    Hello, I like te setup butt is this really a hydroponic setup in the real sence of the word hydroponics? I see this a a nice thing to setup but also as a soil in buckets with plants instead of soilplanting in the ground with trip or timer watering. A agree this is a nice setup, butt as I am resident in the south of Portugal, and the land here needs watering so often, that is the same as what you do liftup on a table. I think to tace over some of the things I saw in this video, butt I want call it hydroponics. Thank you for the video.

I will expand more economically in the future here in Austin TX. Thank you. Buy the way, only red wrigglers will stay in the top 6 inches. Some people will grow night crawlers and they are deep dwellers, so make sure the worm species is the reds, available in smaller units ( just 2 of us for scraps) at Walmart in the fishing bait refrigerator…30 reds under $5!

    I live in the tropics and I plan to grow peppers. I will use this method. A quick question why do you use growing medium instead of regular soil? What’s more economical medium or soil? I wonder if I can grow peppers all year around in this system, since there is no winter here.

    • @PeaceLoveGarden

      I like using the hydroponic method because I found the plant growth to be superior vs using soil. However you can certainly use soil in the buckets and the drip system with water only.

    I'm currently using 4 lights 2 are 4 bulbs T5 54w. And 2 are 4 bulb T8 32W. I have been thinking about switching to LED lights like the one in this video and I was just wondering how you like it for starting vegetable seedlings? Do you find the lights don't have to be on as long versus t5's? Also if you could give me an idea of how high you keep them off the seedlings? Thanks.

    • @PeaceLoveGarden
      @PeaceLoveGarden Před 6 měsíci

      Works great for seed starting. I run the LED for the same amount of time as I previously ran the T5's. As far as distance, I put it about 24" for seed starting in my grow tent with the dimmer set at 25% then 50% as they got bigger. This thing is seriously bright. I found that this light will easily cover the 24"x48" footprint of my grow tent. The fixture comes with a chart for general height suggestions, seems to be pretty accurate.

    • @kansasgardener5844
      @kansasgardener5844 Před 6 měsíci

      @@PeaceLoveGarden Thanks for the reply. My T5 bulbs are starting to burn out after 5 years. They cost $45 for 4 to replace so I'm thinking I might go LED. Electric bill is another consideration. I've been looking at that style light on Amazon and can get a few under $80. One the same size of yours for $108. I might buy one or two for next season as I just bought new T5 bulbs. Thanks!

    • @PeaceLoveGarden
      @PeaceLoveGarden Před 6 měsíci

      The T5 bulb cost was a driving factor for me to switch as well, more so than the electric bill. There are a lot of good LED lights out now. Mars Hydro and Viparspectra are 2 of the best bang for the buck from my research. I'd avoid the strip or tube style like Barrina. The LED panel style lights are the way to go, especially if you might like to grow plants to full size with them some day.
