I'd say Volvos are more reliable and more sturdy than their German counterparts and the big advantage (for those of us who need it) with the big Volvo estates is the load space in the back.
I have the P3 S80 3.2 and it is bulletproof. 29mpg as well which is amazing!
there use to be a big racing scene for these in jamaca and they would put the 5e engine in and turbo it without putting low comp pistons or any engine mods in, they never open engines there untill they go pop, and they went very quick and beat the usual turbo glanzas all running the usual 240-270 bhp tunned
I was hoping to see more than you just talking about the cars. No shots of the dash, the engine, the boot, etc etc.
My mum is just about to get a 3rd generation V70, and I'm getting the old one (2001) who's done 260.000 miles (petrol engine). It's still running just fine! Great cars.
The car is very light, the acceleration is surprising despite the low power, it reminds me of the Suzuki Swift from the 90s with a 1.3l engine and about 800kg, it was a lot of fun.
I bought a 2008. S60 from the previous owner in Germany. He bought a new S60 in 2019. He said that the old one is better. He was disappointed with the new 4cl. Chinese volvos. After 5 years he still runs strong without a single issue. Amazing quality, equipment, comfort...
Recently bought a P2 V70 D5 2.4D diesel 163 hp with 300 000 km from 2006 with manual gears. So far so good, reliable, economical, comfortable, practicality with a lot of space inside... my 🐕🦺 definitely loves the trunk ! I hope to keep it running for many years to come. I can just take your words "this car is one of the best estate cars ever made"
2 is best
Gen 2 = P26 pure Volvo. Gen 3, half is ford parts.
Expected a lot more to be seen and compared in this video. Now we only see you talking behind the wheel.
And the most strange thing is they talk about the manufacture carbon footprint, it would be interesting to know !!!
Why am I watching 11.9 seconds to next year. Fucking why. Put a turbo and 6 speed box on it and do 5 seconds
Because you love it!!!
ENJOYED Every fraction of the video mate !! WooooooooooooooW..... Howz your standing on the Auto Red Rocket 1 though ?
Thanks!! Yes both of them have their own personalities 👌 still drive the auto most days, haven't done anything to the manual yet 🙄
Starlet ep 91..Best car ever made in terms of Reliability trough simplicity..i Bought one three years ago with some 188.000 k.m in very good clean original condition..tons of cheap spares around but probably wont need them ..Starlets are quick vivid engines and easy to maintain.easy to wash also due to sweet smooth curves on body..i think is a cute appearance also..I love it ...i was such an idiot that didthn buy one earlier ..i was a motorcyclist only..such an idioooooooot😂😂 All the best from Greece
My has 277 k miles and still runs I may replace the engine
Wanted to hear real information about both cars, but Got tired of listening guy’s childhood, ford escort (?!) and turned off
Just to correct you 1st gen was a vw diesel engine, 2nd gen is volvo d5 engine
Top cars, very reliable i remember my dad had one decades back... when did power steering get introduced on these... once again very impressive ❤
Not sure about the UK market but here in Ireland only the 1998 EP91 had power steering as standard it was an optional extra before that.
Not sure when the power steering was introduced, great cars though! Thanks for watching
Nice, but what about the quattro at the front? That is normally only on the C7,5 perforrmance, or have I misunderstood something.
Allright now this is personal and I gotta get into the 10s. Nice one btw!
Some day 🤞
I got 220k miles before my old girl second gen 2006 dropped a valve. I got the valves done and now is my daughter’s first car of which I bought when she was a baby. I have the third gen and I like her gen 2 better!!
I had a 2010 XC70 D5 AWD automatic the comfort was second to none.
my volvo v70 second gen has gone around 290k miles and is running perfectly fine, D5 185 hk 2007
I owned identical cars. What a strange coincidence. First one was manual and second one geartronic. The second one did 385.000 kms from new. I sold it due to some expensive repairs and still got a good price. My Volvo dealer changed hands and they weren’t interested in clients like me. I always paid cash and refused the leasing scam.
Is this a video about you or Volvo? Thumbs down. I dont give a fuck about your dad…
Very nice....I would love that here in Texas....😅 Stay safe, Tim
LOL! How much would something like this be in Texas....
@4:26 Good, solid, reliable cars are never outdated. 😉
i have an ep91 4efe, completely stock, im quite bored of its 75 hp. What mods are good to start off tuning it?
id personally swap to a 4efte and go on from there
Great vid, but when talking about maintenance costs you should also mention engine mounts, suspension issues (for both DRC and air suspension variants), oil strainer issues (for cars before 2017) and more. Many of those cars are with carbon ceramic brakes which cost A LOT more than steelies to replace. Also front rotor size is 390mm, not 330. Even the rears are 356mm :)
Need to google a bit harder, 390mm rotors on the front.
For interior and exterior I rpefer the second generation over the third. Somehow the design is better. These cars "age with beauty". They don't look fancy new but for me they don't look outdated either. The main focus is to feel comfortable. Turning headlights, blindspot warning system, speed limiter and a beutiful engine sound makes them simply amazing. The interior is of good quality and the engine reliable. Sometimes the electronics fail a little. In my case the ABS pump and the steering angle sensor on my S60 (technically nearly the same car). As A German I prefer these cars instead of their German counterparts of the time. Volvo is more reliable and has a better rust protection..
I think that the second generation had the best rust protection ever, with a thicker layer of zink than gen 3. There was a test made by some testing institute in Sweden (for a Swedish car magazine) that showed this.
Man that’s a pretty car !
Beautiful cars these are, Your red 1996 looks to be in sublime condition keep it up !
Thanks! It's not bad at all, rust free shell/body just suffering with the usual lacquer peel! New wheels going on next week though :)
Love my starlet, had it nearly 20 years, it's a boggo basic Sportif, not even got power steering fitted a 4efte back in 2007 then forged it a few years later. Pushing nearly 300bhp Check my channel for videos of it on track
This is awesome! I'll sub to your channel as well - I've ordered the wheels for this now so keep an eye out!
We have one - in light purple metallic! Terrific car from 1997. Will drive another 20 years 😊
Haha! Both of ours are incredibly reliable - better than most modern cars :)

Gotta disagree, having owned 2 s60 T5s back in early 2000s i was looking for a new estate for my business and I went to look at the v70 2009, the centre console is made of the cheapest plastic materials which was peeling, the door clunk was noticeably more tinny and I was so unimpressed I didn't even drive it. The Old volvos had lovely materials all through and the doors were heavy and shut with a quality thud. The new one felt more like a French car than a solid volvo.
Need to get a turbo starlet on the channel 🔥
Nah we can beat that 🙂 watch what we do to this
Now this is my kind of content 🎉 keep it coming please
Hubby just did 15000 jump at goskydive 2 weeks ago... Fantastic experience 👌
Hello my friend, I have a problem with poor torque and fuel consumption?
The two diesels aren't the same. MK1 and MK2. It was an Audi diesel
I love your sky dive. I can’t wait to do mine in a couple of weeks.
You won’t regret it! It’s such an incredible experience
Going to buy my first Volvo V70 on saturday. A 2010 V70 2.4D Summum Polestar optimized. Living in Sweden, nowdays these old Volvos are pretty expensive still even if they ran many miiles. 175 horsepowers original, but with the Polestar optimization it is 195 horsepower. The geartronic have also been dialed in, better response on the gaspedal. I checked the car up and yeah, it say 7 users on that car, but 6 of these are cardealers that owned it. I will be the second true owner of it. Only went 17 600 km. Dunno how many miles that is. But I am glad I did this. It was the destiny, that V70 went out the market very same day I crashed my Volvo S80 from 2003. For some reason the car started to pull hard to the left and I couldn't countersteer, so I smashed into the middlerail we got on some bigger streets in Sweden. That car was totalled. So I sat down, looked for a V70 diesel, my dad heard what car I looked for and he sended me pics of this Summum Polestar. I took a loan, called the cardealer. Haven't even testdrive it or seen the car in real life. But the ones that bought the car bought it new in 2010 67 and 66 year old. Now 80 and 79 year old. So it is an elderly couple that had the car since the beginning. It was too good to be true. Here, I smash my car the very same day the cardealer puts out a advertisment on this car and the car truly, truly, truly looks like new on the pictures. So I said: "Well, if you don't buy this one your are stupid. It is no overprize on this one because there are many 2.4D and D5 that sitting there with huge milage and that are even MORE expensive than this car." So yeah, there is a little carstory for you to read. I am excited, but yet, I am nervous. Going to bring that car home on saturday. Not fully paid yet, but I want to close the deal between four eyes and making sure that the car will be ready for an 2 hour 10 minutes drive home. The dealer even putted the advertisment down because I paid some cash in advance. So yeah, not fully mine yet, but it will be on saturday. I am sooo excited. This will be my 7th car I will own since I had my drivinglicense. Took it year 2000. Only bought cheap cars before this one and my Volvo S80 I did major fixing on it, I did services and everything on it. But I had some bad wobbeling in the front when I drove on the road. I suggested this both to carshops and carinspection, but they didn't find anything wrong with it and then the accident happened. So I guess the wobbeling needs to be something to do with it. Shame, I wanted to own that S80 much much longer. 😫
The petrol 5 cylinder is pretty bullet proof as well. The paint on these cars is incredible. Mine is 20 years old , wash it twice a year , and not a speck of rust , and I drive on the salt drenched winter roads in Sweden. In Sweden we usually refer to the V70n as the last real Volvo before Ford had too much of a say.
P2 and P3 is mostly during Ford or after Ford had its influence. Very unfortunate.
P2 paintwork is much much better. Even at 20 years old these have hardly if any rust on the exterior.
I'll have one with classical 3.0 tdi 😅😊
Thanks for the review. Whats your opinion abt v70 sec.gen. 2.0 petrol?
