    I've seen polar bears in the wild in Barrow, Alaska. I've been around black bears and grizzlies before, but there's something especially spooky about knowing there are polar bears nearby. They're beautiful creatures but knowing how they kill and that you're no longer at the top of the food chain is very creepy.

    Sol invictus was the name of the official sun god of the late Roman Empire. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti was the name of the festival in this gods honor and took place on the winter solstice. There was also the Saturnalia festival celebrated on the solstice in different parts of the empire sometimes simultaneously with the Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. When Constantine changed the official religion of the empire to Christianity it made logistical sense to keep the timing of religious festivities the same because these celebrations were accompanied by a lot of travel and trade which was planned out far in advance for many merchants and businesses. There was also the added benefit of reapplying the reverence for that auspicious time of year to the appropriate recipient in the eyes of emperor Constantine

      @CasualClassical Před 17 dny

      I only meant to point out the logistical consideration of travel and business as well as clarify some details, but obviously that’s not all there was to Constantine’s decision. Being the pragmatic man (in addition to pious) he was, however, im inclined to believe the economic factors were probably pretty important to him. As well as trying to make the transition as seamless as possible

    • @JakeAtFlashback
      @JakeAtFlashback Před 17 dny

      Well I'm kind of talking about all of them. Sol Invictus - the only Pagan celebration (I know of) to fall on the 25th was Roman. I don't think it really matters which form of paganism you're talking about when the main question of the video is "was christmas originally a pagan festival?"

    • @clutchxcai
      @clutchxcai Před 17 dny

      @JakeAtFlashback It does matter a little bit because if the Christians took tradition inspiration from different pagan religions at the time than it would be like piecing a puzzle together. The only reason I said something about the form of paganism was for more context😎

    If you actually think about it they're just being forced to do what everyone else is already doing we're all slaves to our government because that's what we've chosen over the years but these people decided to go outside the government drug dealing stealing and so like that so the government arrest them enforce them to play into the system so the only real difference is they're being punished for not bowing to the system well that in you know being horrible people but they're no more slaves than the rest of us what happens if you stop paying your bills if you're from the UK what happens if you call a trans person a nasty name you go to jail if you're in Germany you do a Hitler salute you go to jail America has its problems but at least we're not that bad and I know everyone likes to go to the gun violence but UK has a lot more problems than America does in the violence department they have acid knives burnings hammers it's not gun violence but it's arguably worse The point is every country has its problems some are worse than others and criminals aren't really slaves they're just being forced to play the game like everyone else and being punished for what they did wrong two birds one stone

    The crazier part is that those violent inmates are not the ones doing the work because they need to be locked down for most of the day or are just bad people who can’t get a long with people. The men stuck working are usually people who made first time mistakes and are trying to redeem themselves.

    All the prisoners should ban together and absolutely REFUSE to work unless paid a decent wage. Unfortunately most are only thinking of themselves and not the big big picture of how a non work rebellion could benefit them all. It’s DEFINITELY modern day government sanctioned slavery what’s currently happening in our prisons which is disgraceful.

      Depends you might be wrongfully accussed and pressured into a plea deal, especially if your overworked public defender thinks its worth it or you can intimidated into giving a bogus confession. A few other considerations, if you are in prison waiting for your trial, you can be fired and don't earn income. So if you're pay check to paycheck just being detained can ruin your life. Many people will take plea deals so they can go to work, but if even of the charges are minor they go on your record and can effect future sentences, job apps, etc. You will always be given a public defender, but you may have to pay for your public defender afterwards depending on the state. Your public defender will also be overworked and overextended because we fund peosecutors more than defenders.

    • @JakeAtFlashback
      @JakeAtFlashback Před 26 dny

      No one is saying drug distribution is okay. And yeah, on prison labour - most inmates perform labour directly associated with the prison (cooling, cleaning, maintenance) But about 20% end up doing some form of coerced labour that makes private companies profit. If we're going to have Prisoners perform labour (and im really not sure we should because giving the american correctional system MORE incentives to put people behind bars would only make the problem worse) BUT, if we're going to say we're cool with forced labour, it should be for the public good, NOT so that private corporations can replace people's jobs with slave labour and pocket the difference as profit.
