with you also doing low budget? Are they hiking the whole hike with you?
Pyro is broke so yes, 60 still wants to s spend as little as possible
That view is what I wake up and work in everyday. 😊
Great camp spot.
My 13 yr old grandson "Oden on the Trail " (future hiker/CZcamsr) Would love to hook you up with a resupply of his favorite backpacking food. Please contact us when you get near Boots Off and Watauga Lake if you're interested/ willing to meet him.. thanks, Nan
Sure you can email me from my website www.couchtotrail.com we'll be at boots off in 4 ish days
I watched your calendar year thru hike and thought, you were super human. I loved every minute of it. This time i am seeing a whole different side of you. You are so funny and appear to be having such a great time. I am truly loving every minute of it. Enjoy every second, and do whatever it takes to have fun! ❤
You definitely need more carbs than protein with all that movement your doing.
Carbs aren't an issue hiker food is all carbs, so you just need to be intentional about protein, otherwise you won't get enough, and this kind of slow aerobic work runs off of fat well too
This is quite hot!
Hows the gear holding up?
Great!
Those epic meat sticks are terrible
I can see why someone hiker boxd it
They always look so good too their marketing needs to match the product lol
Your videos inspire me hopefully can do this as well one day
For some reason the likes aren't showing on this particular video.
👍🐿👍
Super Mario got his immune system boosted by a mushroom. It's very scientific.
👍🐿👍
Looking for a good rain jacket to take hiking with me watch your opinion?
Enlightened equipment is good, frogg toggs are good for cheap
300 miles already? You make it look so easy.❤
Great video!!!!
Reishi is more for tea (as others have said. But- the white edges on very young reishi are soft enough to eat. Tastes nutty and great in stir fry or ramen. I love it!
I believe it is good to have a good cry
Dude you are killing me with the mushroom soup😅
Is that Wiz from Philly?
I think so
Nice!! Meet Wiz while hiking to shelter cove on my pct thru hike in 23.
Yes Reishi is edible, but like many other edible mushrooms you must cook them well! With Reishi you usually make a tea. You don’t actually eat it.
Superior view!
17:10 💯😊
Thanks for your openness with this. I think it is so brave to open up. When we experience trauma everything in our brains get hardwired not to have that experience again (ie the birth of unhealthy coping mechanisms like repression, etc.) Pieces of us get stuck in that moment of getting hurt and stay stuck until we heal. And we are not taught or encouraged in how to heal. I'm personally in trauma therapy at this time in my life and it is so hard and so exhausting, but everything is brighter too. I didn't know what actually *healing* felt like. Thought I had healed, but really I had just compartmentalized. After experiencing some healing I am blown away and in love with the human brain. So proud and excited for you. There is so much hard stuff coming, and so much more joy, wonder and self love than you ever could have imagined. The feeling of finally being safe enough with yourself to be able to feel your feelings is mind blowing. (Take all of this with a grain of salt, I do not know you, of course.) Cheers!
Really appreciate your words, they give me hope!! Goodluck on your own healing path
Without bringing pain and trauma to the surface we cannot deal and let go. We have to let go of our baggage in life to live life fully. None of us are perfect, don't seek perfection but our personal best at the time. Embrace and love yourself and others with all of their good things and faults.
Lots of rhododendron.
Would love to hook you up with some Trail Magic but not sure where you would be road crossing tomorrow.
Be crossing Spivey gap around 2pm today
@@QuadzillaHikes Dang! Sorry we missed you. We were hoping for Devil Fork or Sam’s Gap, but you must have gone further than we thought yesterday. Maybe when you come back through SOBO.😉
Nice one mate
Not chicken of the woods
Kinda looked like a shelf mushroom.
How beautiful, stay safe!
Enjoy your journey. Are you walking the whole trail. Be safe, my friend..
Yes I am!
Oh, cool. It's something you will remember for the rest of your life. Have fun.
Thank you!🙏
🚁
They say that nobody would run a marathon if they had to sign an NDA first. A lesser known fact is that nobody would run 290 marathons in a row if they had to sign 290 NDAs in a row first 😂
This is as dumb as sweeping rainwater off the flight deck of USS JFK in a rainstorm. Lol
Per AI, no how to prepare that mushroom - cut off woody parts, tough parts; slice thin, saute with oil and other stuff if you got it; you can boil it in a soup - maybe you should’ve cut into thin slices and then boil with other stuff, so it’s just adding to the meal rather than being the meal. Either way, props for foraging. A smart way to go to save money and add another dimension to your hike. Nice 👍
On Howard’s co.. I mean rock
