Trampoline Tutorial: CRUISE
Hey everyone!
Cruises are an oft-overlooked fundamental skill on trampoline!
Being good at cruises will make it way easier to learn much bigger skills, whether it's a cody full or a full full full (seriously)!
I'll make another video explaining exactly how and why they're so important, but in the meantime I hope this video helps you master your cruise 🙃👊🏻

Could you possibly do a tutorial on a cody if you havent already i tried one the other day and i didnt get enough rotation and almost broke my jaw with my knee lol i just cant get enough rotation with it
Absolutely! In the meantime, a couple things that might help- the first drill I show in this tutorial, where you go from stomach to back, is the same snap initiation as you would use for a cody. If you can get that takeoff to feel consistent, it'll make life much safer. The second thing I would recommend is learning to drive a cruise all the way over to your back. Going to your stomach is a great start, but if you can flip it even further you'll learn how it feels to put the rotation in that you would need to do a cody to your stomach or feet. Lastly, if you weren't trying it from a back 3/4 (backflip to stomach), I would highly recommend starting there. It'll give you much more power than starting from a front drop, just like a roundoff backflip is much physically easier than a standing one.

GET TO THE CHOPPAAAA
@@ScottMcDonaldAcrobat 🤣
How do i add spinns to my flips? i accidentally did my first front half somewhat right, but since then every attempt landet on my head (in a foam pit). I can somewhat easily do a double front into foam, and on a good day a double back into foam
Twisting is mostly a matter of turning your hip, shoulder, and head at the same rate in the same direction at the same time, made much easier and more efficient by keeping your abs and butt engaged (what gymnasts etc refer to as "staying tight") so your entire body moves as one unit rather than in a disjointed way. For a front half, you can break it down in a pretty simple way- do a front tuck, kick out, and in the moment right before landing, close your hip and shoulder so you turn 45 degrees in the direction you want to twist. When that gets comfortable, add another 45 degrees so you're landing facing sideways, then another 45 to take you into an almost-half-twist, and finally another 45 degrees to take you all the way to a front half. From there, you can begin twisting slightly earlier and in a more open position so you can watch the trampoline, but that's how I would typically teach it. As for back twisting, cruises are a wonderful way to drill for the timing and general feeling of it. More to come on the subject, but it's hard to condense it into a CZcams comment, haha. Hope this helps!
Have you ever tried adding extra twists to cruises'. A mate of mine does cruise double full or cruise 2.5 twists to back. Very enjoyable truck but quite difficult to initiate the extra rotation whilst staying on axis
I have! I thoroughly enjoy 540 cruise to stomach, it's been ages since the last time I did 900 but it was fun (and terrifying) when I used to do them, haha. Cruise variation videos coming next weekend (and for a month or so afterward) 🙃👊🏻
Super clean dives I might add
Thank you!
Bro is too close to that ledge
So pretty!
I'm loving the new scenery, I hope they keep it like this even after Cloud 7 is over!
Excellent tutorial. I have looked at several videos on this and yours is the easiest to wrap my head around. BTW, isn't it a fountain rather than a cascade you are referring to?
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! Good catch with the terminology, too- I think of cascades and fountains as being the same general concept (minus switching hands) and often forget to distinguish between the two! Much appreciated, I'll be more mindful of how I refer to them 🙏🏻👊🏻
540 cat and rudy ball are eternally cool
And so different in difficulty level, at least for me- the 540 cat always feels like it has to feel "wrong" to get the right amount of rotation, if that makes sense, whereas the Rudi ballout is just a full porpoise then I stare at the tramp and do nothing 😂🤷🏻♂
Do you have a tutorial on Rudi ballout?
Not yet, but I will make one. There are three different ways you can approach it- Rudi timing (540 twist over the top), Jonah- full, or my personal preference: full up barani. I would argue that none of them is inherently right or wrong, it’s just what feels the most natural to you
Always doing great work man
Thank you so much!
i tried and i keep landing on my neck how am i supposed to fix that
Hard to know for sure how you're winding up on your neck without seeing it, but chances are you're bringing your knees too close to your chest while on your back then kicking too vertically and/or not keeping your neck muscles engaged. Hope that helps!
Funny man spinning around a circle
🙃🙃
Now imagine doing that in a one handed vampire handstand 🔥
Now that is an interesting idea indeed 🤓🤓🤓🤓
Different 🏆🏆🏆🏆

Better than any invert ive ever been able to get in my whole life. Another very excellent song choice too
@@bboyagua thank you! I was worried about my shoulders but it felt totally fine to catch like this, give it a go!
🚀🚀
Ayyy merci! Hope you’re doing well man!
Woow! Loved this one! Will try these steps to get my heli soon! Thanks a lot for sharing 💪🔥
👊🏻☺️👊🏻 the biggest thing I would suggest is really, really drilling in on a raised surface until the mechanics are 100% before going any lower
Great stuff brother! All clear, will try these tips asap. Also subbed! All the best 💪
Ayyy cheers, thank you so much! I hope the tips help!
I think Peter Pan is the steeziest. Great vid!
Thank you very much!
Especially liked the bonus!!!!
Thank you! It's a fun one!
Awesome! Off to try the 360!
It's a fun one! It's one of those "less is more" kind of tricks and is one of the best drills for 360 dive rolls 🤓👊🏻
I wish we had some training facilities like this where I live. I'm just trying to learn stuff by myself using CZcams, it kinda sucks not to have any coaching or equipment!
This facility is pretty one of a kind, but there might be something like a trampoline park, gymnastics gym, or small circus studio near you! I absolutely understand the frustration and difficulty of teaching yourself- I was in the same boat for most of my career, and it definitely made things take much longer/led to needless injuries. Based on your name, I'm assuming you live in Leiden, Netherlands- if so, good news: there are a few tramp parks and gymnastics gyms 🙃🙃🙃
@@ScottMcDonaldAcrobat thanks for the encouragement! Unfortunately I moved from Leiden to the backwaters of the Belgian countryside and feel very isolated from cool clubs and good facilities. I do have access to a trampoline park, so that's become my second home 🤣 No trampwall tho - the horror! Keep up the great content, it really is inspiring and thanks for taking the time to reply 💪
@@LostInLeiden Ahh, I see! Unfortunate about the lack of trampwall, but the tramp park sounds like a great substitute place to train the rest of your skills! Thank you very much! More trampoline tutorials coming shortly 🙃👊🏻
You are incredible!
Thank you very much!
That look at the end is the proper reaction for achieving full wizard status. Where did this come from? Ive watched it dozens of times trying to imagine doing it and I’m still like wat
I am but a mere thief 😂 here’s who I stole it from- she lifts the opposite leg and does it infinitely better under infinitely harder circumstances! czcams.com/video/T1ju0iyGsLY/video.htmlsi=4YV1_FSFUGcNbojz
Bro you are a legend your tutorials have helped me learn so many tricks im having a lot of trouble with a full cradle tho i keep landing sideways and ive rewatched your tutorial so many times and i dont know how to fix my error
@@user-vx5eq2fs5j Thank you so much! Send me a video of your attempts on Instagram and I’ll take a look, but if I were to guess you’re probably rushing the twist and not swinging your legs directly underneath your hips as you leave the wall or tilting your torso off axis 👊🏻🤓
Okay ill send you the video on instagram
I've never seen / done the jonah ballout or the pullover cruise. Looks dope, wanna try. Geinger coming up soon?
Ahhhh damn, I forgot about Geingers! I've already filmed and edited part three but I suppose I can always make a part four 🤓 The pullover cruise in particular is extremely helpful for back full out (which, in retrospect, probably would have been less threatening to learn as a pullover full out)
Love your tutorials . Keep it up
Thank you! Will do 🙏🏻
just tried your twisting challange, only got barelly to 360. But considering i cant do any twists its not that bad
Nice! Maybe reverse engineering it by starting with the twisting challenge will help!
5 is just a bomb. We should try it. It looks very impressive
Давай 👊🏻🙃👊🏻 it's a fun one!
So sick man. The Jonah and Cruise bonuses are really interesting.
Thank you! The cruise bonus one in particular is a favorite of mine- it can also be done from feet, but either way it’s a wonderful drill for back in full out (or, in this case, pullover full out) 🙃🙃
Great tutorial
Thanks Marcin! 🙏🏻👊🏻
I like the face down demo. 😆 Great video!
@@AndresLinFan 😂😂😂 thank you, I had a lot of fun filming the mistakes in this one!
Wow! My skills level, I'll try with a pleasure! Thank's a lot!
Happy to help! 👊🏻🙃👊🏻
This is why trampolining is awesome- there are so many fun set ups that you can use for any basic skill to make it progressively harder. I use a few of these when I coach the beginners, love the porpoise!
@@Hlstmz77 absolutely! I love the infinite possibilities on tramp, it’s so great for air awareness and building confidence in tricks!
😘😚
These are great! Have actually been practicing these front drop setups the last few weeks. Ive been doing the airplane but making experimenting with this alot by adding a full twist to then landing and trying to spin around the landing zone in 90 degree increments. Loves these advanced basics. Please do more like this, I love your beginner stuff because your variations are fiendishly difficult but still possible.
Nice! The 90 degree increments will come in super handy, especially for getting familiar with the feeling of cruises and tricks of that ilk. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, there are two more to come (thus far) with intermediate and advanced front drop setups. I'll be honest, though- difficulty is a weird, subjective thing. I find the seat drop and cat twist 180 in this video waaaaay harder to control than ostensibly harder tricks like front full 1 1/4 to stomach.
Actually that's really interesting you mentioned the seat drop and 180 cat twist, there actually the two easiest ones for me as a beginner. Currently working on variation 5. Pullover just feels super sketch cause I feel like I'm used to bailing if I'm inverted.
@@SG-gd4wo Interesting! It's all subjective. If the pullover is spooky, doing it to your hands and knees might serve as a nice intermediary that lands at a similar angle
Amazing🏆
Thank you!
Haha omg this is awesome
Ayy cheers Brandon! I love land diving like you like holding your breath, haha 😅😂👊🏻
My legs tend to stay bent for the duration of the pop, is it okay to not have your legs fully extended for the pops?
You can totally do tucked pops with your knees bent, most people just find them scarier at first. The only concern I would have is making sure you finish pushing through your top foot, which tends to extend my leg as I leave the wall. If that's not happening, you're probably missing out on a decent amount of potential height and power.
I discovered the tramp wall earlier this year and your videos have been a game changer for me. Love it so much, thank you for making these tutorials! Could you do a video for a backflip transfer? *not sure if that’s the name of the trick, running up one wall, backflip to running down the other wall*
I'm glad the videos are helping! I'll be honest, backflip transfer isn't one of my stronger tricks, but I'll try to train them more and see what I can do 🙃 they're mostly about timing and fear, just like everything else on the wall
Def could use your progression/drills on it! Appreciate the tips, fear is definitely a factor where I feel I need more height to stop missing the wall.
@@ElalacranHf It could be height or it could be lateral direction as you push off the wall. Hard to say without seeing a video. I suppose if you have an unenclosed trampwall or a wall on the short side you could always try doing a walking back and pushing as far outward as possible, then see how that distance compares to what you'd have to travel in a transfer 🤓
damn, i found gem channel❤❤
Ayyy thank you so much!
This was brilliant, Scott! Do you also have a similarly detailed step-by-step guide for the Macaco?
Thank you very much! I don’t have one at the moment, but I could definitely make one 😊
@@ScottMcDonaldAcrobat Would love that! :D
Byeeeeee
Love all your tutorials!! Thank you for putting this out for the beginner community trying to learn!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy them! I'm just trying to provide the resources that were absent when I was getting into all of this; if you ever have any requests for videos or things you think would be helpful please just let me know!
@@ScottMcDonaldAcrobat idk if you have any suggestions for this but I’m scared of height 😅 tips and tricks for getting used to going higher? I’m realizing that I’ll need to fix this if I want to progress
@@freedomrunner22 The best advice I could give would be to take things slowly and progressively add height (to walls, to bouncing) as incrementally as possible. For example, at the gym where I train there are 6', 8', and 10' trampwall ledges, but there are also blocks of different heights that can be attached to the top to create 7', 9', 11' and so on :) I hope that helps! Some of my friends who perform crazy high aerial and trampwall acts for Cirque du Soleil also have a fear of heights- I hope you can master your fears too! 👊🏻🙃
That's such an amazing tutorial, I'll try these drills during my next training sesh
Thank you so much! I hope they come in handy!
