The HK P30 LEM LTT - Follow Up Almost A Year Later
It has been almost a year of working with the HK P30 LEM LTT and at first I was not loving it for more than accuracy. Now that I have put some time in it. I’m considering a P30L for everyday use. Interesting journey.

Bobs duty holster is weathered and worn.. Bob has some time on the job I’m assuming.
Yes almost 2 decades
I needed this video, thank you
Thank you! Check out the follow up video also.
I carry an L-frame on body comfortably but I also carry a usp expert of body because it’s a laser. I have 3 staccatos and plenty of other guns, but the hk and my S&w are the only ones that have NEVER given me an issue. Not even with shitty ammo that wouldn’t function in everything else.
I miss the USP my dad got me in the 90’s, had to sell it to make ends meet when I had health problems. Never forgave myself for it. Tried the VP9 but I just don’t like it for some reason.
Coming from the USP have you tried the P30?
That's a great video 🥲🙌👏
Could have let us know what size torque screw that was
It’s a standard T10 head and whatever screw size came with the optic.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions I bought mine second hand, all I know is it’s a factory VP9 optic cut. Wasn’t wanting to order a set of torq tools if I can just order one
Sorry I don’t know the size screws Holosun or Trijicon sends with the optics. You’ll have to contact them.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions I found out that I can use the Holosun scs and won’t have to use a plate. My question was what size torq bit goes in the oem slide plate. It should be the same for every VP9 oem cut plate
Yes the SCS is a nice option. I’ll check the bit size for you this morning.
Thank you for the review! Let me know when we can do anything else for you and the PDS team.
Will do!
Vp9sk is the model I keep going back to after a decade of carry. Though the P2000 I will say is criminally underrated despite ergos many people don't like.
I can understand why you keep going back to the VP9sk
I agree with this message! The customer service is second to none!
We love learning from you Brandon in the classroom and at the range. We feel safer and more confident every time. Be armed and armed with knowledge!
Thanks so much!! Growth always seems to happen each time. Keep it up!
Gunfights among your average cc people, occur at conversational distances, where human conflicts begins. More like 5 yards or less. This strongly negates the time to raise your pistol fast enough and aquire the red dot at eye level, to fire, when someone is trying to shoot and kill you, in a microsecond. Most cc carriers at that distance will point and shoot. A highly trained person, maybe, will be fast enough, and trained enough to make a red dot shot at 5 yards. The red dot will be good for cops, where distances are many times longer. (Felony traffic stops, etc) Red dots are good for competition shooting. Nothing wrong with having a red or green dot optic on your handgun. I believe😮 at a very short distance, the "front sight flash picture" should work. Make sure you have a very visible front sight. Jim Cirillo, a NY city police officer, in the 1970s, stakeout squad, shot many criminals, with a six shot Smith and wesson model 10 .38 special, using the flash front sight picture. When asked about his many shootings, the highly trained professional, stated, "When the shooting started I knew, they(criminals) were in my world."
What data are you using to make a claim that gun fights among average concealed carrier holders only occur at 5 yards or less? Also by saying that the average will just point and shoot there is extremely high risk legally there. Also a flash sight picture is used with a dot also.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions Not likely for the average cc person.
You said at conversational distances where normal human conflicts begin. So again where do you get that data?
@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions Are you kidding? Five yards or less, is recorded in the stats. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that the stats at that distance is conversational distance. Keep digging your hole, cuz the dirt is now falling on top of you. Geez.
You can get pissed off all you want. I’m just asking where you got the data from. But, since you’re refusing to provide a source I have to assume that it is just your assumption.
Nice review, considering one of these. I had the regular LEM and the long reset really bugged me and slowed me down. I was OK with the long first pull. How would you say the trigger pull weight is relative to stock? And which weight trigger did you order for yours? Thanks
I had a stock LEM & DA/SA version and I greatly prefer the LTT version. The reset means very little to me since I don’t pin the trigger and then release to the reset point. I let the trigger all the way out and reset while it’s recoiling. However the reset on the LTT is significantly better. I did the extra light springs yielding about a 3.5lbs trigger pull.
Great video, so far nobody has actually explained the LEM completely. The tick is, that the hammer is two piece, each piece with it's own spring. When you rack the slide, only the lower part is cocked. The upper part follows the slide into a resting position. When you pull the trigger you will see the upper part move, just like the hammer on a double action pistol. However, because the lower part of the hammer is already cocked, the pull is very light. At the wall the upper part meets the lower part and both pieces break for the shot. Repeat. I think the idea behind this long pull with a single action trigger weight is safety. On some "normal" single action pistols the take up is so short, that an accidental discharge can occur just by carelessly "resting" the finger on the trigger. The long pull on the LEM requires a willful movement of the trigger finger.
Thanks! The LEM version is simply a precocked hammer spring not a two piece hammer.
Good looking return. Get that support hand high and vice it, and it'll get even better
Sent my LTT P30 LEM (with GG short reset) to Rick Holm at Lazy Wolf for his MRAP package and it is nothing short of game changing.
Glad he did good for you. I had a train wreck experience with Rick.
HK P2000 v2 9mm, is an older design, but I think it s better than the VP9 series as a carry pistol.
I have a P30 LEM that I am quite fond of. Haven’t made the decision to go to it 100% yet but I really enjoy it.
My daily is a p30sk lem. A gun this small shouldn’t shoot better groups than $2,000 1911’s but it does. Anything short of melting it down won’t break it.
I’m actually considering switching to my P30 LEM LTT from my VP9. I love them both and I am starting to shoot the P30 slightly better but we will see.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions Any further thoughts a month on? Could totally see myself giving the P30 a go.
@@PanarchyTheater I love the P30 LEM especially the LTT version. But, I have carried a VP9 for almost 5 years. Straight up I have never kept a carry gun that long. I will stick to my VP9 for years to come. Unless H&K puts out something even more amazing.
went through a few then found HK. I first bought a V3 p30sk but sometimes would forget the DE cocker, not good. Went to a P30L LEM with night sights. Didn't like the night sights, Great pistol. Then bought an HK p30sk LEM LT and am here for good. I don't like striker fire because of the holstering. The LEM you can put your thumb over the hammer. No safety, great trigger, second strike, and love the phosphorescent sights. It's totally stock and it's perfect. 10+1 to 17 +1 mags also.
Petition the law if it is inadequate. Until it gets overturned, understand what the law is, know how you can move and proceed troubleless
Some dumb laws there, should be able to protect your property with whatever force necessary. Use 2a to protect your 4a. It’s an unlawful seizures.
Fine balance to it bro, I think it’s best that you’re not legally allowed to use/brandish a firearm in anything that is less then life threatening.
Property is replaceable life is not. Insurance is there for a reason.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions why let them go ? Just so they can go do it again to someone else, what if the next person had a kid in the car. Even if they are caught I don’t want my taxes feeding someone like that.
Well I guess you’d rather eat prison food then. Look I don’t like that criminals are doing these things over and over anymore than anyone else. Joining their ranks doesn’t help the situation. If you aren’t LE public safety is NOT your responsibility. The your life and the lives of your loved ones are. You can’t protect your loved ones from behind bars let the cops deal with them over property.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions I’m not saying that’s what the law is right now, I am saying that’s how it should be, it would help clean up the streets finally instead of the catch and release justice system we have.
I used to work with Chris! What a small world
Chris who?
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions Chris Griese
I just bought my VP9 last month. Pricey, but the feel and function of the gun sold me. Would not consider another pistol
Yep, it’s absolutely one of my favorites
Fundamentals is why this works. Some people will criticize his grip but he is adhering to basic principles and fundamentals. Styles are just styles.
Yes it was very fundamental. It was his first time shooting.
If I did buy an optic? This SCS is the only optic that makes sense. DIRECT MOUNT. Nuff said. Brilliant design. It should make all others obsolete and crush the faddish, over inflated pricing. 👍👍
I don’t think it’s the only one that makes sense.
I sold my GLOCK G26 Gen5 and replaced it with a VP9 SK. 👍👍
Awesome!
If you ever get the chance to shoot a Sig Sauer P226 or P229 you might think sbout selling this money pit. I love my stock H&Ks. but a stock Sig P226 is on another level above the P30. Better quality, simplicity, accuracy, reliability. And it doesn't need to be shipped around the country, suck up $$$$$. Good luck, and sample some other designs. You might be selling another P30. 👍
Bwahaha.... Now that's funny.
Very good video. I came from an LE background and we carried G22’s. Now that I’m retired, I carry staccatos mostly but carried the p30 series for a while before that. The manual safety doesn’t bother me much (after training) because my rifle has a manual safety that is disengaged as I present and re-engaged as I come down. It’s the same way with pistols with manual safeties.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Just got mine and man is it fantastic! Thanks for the video bud!
Great to hear!
Whats a good holster?
We recommend Haven Defense Co. havendefenseco.com/?ref=0ym8aijp
Do you recommend the optics ready Vp9sk or the non Optic ready model for concealed carry
I don’t think there’s any reason not to go with the optics ready version. The only reason I think that someone would stick with iron sights in today’s world, is if they can’t afford the optic itself.
Thank you 👍
@@Franziskaner1911 you’re welcome
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions Do you recommend the Vp9 to your students or Vp9sk. I’m undecided.
It really depends on what each individual likes what their needs are. Here is the joy of being an HK brand ambassador, I have multiple VP9’s a & VP9sk’s they can shoot and see which they like best. If you are in my area we can make that happen so you can decide. Otherwise I’d suggest trying to find a range that has them for rent. I carry a full size with a comp personally. My wife carries the SK w/ a 15 round mag because of her physical size.
what do the numbers mean on the sides of the target?
Honestly, I don’t know I’ve never paid any attention to them
I carry the VP9SK SCS and everything you said is accurate..I trust the he gun 💯! Such a sweet shooting gun
Love hearing that
I have noticed that if I adjust in the direction of the arrow R the bullet goes in the opposite direction. left why is that

What kind of duty holster do you have.
I don’t have a duty holster. I train solely from concealment. But, we only recommend the safariland ALS holsters for duty style.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions that's what I have for my old duty weapon. They do not have an exact fit for the VP9 with a Holosun SCS. So I am looking for anything that will work.
@@ATX-oy8bi gotcha sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Excellent video. So many of these red dot sight-in videos talk about moving your red dot to the point of impact, which just confuses people. Your straightforward “clicks up and clicks right” to get to the bullseye is very clear, and matches the indicators on the red dot itself. Thank you.
Thanks I appreciate it
Just a heads up - I think you have the old SK mags. HK recently updated all their VP mag followers. The new flush mag now holds 12 rounds and the 13rd form factor mag now holds 15!
I just got 2 new VP9sk’s and the flush fit mag wasn’t included at all. 13&15 only
That’s how mine came…13 and 15 rounds lol…I had to order some flush fits but I think HK has a special where you get 4 free mags now
@@RepentorPerish77 yes they are running a $200 rebate special
Very good information, I appreciate how you explained the process, again good job.
Thank you! So glad it was helpful!
Hi my name is John I am a new to ccw I have a glock 19 mos and a holosun scs optic on it how do I look at the dot when I first put it on
Hi John I’m not quite sure what you’re asking me so if I’m answering this incorrectly I apologize. When, using a dot on a pistol you should not be focused on the dot at all. In fact you should be focusing your vision on the target and super imposing, the dot over the target. I hope that helps you out and answers your question. If not feel free to respond here or reach out my email.
How do you review the red dot without explaining how to operate it?
The goal was not to teach you how to operate it. It’s basically the typical Holosun operation.
Love this gun I actually bought it not too long ago, my only gripe is the availability for light bearing holsters
So glad you are happy with it. What light are you using? That seems to be the issue with most light bearing holsters availability.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions I’m running a TLR 7A.
That shouldn’t be a problem. We use haven defense co. and those are some of the best in our opinion. Use our link from this page: ncpda.us/haven-defense.html and save 10% on it. Brent is great to work with. Or direct: havendefenseco.com/?ref=0ym8aijp
These guys always assume you’re a perfect shot and human error plays no part. 🧐
I don’t have a clue where that comment came from. No one I mean NO ONE is a perfect shot. The only assumption being made is by you
Trying to decide between the full size and the SK. But, By the time you put the extended mag in to get the better grip, you might as well have the full sized gun. By then it’s just the one half inch longer barrel and slide I think. What a great shooting gun though!!
I agree on the extended mag. The benefit I see with the SK is with it being a shorter slide / barrel for some people it would be easier to carry AIWB. The extended mag vs. the full size is ever so slightly shorter. But it is negligible in my opinion. But the SK does give you the ability to choose the shorter mag if you need to.
What torque bit did you use and where can I get one?
The tool used was a fix it sticks kit. You can get those on Amazon or at Brownells.
What's the difference between lem normal version and lem with GG reset in it? Does the wall come slightly after compared to a normal lem?
No there is a significant difference in the reset between the normal and GG version.
At 3 minutes into a 5 and a half minute video you havent DONE anything. You show a target and give some data but you never zeroed anything. In fact, I looked at a couple other videos of yours and you never shoot a round in them. Dont tell me - SHOW ME. And in your "about" section put some qualifications in there
I don’t have a range that I can regularly film at. That’s why you don’t see me shooting on here. Hard to film on a public range. As far as qualifications go visit my website the vast majority of my resume is there. Watching me zero the a gun isn’t going to teach you to do it.
Does it still work nice if you stay with the regular trigger but ask for the gray guns trigger set put in?
Grayguns triggers are amazing probably the best available. I do wonder if I would have preferred the curved trigger rather than the flat one.
@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions I think the flat trigger kinda looks weird and might bend so I wondered how it would be with the regular trigger and just the reset
@@LUIZS87it may have a odd look but it is quite strong. It’s not going to bend
@LUIZS87 You're afraid the metal trigger is going to bend. Not going to happen, and the regular trigger, as you call it, is polymer and definitely flexes when pulled in double action.
This assumes that you can shoot straight. In my very limited experience most people can’t.
But there is an answer for that
Excellent video thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I am looking for that pistol holder you have in this video. Does anybody have a link for that block on top of his parts mat??????
I purchased that block directly from HK. I know they’re out of stock on their website now, but you can contact present arms and see if they have them available.
@@PrecisionDefensiveSolutions thank you! will give it a try
