Recently bought Hornady 168gr ELD Match bullets for my .308 Win target load, after using Hornady 168gr Match bullets for the last year, which produced the best groupings from 100-500 yards. Lapua brass (once fired in the same rifle they will be used in), CCI BR-2 Large Rifle Primers, and Hodgdon Varget powder. This is Part 1, the load development, with Part 2 being the results of the groupings ...

    Picked up a used like new S&W 22A bout 4 years ago at a good price and never regretted it. Came with the 5.5" barrel, case,manual, fancy wood grip, 2 magazines, red dot scope plus a dozen nylon buffer inserts. I bought the black grip because the OEM wood grip was a bit large for my hand. Most accurate pistol I have ever owned. Never had to change buffer insert, still using the one pistol came with. I looked at the Browning Buckmark but I didn't like the thin flimsy ejector it had. Thanks for the Vid!

    Like falling-n-love with the 1st Girl friend .... the A-1 was ... and is .... still my 1st luv. I have the 7" barrel. It luv's CCI std 40g rd nose ammo. Retired the Remington 597 in lieu of the A-1. Works well out to 80-100 yds for rabbits here in WY. Having a red dot has increased the accuracy ... BUT ... acquiring it takes a bit longer than the iron sights. Is attached to my left leg with a combat holster that accommodates the long barrel. BUT .... the MAIN rabbit dispatcher is my Taurus TX22 for closer-in distances up to 60 yds. Been a long time since I've seen a CZcams vid on the A-1 & comparing others. Thanks.

    I think the bullets at 500 M were becoming unstable due to loss in velocity. Try working-up a heavier load that gives you good 100 M groups and test them at 500M.

    I see where the latest Hornady reloading manual states 41.7 gr of Varget, however, they do state that one can load up to 44.0 grains as long as pressure signs are not observed. Varget tends to do better when the cases are approx 97% or somewhat higher capacity. Of course, mileage may vary but as long as one works up and sees no pressure signs then it should be fine. It's great you found a node at 41.6 grains but there is another higher node somewhere..... as long as pressure signs are not apparent.

      bc 10 will give you a better indication of the SD as well as ES measurements. With powder and primers being so hard to come by, I usually test a 4- or 5- shot group.... 10 is better but not feasible during these crazy times

      There is a community swiming pool, two large recreation centers, ice rinks, indoor gymansiums, indoor and outdoor soccer fields, an indoor running track, curling arena and with that associated teams. There are many community events like outdoor festivals, winter activities, farmers market, and outdoor adventure events/competitions. Canoeing and kayaking is popular once the ice has melted, due to the huge number of lakes and rivers.

      @Aaron-514 Před 4 lety

      I use a Chronograph, but as I mentioned at the end of this video, my standard deviation calculations will be in a different video. 41gr of Varget is considered the starting point, but I wanted to try some loads below that too, to see how they performed. I have done a lot of load tests for .308 with the same rifle and 45gr of Varget using Hornady 168gr Match (not the ELD used in this video) is what produced the lowest consistent SD and groups. Load testing is done for the year though as it's -30 Celcius and Winter is here. What loads have you tried?

    • @Aaron-514
      @Aaron-514 Před 7 lety

      It is a very easy trail to ride as the descent down is on a gravel road that has some pot holes and areas you can get air but not a challenge for an experienced rider. The trail section is maintained and has sections of plank walkways where the difficult sections used to be in the 1990's. I hadn't been on that trail since 1999 and it is very different now.

      I don't know those trails, lol! I have been living in Alberta and the Comox Valley for the last few years. I did the vid when I was back visiting family. Severed Dick on the North Shore used to be a good trail but who knows what it's like now. I used to ride through Lynn Canyon all the time, even going across the suspension bridge when no one was on it. Fun ride.
