    How is the pattern usually navigated when landing on 26? do you make your turn to base prior to those hills?

    • @captiansquared8671
      @captiansquared8671 Před rokem

      Because the pattern is flown at 1000 agl the pattern is high enough that it clears the hills. It’s definitely tight but they should not be a problem during the day.

    WOA~! I just experienced Virtual Reality without Virtual Reality! Thats some turbulance! Not really but not zero wind either! Great view! #100 viewer! lol

    To much movements with ailerons, producing adverse yaw all the time. Apply wind correction angle during the approach and stay calm with ailerons. Decrab with rudder, watch out for induce roll, therefore don’t dissociate rudder from ailerons during the flare; and don’t forget to round out. Remember that the yoke must be into the wind during take off roll, coming back to neutral when the speed increases. The wing low method is for sure not the one I prefer. M.MOERENHOUT CFII ELLX

    Fun to watch. Looks like some turbulence as you are really working the controls. Good landings. Thanks for sharing.

    If I may suggest, on your final approach, instead of continuously adding right aileron to stay on the centre line ,looked like a crosswind from the right, to rather try right aileron into wind add left rudder to hold the nose to the center line…takes a bit of practice,but well worth it…touchdown will be then on the right wheel first then the left….on landing hold aileron into wind….

      It is not a complex aircraft, it is a piston single with performance right between a cessna 152 and 172

      @captiansquared8671 Před 2 lety

      Thanks! It was a fairly calm day. Only about 30 knots over the top of the mountain. We were about 1000 above the peak to avoid any mountain wave turbulence.

    What about carb heat and the fuel pump? Both are supposed to be on. Some people think bgg that carb heat only apies to Cessnas, but the warrior carbs can also i e up! I also don't inderstand no tadio calls?

    • @captiansquared8671
      @captiansquared8671 Před 2 lety

      Hey Tom. Electric Fuel pump is on. Piper Archers are more susceptible to carb icing than Warriors to my understanding due to the increase horsepower. That day was a low humidity day so it was not super necessary. It is also not a part of the landing checklist for this aircraft. I do not have the cord to tap into the cockpit audio thus the engine noise drowns out the radio calls. Thanks for the engagement!

      @marlosdavis1114 Před 2 lety

      Carb heat on is not in Warrior II pre-landing checklist

      @@thomasplaisted3579 You know better than the manufacturer? You should not leave it on during landing unless ice is a problem, because full throttle application with carb heat on, say in case of an overshoot, can lead to detonation. That is in the PoH of my Warrior. Maybe not yours, but I wouldn't go ahead and spread that as a universal truth. And the fuel pump is on... it's right next to the master. Do you even know this plane?

      It's common for people to think that. Lycoming doesn't recommend carb heat unless you suspect carb icing ... drive.google.com/file/d/10DfKeWVljzdRqM_YQKM-9msnACJsY-Xo/view?usp=drivesdk

    Dear Captain Squared: I'm retired, now, but have fond memories of when I flew for a couple of years in the early 1980's as a young man. I was only single engine VFR, but I fulfilled a dream. Family, career, and life took over so my flying has been relegated to a very fond memory... that and an inner ear that wouldn't let me fly anymore anyhow. Noodling around on CZcams last night, I typed in "Piper Warrior II" which was what I flew, and your WONDERFUL video came up! Thanks so much for taking me along for the ride! My then girlfriend, now treasured wife, our adult daughter, and I watched together. A fond memory for my wife as she was often a passenger; a fascination for my daughter who had heard about my flying and now could put some visuals with my stories; and pure joy for me to see you grease those landings. The best 3 landings of my flying years were the first three when my instructor, Eugene, told me to stop the plane on the taxi-way. When he popped the door and jumped out I asked, "What the heck are you doing???" He leaned back into the plane and said, "Three touch-and-goes, then park it." With that he slammed the door and left me feeling the most alone I'd ever felt in my life. But when I touched down that first time, I started hollering at the top of my lungs as I'd NEVER felt anything so invigorating in my life. My favorite Warrior was cream colored with orange stripes... 4328 Sierra. I LOVED that rental plane! I looked up the airport where you were flying and saw that it is in Mass. As a young man in Chicago, I was also a DEC engineer and spent many weeks in training out in Lowell, Mass. I also LOVED Prince Grotto Restaurant, the Green Ridge Turkey Farm in Nashua, and the Hilltop Steakhouse... ALL long gone, now. Thank you SO much for taking an old man for a ride. Thank you SO much! I wish you a Happy New Year and hope that you're able to stay with the flying for a lifetime! God Bless!

      Dear Richard, thank you for sharing your story with me! It is really cool so see how the aviation community is able to connect with each other, even if it is many years later. I remember the exact feeling when my instructor closed the door after he got out for my first solo; I felt a confusing mix of nervousness, excitement, and adrenaline, but once I pushed the throttle all the way forward I felt a sense of calmness. Knowing that I was the only one able to land the aircraft while on final for the first time was an ominous feeling which turned into a sense of pride moments later. As an engineering student I have a little idea of where you are coming from. That is funny that you mention some of those restaurants because they still leave a legacy today. Sharing your story is something I am grateful for, as this is what general aviation is all about! I am glad I was able to bring back so many found yet prominent memories and that you enjoyed the video! Happy New Year and get back out flying one day!
